Running belly slap - garment advice?

I know this isn't the most glamorous topic...

I used to run 5ks twice a week in 2017, but hurt my hip so I stopped. I've since put quite a lot of weight on (about 3 stone, although I was never 'slim' to start with). I went for my first run for a long time this morning. Took my headphones out mid way through and all I heard was "Slap! Slap!". Realised it was coming from my belly slapping when I run! Oh my goodness, I was so embarrassed I could have died right there. I know that it will go away gradually once I start losing weight, but I really don't want this to put me off running! Has anyone out there had a similar experience and can recommend some garments that might constrict my belly a little to hopefully lessen the noise? Thanks so much for reading!

Also posting in Exercise for general advice. Smile

I am obese and I get this when I do Joe Wicks. I've no advice but wanted to say well done and you are an inspiration, keep it up!

Well done on the running! I wonder whether a maternity support band would help? I used a Belly Band long after I had my baby to help hold in my belly!

I get the same issue but I don't get noise just extreme pain as it pulls where I have pretty bad nerve damage. It's getting better. For running at the moment I wear my leg and body shapers (long shorts that hold the belly in) under my leggings. I'm going to be buying some tummy control running leggings which will do the same thing once I go down a size which I'm almost there with!

Thanks everyone!

@ipchill Sorry to hear you get pain. I will definitely look into shape wear and will probably invest in some decent proper leggings, rather than just the bog standard Primark ones.

Just a bit more backstory, the reason why I have an overhang is because I had an ovary removed from emergency surgery when I was a teen, so the skin hangs over the weakened muscle that was cut across. I will always have it (unless I pay 10k for a tummy tuck!), but it Looks SO much worse when I'm carrying this much extra weight. I guess it's exactly the same problem many of you have had with C-sections?

I have under armour compression wear and some Aldi compression tops which are just as good. I love compression tops for exercise as they hold my boobs still as well as keeping everything else in place. The added benefit of sweating more helps as well!

OP just wear high-waisted leghings. Look at the description and the pictures, they need to cover the belly button. They keep everything tucked in!

I have the same issue after a c-section and rapid weigh gain. I bought a tight belly band and not looked back. I will eventually not need it anymore but it works for now. I also have some high waist gym leggings (cheap ones from US Pro). They do hold everything in.

High waisted, compression leggings are what you need. I've just bought some lovely ones from Combat Dollies and you really feel the support

CMOTDibbler Looks interesting but how on earth do you work the sizes out? Well I know I won't be small but will I be XL XXL or what?

You can buy tubigrip for stomach and hip area, I was given it for sod, would really help you!

@Deathraystare the size guide is one of the product photos. 12 is a large and it goes up a dress size at a time. I'd normally moan about 12 being a large, but as they go from 6-24 I'll give them a pass on it
