It's sad how many people on the thread think that they are unattractive. I don't want to feel fat and frumpy and my family have made me feel even worse.

THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE!

How can we feel good about ourselves? If you have any tips, absolutely anything that has made you feel better about yourself, then please share here!

Good underwear
perfume
well cut hair
enough makeup to look awake and feel confident (even if only mascara and a lipstick)

The French say that a good sex life shows on a womans face................

Agree with ggg:

well applied make up (doesnt have to be lot or expensive)
perfume
nice undies
exercise (this is a biggy for me)
botox (and if you cant afford it give up smoking and have this instead )
smile more

never wear nightwear with cartoon characters on.

never wear mens clothes.

Right - I definitely need some new underwear.

I always wear perfume and hair was cut on Saturday (but currently scraped back in a ponytail )

The only makeup to tough my face on a daily basis is concealer and powder - so will up the anti!

I agree with GGG's comment about the sex life (I just don't have one at the moment ). When I was recently married (almost ten years ago) a colleague at work said he could always tell when I'd had sex as I had a glint in my eye.

plus the more confident you feel the better you look (and feel).
You know sometimes when you go out and you feel a million dollars and everyone looks at you, then times you go out feeling like shite and you become almost invisible.

If we could all at least feel a million dollars every day it would boost our confidence

I would agree strongly with the good underwear point. I have recently been to the big R&P for a bra and i'm amazed at the difference it's made to my figure under clothes, i've lost at least a stone
As the lady fitting me said,'you could build a beautiful million pound mansion, but if the foundations are out then it just won't look right'!

I also make a point of always moisturising after my shower usually with johnsons holiday skin so i get a bit of colour, [helps to disguise the stretchmarks on my stomach].

In the morning a bit of lipgloss, mascara and blusher to brighten up my face. Try getting outside more and drinking a bit more water. LilRed what on earth have your family said to you?

The eyes are the windows of the soul, so here are two eye-related tips.
Have your eyebrows shaped regularly by a professional.
If you wear glasses, invest in smart ones that really suit you, and make sure the lenses are always clean and sparkling.

ooooh yes i got my eyebrows threaded and they look much better than when i tried plucking them myself.

We had sex on saturday.
Then I went to a khai Bo exercise class, followed by joining dh and ds swimming.
I had my hair cut and my eyelashes dyed.
I got fitted for a new bra last week.
We all went to a bbq on sat pm.
I feel great.

I have done nearly all of the suggestions so far.
The eyelashes dyed was a treat. That always makes me feel so good.
You MUST treat yourself.

Smile, mosschops??? Have you seen what that does to the creases at the side of the mouth? Not to mention the lines round the eyes?

I'm with Cher - immobile face lasts longer.

Get a Maybelline 16 hour lipstick in a shade that suits you, and you never have to renew it, so for five seconds work in the morning you look smarter all day. Get your eyebrows waxed/plucked. Beauty Flash Balm. A brisk walk. A good bra. Necklaces. Spend an afternoon with your wardrobe and a big mirror and work out which outfits really suit you so you know in the morning. Put it out the night before. Never wear sports gear unless you are actually goign to the gym. Smile!

(PS I do not think I am attractive, but I do beleive in making the most of what you have)

I like the idea of maybelline 16 hour lipstick. I will get one. Isn't a shame that semi permanent makeup doesn't extend to eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick. I wonder whether that is on the cards for soon ?

Good well fitted bra = good posture, smile and yoga. Makes you feel serenely confident. And for some reason a small sweep of blusher in a delicate shade really makes a difference.

I reckon it's how you carry it that counts

You can have messy hair, unplucked eyebrows, and scruffy clothes but if you flash a friendly smile, hold your head up like you own the world, and 'strut your stuff' then you will feel attractive and make people believe you are attractive too.

Everyone is beautiful in some way. Just walk around like you know you are and you'll feel great! Maybe I'm deluded but I'm certainly happy with how I look.

I know it's easier said that done but give it a try one day and I bet you'll feel different and people will look at you with more interest.

Oh and beyond my control but, I find that the fact that dh still wants to 'bump uglies' with me on a regular basis, makes me feel v. attractive.

Yes a good bra

Basic make-up does wonders for my confidence (especially as I get spots...) - 2 mins for concealer, a bit of eyeshadow, a bit of blusher, and lip gloss.

Also even if I don't have time for make-up, and am wearing the scruffiest clothes ever, every day I put on a necklace and my favourite ring. It makes me feel that I haven't completely let go of making an effort and there is something about my appearance that's pretty and a self-expression. I probably still look like a scruff to everyone else, but I feel better inside which is what it's all about.

1crazymumof2 - Here's my post from the other thread about my dear family:

"Nope and it was confirmed at a family party last night by aunt saying, 'You're such a big girl now, you used to be so slender' and my brother saying, 'Have you got another one in there? If not, you need to get to the gym'. Ended up in tears in the ladies

I'm 5' 7" and just under 11 stone. The rest of my family are super-waifs.

NappyAddict - so you went for the threading, how did you find it? You're obviously happy with the result but was it very painful?

Report
Bluestocking · 17/09/2007 11:50

Threading is fine, doesn't hurt any more than plucking, and is a lot quicker.
