Will beauty salons open soon?

Does anyone think they will be able to? There are a few salons near me and everyone keeps saying they can’t wait for them to reopen ASAP... but I disagree! You don’t get much closer contact and it’s non essential business. Plus people will be using this time to learn to DIY like eyebrow tints and nails. I can see them being slow for business whenever they can reopen!

I rather doubt that the hard working souls who run these businesses, who rely on their income to survive feel the same way.

If you are nervous about returning to work stay at home but don’t use this as a justification to send us all to penury.

Some people might DIY but not everyone, I think people will be rushing back to salons, especially those that weren’t financially impacted by lockdown. My (hair) salon has a priority list, I signed up straight away.

I have literally spent hundreds if not thousands on my hair in the past few years, I’m not going to undo my stylist’s hard work by using a box dye. I’m patiently waiting for them to reopen although my hair doesn’t look great.

I think they'll be one of the last places to reopen however when they do they'll be inundated with customers. All the salons in my area have priority lists for customers who have already missed appointments and they're busy already.

I've just dyed my hair and sorted my eyebrows, both look fine but they're nowhere near as good as when I get a professional to do them.
As much as some people will attempt DIY treatments a lot won't. Sometimes there's just no comparison to salon treatments.

I agree about hair salons being inundated but wasn’t sure about beauty salons so much.

I seen a headline yesterday about them possibly being closed for 6 months, not sure if there is any truth in that, didn’t read the article. I work in the salon industry (office side) and as far as I’m aware some of the manufacturers think they will open in May but I’m not sure where they have got that information

I'm liking the idea of a priority list ... maybe when salons reopen they should operate a sort of triage. Quick fix, major surgery or beyond all help.

They are opening here (Norway) this week. I have an appointment for my eyebrows and lash-tint on Thursday. Can't wait tbh.

@ErrolTheDragon that’s hilarious... I’m definitely in the latter category!

Hair I can wait for as it's ok atm but having nobody to do my nails is a pain. I have them done every two weeks and they are growing out terribly! Botox is overdue too. First world problems I know but it's a pain having spent so much to keep it up and then nothing!

I actually think they’re a business that would open sooner rather than later. I think it’s probably easier to manage certain rules and regs in a beauty salon than many other places (say gyms, pubs, restaurants etc). A lot of the salons only have one or two seats or separate rooms, so can keep distance between customers. They can say no walk-ins, only come at the exact time of your appointment, wait until the person before has left, queue outside to limit the numbers in at any one time. Wash hands and wear a mask, technicians can sterilise surfaces etc in between clients. I know there are many bigger salons but I think for small scale beauty salons and hairdressers etc it’s doable to open them and still manage risks. I hope so. Many of them are small independent businesses.

My hairdresser (Aveda salon) sent out an email at the weekend saying how they plan to reconfigure the salon to put 2m gaps between clients. I hope they open soon. There were articles in several papers saying salons would be amongst the first to open, and that seems to be the case in other countries.

I've never needed to see my leg waxer more. And i'll be first in line when she re opens her salon!

Although apart from that I am enjoying the low maintenance look.

I agree with Swiftier, my beauty therapist uses a room in her house and it is all appointment based so it should be easier to minimise risks than in a larger salon. She has put a video tutorial up of how to keep on top of your brows. I guess the longer this goes on the better I will get at it but I am definitely going back to her as soon as I can!

I can't wait for them to reopen and will be going as soon as I'm able to. I go to a self employed lady who rents her space in a beauty salon. I go every two weeks for acrylic nails and eyebrow wax.
Before lockdown they were doing things like come alone, arrive at your appointment time so there was no waiting, hand washing as soon as you enter, extra cleaning between clients (though they always maintain good hygiene anyway), hair clients to enter through the main door, all clients for beauty services on the upper floors to enter via the side door, masks worn by all, gloves where possible.
I can't soar to go back. My last appointment was Thursday 5th March. I've had to start plucking my eyebrows (the joy, I'm sure I've probably ruined them, my lady always said leave the tweezers alone). My nails are all still on and in good condition considering they will be 8 weeks old this coming Thursday, hardly any lifting at all (length no problem for me as I always have them long anyway). Won't be removing them until I absolutely have to, and won't be doing them myself.
Don't have anything else done myself. My husband and son both need the barbers as well.

I suspect they can manage social distancing, more easily than most and if they aren’t able to re open then the staff will just start doing home visits.

Hope so. I miss my monthly facials.

And as someone that's been having Hollywood waxes for years and years, I am not enjoying being au naturel.
