My skin!

I’m in my early 40s and I’m only now appreciating what lovely skin I had as a teenager / in my 20s. I rarely had breakouts, usually blemish free and didn’t have to work for it.

But now... it’s like my skin has got my age the wrong way around. I’m getting spots on my jaw line and this week they’ve migrated to my neck. WTF is that about?

My body shape is changing too which I’m struggling with. I was always one of those annoying people who could eat what they wanted without thinking about it and took advantage of that. Well, not now. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and struggling with it. I am not friends with the mirror.

The weight I know what to do - I’m doing HIIT 3 times a week, trying to keep steps at 10,000 a day or more, running more regularly and thinking about what I’m eating.

I have no idea what to do with my skin though. Can anyone transform me back into the version of myself that I thought was fat and ugly 20 years ago? Because she wasn’t as bad as I thought...

Nope, 'fraid not. If a time machine existed, most of us would be on it! It sounds like your hormones are starting to play up. Spots on chin and jawline is usually hormone related. No easy solution unfortunately. Prescription strength skincare is typically the best thing, versus over the shelf. Try Dermatica for a low cost way of accessing a dermatologist.

I’m on the combined pill, I was hoping that would maintain hormones at a relatively normal level... unless it’s not oestrogen or progesterone that causes spots.

Is your skin oilier would you say?. My cystic acne didn’t start till I was 40.

You can ask your surgery for a telephone appt if they aren’t doing face to face.

You won’t be the first woman this has happened to.

Definite oilier than it was, yes. Used to have typical combination skin - very slightly oily t-zone but that’s all. By the end of the day now make up is literally sliding off my face.

I’ve ordered some Nip & Fab goodies.
