Trying to reboot my 'natural' look, what are your desert-island makeup products?

Going to have a clear out of my makeup, what I've realised in my early 40s is that the cheaper stuff (mostly) isn't doing it for me now, neither is a full face of makeup.

I know so many women who look gorgeous with NO makeup, but unfortunately I'm just not one of them... so I guess now I'm going to try and fake the natural look.

If you could only have FIVE products for your makeup for a long time, but there is absolutely no expense limit on those five items, which would you choose?

Bonus product is you can take one amazing skin booster (serum or whatever) at similarly no budget. Ie a sisley mask or whatever.

I have hundreds of pounds of perfectly all right colours that are all essentially the same thing (maybelline/bourjois/rimmel), I went to selfridges just before christmas to have a good nosey at interesting high-end things, but was terrified of the hordes of assistants (extra Christmas ones) who were so over-helpful they scared me away.

The two I think I know are 1) hourglass ambient in dim light and 2) tarte man-eater mascara.

Everything else open to suggestion.

Oops 6, but what the heck

Wow, really, do you think the boots hydroluminous is so good it would be your forever holy grail? Interesting.

And do you think the sisley black rose mask is amazing because my hand has hovered over that before (maybe with the money I'll save on the boots foundation!)

The hydraluminous foundation works really well on my skin, good cover, dewy, very natural looking. It is the best foundation I have ever used, and I've tried many.
The Black Rose mask is a guaranteed pick me up for my skin before a night out (remember them). Takes years off (temporarily).

Would depend on whether it’s a natural or full look?

Hourglass foundation stick
Nars concealer
Nars blush
Benefit gimme brow
Huda beauty liquid lipstick

Kiehl’s skincare, can’t choose just 1 product

NARS orgasm multiple stick (idiot proof and makes me look alive when nothing else will)
Hourglass Powders - they’re just so fab. I have the Unlocked Palette and the Ambient Light Palette released just before Christmas and they are AMAZING! (Unlocked has the edge, tbh - can get a whole look from it. Could use for traveling and just bring lips.)
Laneige lip sleeping mask in grapefruit - will never go without

Mac paint pot (painterly) for eyes
Chantecaille faux cilantro mascara
It cosmetics cc cream
NARS orgasm blush
Pillow talk lipstick

I also LOVE the black rose mask, I use it like night cream and don't wash it off. I got some samples off eBay to try out as I can't justify the £££ on mat leave 😀

Max factor mascara
Clinique even better foundation
Bobbi Brown blusher
Nars creamy concealer
Bare minerals powder
This list is too long, but one would not survive without eyeliner or eyeshadow.
I have always used clinique, but recently purchased the Urban decay eye palette.
I work 12 hour shifts, so it is a good test to see how well some make up lasts. Clinique seems to still be longer lasting?
Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner is pretty decent though.

To be a better version of myself, but still look fairly natural then I'd take:

Ren satin perfection bb cream
Bobbi Brown brightening brick
L'Oréal paradise extatic mascara
Eyebrow powder
Tinted rose vaseline
The Ordinary 'b' oil

This is brilliant, so many things to investigate.

It’s a nicely groomed, natural look I’m after, but preferably one where if you add just a bit more you could joosh it up for evening.

Just bought the la neige lip mask

Armani luminous silk has been on my wish list (approched the selfridges stand to just have a wee look but the Christmas sales staff were so pushy I backed off, I know they’re told to be very attentive, but surely it’s counterproductive? Or is this just me?)

Any, @MoltoAgitatodo you think the Armani foundation is worth the price tag? It takes me about two years to finish a foundation so the price tag is okay if it’s worth it.

@Wetcarparkrain I think so. It also takes me ages to finish foundation, and to be fair I’ve not been wearing a huge amount of makeup under lock down - I only bought Luminous Silk the week before as I’d finally used up my Double Wear Light. I would just have replaced the DW online but they’d changed the formula and colour descriptions so I had to in to a shop to mooch.

I would totally buy cheaper foundation if I could fanny about trying it on like the counters let you do - I have a horror of getting the shade wrong and looking like a tangerine, hence I like going to counters to try stuff on, get samples, then go for a wander outside to see what it looks like. The Luminous Silk is very buildable - I do need a bit more than the DW for the same finish. I put it on with disposable makeup sponges - I never get on with foundation brushes and I can bin a sponge after a few days’ use, so no grubby brushes or sponges on my face.

My acid test is when we’re back at work - I have a short, 15 min cycle ride to work and any foundation that survives that is a winner.

Nars Deep Throat is better for me, like Orgasm without the glitter. That isn't my favourite blush though, it's Tilbury in Love Glow.

I have a lot of Hourglass but don't reach for it as much as I did. I prefer Beauty Pie, One Wonder powder. I am not sure if that is the correct title and cannot be bothered to check.

Mascara - No 7 Stay Perfect

Maybelline Eraser concealer.

Becca Back lit Primer

Still looking for the HG lip. Sneaking this in - Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. Game changer. Comes in a travel size if you don't want to splurge on the full size. Close second is the far cheaper ELF one in the black bottle.

Double wear foundation but not worn like as a mask, just blending under eyes and round the nose area for circles and redness blending.

Maybelline lash sensational mascara (curl lashes first with Shu uemura curler)

Bobbi brown medium bronzer (so subtle and stays on ages)

Now I have eyeliner tattooed on I don't use it but if I didn't I would wear a liquid cat liner style using Rimmel waterproof liquid liner.

Finally a very dark brown eyeshadow to fill in brow gaps using one from Primark ATM surprisingly works a dream.
