Which trainers are 'cool'. Please help me. I'm clueless.

ds1 really really wants cool trainers.

Unfortunatly, he can't tell me WHICH are the 'right' ones, due to his level of communication and understanding. He just knows nike and adidas, but there's loads of different types even within those 2 brands. He really wants to be like the other boys, but I don't know which are the 'in' shoes.

I have the chance to buy some nike total 90 iii tf (which look no bloody different than the ones you can get for a fiver down the market, except for a ruddy tick on the side, which I could do with a damn permanent marker ffs....but I digress.

He is different in so many ways, and this is so important to him that I don't want to mess up. (Even though I object to Labels and am doing this through gritted teeth, lol)

Shop assistants would just try to sell me the most expensive, or one they got a better deal from or something.

What shoe is the hot one in the playground for the average 8 year old?

right hang on - ds1 is 7 and very cool hmm ( I blame his dad) will have a look at which trainers he has currently.

hang fire!

Have you tried entering a chatroom and asking?

Or if you've time to wait I could text DD (3rd year fashion student) and ask her.

mytwopenceworth Fri 14-Sep-07 13:25:20

yes, I'll wait for you both to check!! grin

themoon66 Fri 14-Sep-07 13:25:25

Or I could ask DS (age 15) when he gets in from school.

MamaG Fri 14-Sep-07 13:25:34

could you hover in the playhground and see what his friends are wearing?

mytwopenceworth Fri 14-Sep-07 13:26:37

I can't believe I'm doing this, tbh. It offends me in 7 different ways.

Things we do for our kids eh? Total abandonment of my principles. blush

harleyd Fri 14-Sep-07 13:27:59

kswiss

mytwopenceworth Fri 14-Sep-07 13:28:56

Yeah, it's ebay, so it'll wait (or come round again!). I'd rather get it right.

The other day he asked "Is X (meaning himself) poor?"

shock

angry

That could only have come from school.

It's hard to question him without leading him iyswim, but he did say 'trainers and shoes'

He was so sad and anxious.

So ..... here I am. Doing this.

themoon66 Fri 14-Sep-07 13:31:00

Aw ... I'd do the same.

MamaG Fri 14-Sep-07 13:32:05

Aw MTPW you're a good mum

mytwopenceworth Fri 14-Sep-07 13:33:14

I did mamag - they all looked the same to me...grotty once-white bits of tat! blush

mytwopenceworth Fri 14-Sep-07 13:34:19

I'm a mug! wink

I think it's horrible that kids feel such pressure to have a certain brand.

MamaG Fri 14-Sep-07 13:34:53

I'm not convinced my 8 year old DD would have a CLUE what was cool in trainerworld!

themoon66 Fri 14-Sep-07 13:35:36

Right... DD has texted back.... here is her reply.

Wel it depends on how old he is...And wot his style is like. But K swiss ones are cool. x

harleyd Fri 14-Sep-07 13:36:11

see grin

MamaG Fri 14-Sep-07 13:36:47

HMM I have to say for a 7 / 8 year old, what we would consider cool is rather different to what his peers would.

They would usually approve of the most garish clompy ones!

Link to eh ebay ones mtpw

themoon66 Fri 14-Sep-07 13:38:09

Go to the top of the class HarleyD

ds has either still got, or has previously had the following

adidas stan smith

( Think that you can get these for around £25-30)

these ones
k swiss

again- i have seen these in shops for between £25 and £30)

these type
[[http://www.jdsports.co.uk/product.aspx?id=16697 nike]

and these- which I think are awful looking but apparently Nike Air Max 95 are very cool?

[http://www.jdsports.co.uk/product.aspx?id=17934 nike air max]

but he has just had these for his birthday which are not known as conventional sport trainers so maybe these are 'cool' as well?

etnies camo

apparently they are more 'skater wear' - he saw his uncle in a pair and thought they were cool so uncle brought him some for birthday.

but i think you cant go wrong with nike or adidas and can get some good bargains at JD sports or JJB sports. you can get a cool pair for around £20

tiredemma Fri 14-Sep-07 13:42:01

nike
sorry

and
nike air max ) the awful looking ones

mytwopenceworth Fri 14-Sep-07 13:48:58

these

or these

and I've never heard of k-swiss, but I'll go and have a look.

tiredemma Fri 14-Sep-07 13:52:37

the top ones are 'better' than the bottom ones.

what size is he?

tiredemma Fri 14-Sep-07 13:54:34

these

are nice/cool
