Lockdown highlighted hair rescue

My heavily highlighted hair is starting to show the darker roots, about 2cm of growth there if I pull it flat. Though I'm dark blonde naturally the contrast is making my roots seem even darker.
Is there a box dye or something I could wash in to tone it all down? I'm wary of dabbling with root touch up as I've heard blonde is so hard to do. So thought maybe go darker instead?
Any good ideas, or shall I just wait it out?

From FaceTiming with friends a few of us have this issue.
I'd like to be able to embrace the balayage.
Sadly I don't think that's the look I'd get.

I have this. I feel like I need a glossy very dark blonde toner or semi permanent colour to blend it together.
Doesn't help that my highlights are now sun bleached..

Me too CarlyWurly
I'm trying to keep it out of the sun as it's only making it worse

I've been reading we need something with more of a red base, or it will go green.
I really need help with this

I did more highlights with a Wella kit over mine to hide the root growth. I'm planning on doing a toner with L'Oreal Dialights to try and blend further!

Batiste dry hair shampoo is said to be a good saviour for fairer hair showing roots.

In case it helps anyone I have used a Clairol nice n easy box for the first time (recommended by my hairdresser) to take the colour down nearer to my dark blonde natural colour.
It looks LOVELY, I'm so pleased. Still blonde but no awful roots. It hasn't gone green or orange, just shiny and natural.

Ooh well done! Which colour did you use and do you still have highlights or has it all gone one colour?

This is my dilemma too .Have a box of Exellance dark blonde here.Dare I use it to blend dark roots in?

I just did the all over colour and went for it.
Much darker blonde but it has lots of depth, isn't a block of colour, and (maybe because of the many highlights it was going over) has some glints of lighter blonde in there too. It's super shiny. I'm expecting it to get lighter as I wash it more, but will just use it again in 6-8 weeks.
I got the nice n easy 7CB (champagne blonde) as recommended by my great hairdresser.

I really need help with my hair, my highlights needed sorting in about february but i had to cancel my appointment, thenthe rescheduled was obviously cancelled.

I honestly have about 2 inches of regrowth now. Im too scared to box dye it but it honestly looks awful. Are your highlights bleached? Can you sjow us a picture?

I would second the clariol nice and easy! I have dark blonde/light brown hair with blonde highlights and exactly the same issue OP. I used dark ash blonde and had results I'm really pleased with

Here is an 'after' taken inside. It has more highlights in natural light outside.
The lighting here makes the roots look a little darker than they are in real life - the shadow makes them look slightly darker than they are.
I'm expecting it to lighten up as I wash it over the next few weeks.

Just delighted it didn't go green!

Bleach London - smokey shampoo on the roots for 5 mins blends in like a root smudge. You need to comb it down a little bit to blend..... well This is what I do Smile

Do you have a before pic, OP? Interested in the colour change.

Report
Sparkesy · 24/04/2020 19:59

This was a before pic taken in the shade and before the sun had lightened it even further.
The roots had grown a bit more and seemed so dark in contrast so I wanted to take it right down. I'm pleased I went for it, it may save me some money in the future too, can't believe it was just £6 Grin

@Caramelblonde did you use the lOreal dark blonde? And if so, how did it go? I have bought the same but wondering now whether to use that or try the Clairol that Sparkesy used.
