It looks bloody awful on Anna, it'll need cutting every 6 weeks at least. I'd say it's a no

Guarantee their hair is full of either clip in or taped in extensions. They’ll have professional hair stylists on hand day to day to get that volume. Have blow drys weekly and head and shoulders will never have touched their scalps. Hair up with a fringe is just as hard to manage as down. If you have an active job, that fringe is going to be stuck to your forehead by the end of the day (certainly that’s what happened to me when I had this hair style, I kept the bob and got rid of the fringe!)

I think I know this, and is a pipe dream! Tdl that's the main prob with current style, fringe looks horrific either sticking up or scraped back and looking balding as day progresses, absolutely know this is not a massive issue at the moment, but trying to distract myself from the chaos that is my current day to day!

I don’t think Anna’s bob would be possible if you have thin hair.

I also have thin hair (colour damaged/broken off, not falling out) and when I got it cut about 4 inches into a long bob it was so much more full, much thicker and slightly resembled the thickness of your other model’s photo. However I did get all of my damaged ends off cut off in the process, so it’s a bit different from having naturally fine hair/hair loss because the rest of my hair was normal/healthy in comparison to my dead ends.

I think if you have fine hair, avoid the fringe as it requires lots of upkeep and you might not be able to achieve a super full one.

I have fine hair and it's in a bob, and it does look better and thicker/fuller, but do not have a fringe and make sure your hairdresser is good a cutting a blunt bob, most will put layers in which enhance the thinness but a really good blunt cut will make it look slightly thicker.

Do you think Anna wears a wig? I certainly do. A lot of the celebs whose hair you admire wear extensions and clips-ins at least and often (very good) wigs. I have very thin hair on top and wear a topper and always get compliments on my lovely hair. No one knows it is a topper unless I tell them. Are you willing to get some faux hair?

I have a classic bob with a fringe. I find it easy to look after, but only because I’m so used to it now. Have had a bob years and years.

I wash it every two days and have to blow dry and then straighten it, otherwise it’s all out of shape and frizzy. But once I’ve done that, it does always look nice. Unless it gets rained on, and it looks awful again.

I can just about put it in a pony tail but I never do as it looks awful on me.

I like my bob as it hides my big fat face and double chin nicely, and my fringe hides my wrinkles.Grin

I had a bob with a fringe for a while. Looked good and didn't need much work but I had an incredible hairdresser, and lots of hair that has enough body to hold shape very well. And yes, it was cut every 6 weeks but that's normal if you have any kind of hairstyle rather than 'long'.

Was watching Gogglebox and they showed a clip of the Kardashians. Kim had an amazing Bob. No fringe but it was really sleek and sharp. I don't think her hair is very thick.

I have a bob with fringe. The only thing I don't like is that it needs trimmed every 5 or 6 weeks to stay looking good. You should give it a try. I didn't love my bob until I got it cut into a short chin length bob. The longer bob was very boring on me.

I love Anna's trademark bob. However, she 70 now and her hair is looking better than ever. I can't believe it's that shiny and thick without extensions or a full wig.

I've heard that wigs are incredibly itchy and uncomfortable though. The fact she can carry it with elegance is an achievement in itself.

I have fine hair but lots of it and have a very short bob with a fringe - sort of Natalie Portman in Leon and I love it. It needs a very good hairdresser to cut it in and regular upkeep though. I was due a cut the Saturday after lockdown started and am now looking a bit unkempt!!!!

Also the owner of fine, thin hair and thanks to lockdown I’m growing out a very short, layered graduated bob. I’ve done lots of Pinterest checks and general googling and the consensus appears to be a blunt cut bob helps give the appearance of thicker hair. I’m not sure how or if that will work but I’m going to give it a go. I’m going to grow my fringe out too though.

I’m pretty sure I read Anna Wintour wears a wig.

@Dogwithanovenmit my hairdresser always says that blunt cuts give the illusion of thicker hair and it really, really does with mine.

Dogwithanovenmit · 17/04/2020 19:25

YouStupidBoy that’s good to know. And glad it’s worked with your hair. When you say you have a very short bob how short are we talking? At the moment my layered, graduated bob is about an inch past jaw length at the front but the back is way shorter because of the graduated cut. I’ve got a way to go there to grow it down to the same length as the front. Luckily lockdown means I can’t weaken and make an appointment for a trim .

@Aderyn19 saw that episode of Gogglebox myself and thought exactly the same! Going to hairdresser with that request straight after lockdown has ended!

Dogwithanovenmit like the attached photo, really sharp and precision cut. Had it cut from past shoulder length about 5 - 6 weeks before lockdown. Hairdresser did a small undercut to make the back appear fuller and sit properly too and I really, really like it. I have never had so many compliments about my hair.

@forsucksfake could you give some more details on the toppers that you mentioned? I would like to try but don’t know where to start!

@ellequick I mean toppers like the ones featured here:

I had mine custom made to match my hair and it has lasted for 6 years now.

And that Kim K bob above is most definitely a wig.

I have a Louise Brooks bob, cut to just below my ears, with a slightly curved fringe. My hair is pretty thick, plus dark so always looks really shiny. It needs cut every five weeks to stay looking good, and I am very lucky to have a fantastic hairdresser. (I trimmed my fringe myself today - I do have proper scissors - and by following her lines I was able to do a pretty good job!)

YouStupidBoy. I really like that. I think in a few months the longest back layer might have grown down enough for this. Will try growing fringe out too while I’m at it.

Thanks! Great pointers and advice here! I'm definitely going to ask for the blunt cut, have no idea why but I always thought that would make it look thinner so looking forward to trying something new whenever this is all over!
