What to do with my greying hair ? :(

I have naturally very dark hair which has progressed to approx 50% white. Until lockdown I've been dyeing the roots every two weeks with quite light dye (7). I'm definitely enjoying not dyeing it but wondering what I should do when we are set free. I am considering getting highlights until my hair is much lighter and then topping up the t section roots with a light semi when the roots become too much. I really hate the white hair and want it to be disguised as much as possible.

Does this sound feasible?

My hair is naturally very soft, silky and shiny and it's been one of my better features until it went white 😭

Ps no I'm not going natural yet!
