How to look Expensive in a Pandemic

diamondsandrose · 21/03/2020 06:28

Trying desperately to distract/cheer myself up here..!

I started a "expensive" thread back in the day that ended up going for weeks, it was great ( Expensive in the summer IIRC)

Looks like we might be stuck home for a while then doesn't it?
To try and brighten the mood what about a lighthearted thread about how we plan to self isolate in a glamorous fashion?!
Maybe bit of princessing thrown in there..emerge beautified after the chaos subsides? Using up our beauty hoard? If we don't use stuff up now we never will!

I think a pasta and toilet roll creation would be particularly apt at the moment! Joking aside, we've talked about this at home and evening a week we are going to make an effort to dress up a little for dinner, just for a bit of fun really amidst all the craziness.Smile

I think you are right and it will be all too easy to descend into a scruff bag :)

I am going to keep blow drying my hair, wearing make-up and looking after my nails. It will be good for my moral too. :)

We could wear our wedding dresses like Miss Havisham.

I’m determined to not go to pot

Fortunately I don’t dye my hair or have gel nails etc. I’m really pleased I got a silk robe for Christmas

O. M.G Quillbill I love that idea!
DD is deep into the princess phase and if I appeared in my wedding DRESS one morning she would BURST!!
I'm going to do this for real.

We all have more time.

So I am learning with my daughter the art of hand and nail care. Just some moisturising and buffing. Clear polish on. Minimalist chic.

Less use of heated products as no social events. So my hair should be in better Knick

I said to my friends last night via our chat group we should all get dressed up to go out hair make up the lot and have a virtual night out!
There was a post about a couple who have got dressed up to the opera and listened to the opera!
I love wearing jogging pants and comfy clothes no make up and generally being a lazy arse but I think I might need to make sure I get dressed and made up at least one day at week!

Ooh thanks. I'm going to dig out my gel lamp and kit and have a go at DIY today. If I can stop coughing long enough. I got my toes and gave waxed the day before our isolation Bethan so that's a headstart at least.

I was doing 40 items of clothing for Lent BUT half of them were work clothes which are now completely inappropriate, might just have a big clear out of clothes today instead

Take care of your skin! My favourite thing to do! Pamper yourself. Use face masks and silky soft body lotions and scrubs and serums and vitamin c and and all sorts of goodness for ur skin. Ull be glowing by the end of it. Esp since you'll be out of the sun.
Plus. Put an effort into dressing decently while ur at home. Even if you're in Pjs, please don't wear mismatched pieces or wear the same thing for days. Change ur outfit max every two days and bring out all your fancy nightwear that you've been ignoring. Do ur hair. Wear perfume. Keep ur nails neat. Etc. good luck !Wink

I have nail polish applied by DD.

Getting my haircut today, as my hairdresser offered, and I want to support her business.

Trying out different looks on my top half to look decent on video calls.

Starting couch to 5k.

Getting plenty of sleep courtesy of 30 second commute.

Make up free days

Time for beauty treatments at home.

Neighbours are setting up a gym in their garage which we can use.

Switching to mostly veggie diet and cooking from scratch.

If I don't emerge after 12 weeks looking better, I give up!

Yes! LOVE that you lot are into this I thought I might get a row for being frivolous

Love the virtual night out idea. My DD introduced me to "House Party" yesterday..it's an app you get all your friends on , kind of like Group FaceTime. I plan to get as many people as I know on it. So we will need to look semi decent for that!

Anyway
I plan to walk 5 miles a day for as long as I can now that my gym has shut
Do fitness dvds/you tube
Makeup every day , maybe using up old products or re-trying tossed aside ones, throw away if no use
Do pamper sessions using up sheet masks, bath and body stuff etc

This is fab, can I join? I feel like I’ve aged about 10 years in the last few days... I work from home anyway and am a jeans and jumper queen, but I plan to still wear make up every day and not go completely to pot. Love the sound of the House Party app!

Report
ChippyMinton · 21/03/2020 08:12

I'm trying not to work in pyjamas, so jeans or (sorry) jeggings on bottom half. Plus slippers and sometimes a blanket!
My best top half look is a grey cashmere roll neck that disguise the fact I am going bra-less.

A great tip is to raise up your laptop (I use a massive hardback book) so you don't look down into the camera and get a double chin.

Chippy love your tips!

Yes try House Party. You can see who's "about" out of your friends and call each other. Then more can join in if they want. So better than just FaceTime. There's quizzes and games you can play as g as Indy each other. I imagine it would be hilarious after a few drinks!

Today I'm going to write a list of Expensive goals, possibly including godd asks such as wearing all my cashmere at once and spritzing jo malone everywhere , oh and maybe even ( gasp) LIGHTING some of my precious JM candle stash

Will report back later
Love you you all ( not MNetty but whatever)

I cancelled my shopping delivery slot that I had booked a couple of weeks ago. I’m hoping that somebody that needs it more (i.e vulnerable person, front line health care worker) was able to get it! Joining the long queue outside Tesco this morning at least gave me the opportunity to get dressed and do my hair!

You can join us over on the Shopping our wardrobes thread. We have all decided to do our best to dress well

So my plan is to wear bright clothes, post often on the aforementioned thread, & start couch to 5k (today was my first run)

I'm working from home with effect from Monday. I've never done it before (it's not ideal for my role). I find the better I'm dressed, the better I work so the plan is to get into a routine and dress normally. I will have to work normal hours and I do have a desk at home. I've even brought my work mug home and won't use it for anything else.

I Do realise it's a bit like "my baby won't have a dummy" and by the end of 12 weeks self-isolation I'll be wearing shorts and wellies.

Quite like the idea of growing my hair out of my last rubbish haircut and I don't dye it anyway. I do my own nails so will carry on with that. As well as mascara.

Perhaps we should have a working from home "what are you wearing today?" thread.
