Nails and Coronavirus

Hi

Don’t want this turning into huge Coronavirus debate as there’s a whole thread for that but we people still getting their nails done - mainly acrylic nails in current climate? I’m due an in full today but I’m apprehensive. Not only do the practitioners touch people all day but mainly because they’re known to harbour germs according to public health.

Are you carrying on or taking them off? I work in a grim place we’re infection if it hits will spread rapidly

I’d take them off for a bit if I’m honest. I’ve clipped my nails short and stopped wearing rings and watch to maximise effectiveness of hand washing.

I agree I’ve spoken to some friends who work in nhs who say they’re bannned for same reasons

I definitely wouldn't go near a hair or beauty salon at the moment. The lady that does my nails seems to have a permanent cold so I'll be doing them at home for the time being.

All my nails have gone brittle and snapped off. Probably due to all the extra washing and alcohol gel. I won't be doing anything to them for a while - they look awful.

I get my nails done (acrylics) and eyebrows waxed every fortnight. I won't stop going

Booked to have my gels taken off in a fortnight- won’t be having them done again until this is over.

If things escalate massively in the next 2 weeks, I’ll just do a bodge job of removing it myself.

I had my in fills done today, my nail place is making everyone wash there hands before they do anything and they are all wearing gloves and washing there hands between clients.

It’s not so much the hygiene in the shop it’s that fact you can’t kee them clean day to day

That’s why nurses etc banned I think orao I’ve heard

No healthcare professional would wear nails - they harbour germs and are impossible to clean properly. Bacteria thrive in the glue/gel

I know a couple of teens who work at McDonald’s and they aren’t allowed to have false nails for hygiene reasons and that’s in a pre-coronavirus world. False nails harbour germs as you can’t wash your hand properly.

I don't get my nails done anyway, and keep them fairly short but have switched to keeping them even shorter and making sure there are no hang nails etc, anything that might cause a small cut if it were caught, lots of hand cream to prevent cracking and so on. Seems a fairly easy way to improve hand hygiene at a time when it's so crucial- so why not, takes seconds!

You can't wash your hands properly with false nails or any length to your nails at all.

Look at step 8 - you can't do it effectively without supershort nails.

I was a nurse so always had my nails short and unpolished.I have always been an avid hand washer just out of our habit and maybe I am just lucky but I never get colds or flu.I got my nails done once for a special occasion and could not wait to get them off as trying to keep them clean was so difficult .It was like having ' underneath the couch' under my nails... everything gathered there .I have been thinking about this also seeing that so many have acrylic nails I cannot imagine that having them now is a good thing.

The thing that gives me pause on just not going for any of the things I typically have done is that my beautician is likely to lose her business which she only set up independently on a year ago if everyone cancels.

I can't see why people are obsessing with hand washing/sanitizing if they are then going to wear their nails long and painted. That's definitely a breeding ground for bacteria.

I am wondering about mobile phones too.Hard to really keep clean and always plonked on tables when eating.

I've got glasses cleaning wipes and spray which I've been using to clean my phone.

I wouldn't have them due to not being able to keep your hands clean, especially at the moment.
