Hi

I’ve seen Uniqlo recommended a few times as a good place for basics

Having never heard of it before I wondered if anyone had any specific recommendations?

I’ve had a look but not sure where to start

I'm a standard size UK12 with big boobs so there are some things I don't suit at Uniqlo - anything that is high necked and sack-like or is cut for someone tiny and Japanese! That being said I absolutely rely on uniqlo for knitwear in a million colours, linen shirts and shorts, the elastic waist trousers, and most things when they do an Ines de la fressange collection. I also really like their tops made from viscose, it is so soft and drapey and breathes beautifully. Their Heat tech base layers keep me warm all winter. I like their jeans but haven't bought any in a while because they have lasted very well!

Apart from the IDLF things, I tend to use uniqlo for the plain basics that I then pair with something more unique or fun accessories. So lots of plain solid stuff, once I find something that suits I buy the same thing in a few colours.

I love Uniqlo clothing, actually my entire family loves it too.

Teens wear a lot of their t-shirts; we own various puffer coats (v lightweight and v warm) and wool coats.

I'm a fan of their Heat Tech thermals, keeps me warm all winter. I have loads of their dresses (shirt style, sack style, midi style) and knitwear too.

I find it very random. If you get lucky, the quality can be excellent. If you're not so lucky, it's shite. I've found their merino knitwear to be pretty decent but I will never buy their cashmere again.

I do quite like the U range (Christophe Lemaire). The quality is more consistent, i.e. average to poor but the design can be interesting.

About 75% of my wardrobe is Uniqlo . It's replaced Gap for me. I can't be bothered shopping for clothes so I know I can just order from them and they'll, mostly, be fine.

I'm frustrated with their jeans selection atm though. Can't seem to find what I want there.

Great value, fab range of colour, very easy to put an outfit together from the separates, especially love their long sleeved v neck t shirts and loungewear bottoms. You can’t go wrong really.

Does anyone know if they still do the trousers with the elastic back, that look like normal trousers but actually have no button or zip? Sorry probably a rubbish description...

It is so much better than Gap.

They will be getting in their spring/summer stuff soon so I will be packing away my heat-tec stuff and buying their slash neck t shirts, shorts and cropped trousers. I’m a 16 so buy XL. Really great stuff. The only dilemma is settling on the colour so it’s best to buy every variety

Definitely better than Gap for basics and some on trend pieces. The quality is good and delivery fairly quick usually.

I bought 3 nice plain crew neck jumpers from there 2 weeks ago - black, off white and tan. They're lovely and warm, but not chunky as I'm too busty to wear chunky jumpers!

Their sizing is generous, was very pleasantly surprised to fit into a size S.

Only issue is that the jumpers are far too itchy and I have to wear long sleeve t shirts under them. I am dyspraxic with sensitive skin though, so they're probably not itchy for most people!

Jumpers are just what I wanted for work - they tuck nicely under a cord skirt, and they're warm in my cold office.

Uniqlo are brilliant for quality basics. I don’t like their themed or ‘designer’ stuff at all, but my wardrobe is very simple/elegant.

Heat-tech tops and fleece-lined jeggings in winter

Elasticated waist, wide-leg thin cotton trousers, cotton t-shirts and thin cotton jumpers in summer/on holiday

The merino knitwear (women's and men's) is great and the EZ ankle pants which wear like iron and look like nice twill but are made of some magic fabric that can just be bunged in the washing machine. I've got some old cigarette jeans which are great - don't know if they still do that style though.

I just bought a really nice pair of wide leg trousers and a blazer from the Ines De La Fressange collaboration. Also some really nice polka dot pyjamas.

Some of their stuff is deeply weird but I like a lot of it and for the price it's really well made. Like PP, it's replaced Gap in my wardrobe.

I am trying hard to forgive them for discontinuing their long sleeve Supima Henley T shirts. I have about 10, and they are wearing out.

Down jackets, heat tech tops in many shapes and colours, warm leggings, cotton summer dresses, merino knitwear, ankle length trousers.

They have good office wear, for those that need that kind of thing.

I also like the Uniqlo U although this season the colours are all wrong for me.

IME the sizes on the website are pretty UK standard ish. Some of their styles are over sized ATM so you need to allow for that.

I’m a UK 10 and I wear S in dresses, underwear and PJs, XS or S in puffer coats, S or M in trousers depending on the cut. I usually buy M in tee shirt and knitwear as I’m curvy and don’t like them tight.

I only buy online as there’s no store near me, so I accept that I will often have to order several styles/ sizes.

Glad it's not just me. The website is a PITA.
Quality is excellent for the price.
The clothes last really well.

One thing I like on the website is that it has a thing for recommending your size.

Just got some EZ ankle length trousers. I’m a convert - they look and feel great! I’m big hipped and quite tall so trousers can be tricky for me, but they are a great cut and flattering.

All my jeans are Uniqlo right now, I’m tall and they are the only ones that actually reach my feet rather than cutting off 2 inches above my ankles!

I also have loads of their merino wool jumpers (for £25 they are amazing quality and wash really well) and thermals.

Another vote for the merino wool knitwear. Great quality, wash well and looks more spendy than they are.

I live in their heat tech thermals... the leggings are amazing under jeans and the tops are very comfy .. perfect under layers for dog walking.

My whole household wears uniqlo underlayers, pants, socks, tops !
