Winter footwear quandry. Not boots?!

I have skirts now. Previously very trouser-focussed.
Is there any alternative to wearing boots with skirts in autumn/winter?

Other than looking daft - obviously.

this winter is all about shoes with buckles, apparently
this kind of look - the opaque tights are key.

oooh buckle-y shoes!
Must there be heels involved or could I get away with flatter footwear (have toddler and 2 dogs to feel/look daft in high heels unless at work).

flatter, yes, but not absolutely flat unless you have coltishly slim calves and ankles (in which case rejoice, wear ballet flats and trouble me no more wink)

A block heel thus or a wedge thus should be comfy but still flattering.

They are lovely and I have some wedges like that, but why do I always feel frumpy when I wear shoes with my skirts. Is it because I am short and so my skirts are often that bit too long? I can't work it out.

bet the skirts are too long - I am 5'8" and anything more than 2" below the knee makes me look like my mum...

get hemming

That's exactly it, my mum or a girl guide leader trying to be fashionable. Best get the wonderweb out, have loads of skirts I just never wear.
