How and when to wear wellies?

I have never worn wellies, even as a child. I've always lived an urban life until recently now that I've started running and walking a lot more. I wore wellies for the first time today to walk through a forest and found it enchanting- I could go through mud without worry! This is a huge novelty!

I am keen to keep walking through new green places and now need to know (because I don't have family or friends who I can ask):
When do you personally wear wellies?
When do you definitely not wear wellies?
What do you wear with wellies? (Jeans, leggings, outfit ideas)

I wear wellies as much as possible. All through winter on dog walks. Will quite happily wear with a dress as well as jeans.

I also ride so then wear my riding boots.

I love wellies. Current ones are Aigle

I wear them whenever I walk the dog, either in the woods or on the beach. With skinnies or with dresses, though the latter less so as I can get caught in branches or brambles. I am generally quite clumsy.

I wear my Hunters to walk the dog in muddy fields and along the canal path. Also when on the beach if on hols in somewhere like Cornwall. I wear them with skinny jeans and sometimes my gym leggings if I've come straight home from a class and need to take the dog out.

I wear my wellies for all dog walks in winter mainly with skinny jeans in place of winter boots but also sometimes with my work dresses etc if rushed !! I love wellies !!

I wear them when it's raining or when going somewhere muddy. Usually with skinny jeans. I wouldn't worry about overthinking it, although they now come in an array of patterns and colours they are still a very practical item, so just wear them when you need to.

I wore them for 6 days at Glastonbury 1 year. My feet ached and were SO sore after that!

I have a normal pair, and a shorter ankle length pair. I wear the longer ones when its muggy, like on a boggy walk in a park, walking dog etc. The shorter pair I've use to walk to-from work (urban area along streets when its raining heavily) and change to work shoes/heels/flats once inside.

I have fur lined wellies from Decathlon which fit my skinny legs, they are so warm and cosy. I wear them for serious wet and mud, in the garden or in fields, as I live in the country.

I wear them with outdoor trousers ( warm and / or waterproof depending on the season ).

I never wear them hill walking . I wear walking boots, as they have more support for the feet and ankles for long distances and over rough ground.

I avoid wearing them to drive as I feel I have less control of the pedals due to the thick and slightly rigid soles.

Like everyone else I wear them when it’s wet and muddy, with whatever else in wearing. I did wear them with a tutu at Shambala though.

I had a pair of hunter wellies a few years back and wore them to death. Winter walks and walks to and from work usually from October through until March April. Then changed to shoes once in the office.

I then bought a pair of Dubarry boots. I also ride so wear them in the winter instead of my johdpur boots. Much more stylish than wellies.

I wear my wellies to wade through a muddy field and style is irrelevant to me when I do that. I have Ariat neoprene lined wellies. I live in Scotland so neoprene lining is a must in winter to keep my feet warm. Ariat wellies have a shaped footbed with arch support - walking in 'normal' wellies is bad for your feet.

I wear mine when I go to the city farm. Cant say I look particularly stylish but they keep the mud off Grin

I wear them walking the dogs in the park or beach.
I was in a snowy location over Christmas and lived in them (they are actually not wellies but mid calf waterproof red rubber boots). My son cringed as they stood out but I got compliments every where I went - as I had to trample thru snow I wore them to the mall etc.
But in the absence of snow, I would only wear them when walking outside - if I was going into a shop I wouldn't be wearing them.

I need to move my wellies from beside the outside doors.
I wear them every day, from 6am when I’m shivering in the garden with the puppy (worn with dressing gown, and accessorised with an umbrella); at work, with moleskins or skinny cords in winter, jeans or leggings in spring & autumn, and shorts in summer; to the shops with cords or jeans or leggings, to the pub, cords, jeans, occasionally with an a-line dress or mini skirt if it’s warm. To the beach, out with the dogs, round to my friends...
I have no problem driving in them, but I’m in and out of the trucks/tractors all day for work. If I’m going out in my car for a non-welly occasion, I wear wellies to drive in. DH has suggested cleaning excavating the footwell instead, but it’s quite a job, and my good boots have suede heels, so...
I have a pair of Aigles, but 3 pairs of le Chameau - I think my feet have moulded to their pattern now, so I don’t think I’ll be replacing the aigles. The ones I’ve worn through are now my ventilated summer wellies.

I wear Hunter wellies with socks that go above them, with either skinny jeans or more usually, black leggings. I wear them with a raincoat (Isle Jacobsen) or a hooded puffa coat. I wear in walks and on the school run when it rains - all winter, as I live in Dublin!!

I've got two pairs, long ones for muddy walks, usually worn with leggings/skinny jeans, and a short pair of Barbour biker ones that I refer to as my 'city wellies' that I wear whenever it's raining a lot and for the school run etc. I wouldn't recommend the Barbour ones, they look nice but have been a really disappointment. Very slippy!

Only at muddy festival type places where I have to walk through grass. I find them much too cold for everyday use. A normal wet, windy day and I'd wear normal knee length boots.

I wear them to work if I know it's going to be horrendously wet all day (I have spare proper shoes under my desk). I have a 2 mile walk either side of the bus journey so there's plenty of puddles to spash in avoid and I tend to wear them with skirts and tights because tights are easier to dry at work when I'm soaked. My wellies are stripy Regatta ones. Cheap and cheerful.

I have some heavier duty boots for snow with better grip, well water-proofed before winter.

If its really cold, I use to wear 2 pairs of very thick socks. I have since bought a welly inner-sock which goes the full length of the welly and just like a warm, toasty liner.

I have a pair of Joules wellibobs which I love! I wear them with skinny jeans and walking socks when it’s raining and I have to go out. They’ve got a fluffy insole too. I think they look a bit more casual than a proper full lefty welly.

How and when to wear wellies?

I never wear them, they aren't breathable so I get sweaty feet and they make my feet ache if I wear them to walk any distance. In fairness I've never tried posh ones like Hunter wellies or anything.

I live in mine!
Got some lurid coloured hunters in the sales years ago to go camping and had a hot dry summer, so they were ignored til I got my puppy...
now they are on my feet every day with a pair of long welly socks. They fit well as slim and I have skinny legs and have just enough arch support to be very comfy. Usually with jeans and a waterproof coat..dog walking isn't stylish!

When they wear out I'll probably get some Ariat boots (can't afford Dubarry!)

Here are my cheapo warm wellies £20

www.decathlon.co.uk/glenarm-300-wellies-warm-id_8345669.html

I hope that the right ones as they all look similar in the photos, they have a thick fleece lining, fairly light weight and are very slim fitting on the calf.

I wear them loads as I regularly walk in muddy woods.

All the country folk around here wear Aigle, Muck Boots, and you see a few Le Chameau. Or people have “country boots” as opposed to wellies, Dubarry or Ariat for example.

I currently have Aigle wellies.

I mainly wear with skinny jeans and long merino wool socks that fold over at the top so show above the wellies.
