Invisalign and coffee!

I'm hoping to start Invisalign next month, and I'm a Primary teacher and I love my coffee! I don't get much of a break during the day and rely on regular caffeine fixes, would I have to clean the Invisalign straight after each drink so that they don't stain? I'm worried I won't have time. I don't drink it black, I have plenty of milk (I'm a wuss)

If you want the Invisalign to stay clear you would need to clean it. I drunk tea when I had my invisalign in and was pretty lax on the cleaning front, it didn't affect the colour of them too much. Make sure you don't drink it too hot either as this can change the shape of your Invisalign too.

Surely you would remove them to eat and drink? And then give your teeth a quick brush before you put them back in?

Drink through a straw.

Main line coffee after you take it out for each meal!

@jamburglar yeah you have to remove to eat and drink but I wasn't 100% sure if you have to clean teeth after something like a coffee (as I don't take sugar)

@pinkrocker I'm so sorry, I have just re-read your OP and have no idea how I missed the bit where you were asking about cleaning! It's basically the whole point of your post! No idea why I thought you were asking could you just eat and drink as normal lol It's been a long day is my only excuse Blush

When I got my (night time) retainers as a teen I was told to drink only water with them in and if I ate anything or drank anything after I had brushed my teeth that I should re-brush before putting retainers in, so I would treat Invisalign the same as that

I was advised never to drink hot drinks with them in. Could you switch to Red Bull or similar? I want to re-whiten my teeth so am preparing to make that switch for a few weeks, but it’s not very appealing at the best of times, let alone a cold winter morning...

I would quickly take them out have a hot drink. If you can't give your teeth a brush then swill some water around before you pop them back in. Otherwise you risk remoulding the brave or staining your teeth - not worth it!

They take some getting used to but it's one of the best things I ever did.

I rinse with mouthwash sometimes if it is just a hot drink that I've had, but don't forget that milk contains sugars which can potentially cause decay. Some people can be quite lax about invisalign - I can't see the point in risking tooth decay if you want 'perfect' teeth!

I don’t think you should drink coffee or red bull with them in. You could try PP suggestion of a straw otherwise you might have to go without. I’m hoping to get Invisalign soon and I expect to have to change my lifestyle slightly

Ahhh that makes sense, I'd be happy to remove the Invisalign to have a coffee and then have a swill round my mouth with water/mouthwash and then replace them. I can cope with that. Just wasn't sure if I needed to thoroughly brush my teeth after a coffee.
I can't bear red bull etc unfortunately, too much overindulgence in the 90s, so that's out!
The other bit that's slightly worrying me is that I teach Y5-Y8 and if I lisp wearing the Invisalign (as I've been told that happens at first) will my more "forward" class take the mick?!

I found I only lisped for the first day or two of each new Invisalign insert, so maybe just swap them on a Saturday and you should be used to each one by Monday back at school

Take them out to drink, then rinse your mouth. Apart from water, you should never eat or drink with them in.

You can have tea and coffee wit them in as long as to dint have sugar. It may cause more staining of your attachments but you can buy products to combat this.

I wore invisalign and it was the best diet aid ever. I always took them out to eat or drink and as they should be worn for 22 hours at least each day I ate and drank at speed. I love my coffee but adapted. I would get everything made and then take the braces out, drink two cups of coffee quickly (or wine) then clean teeth. No snacking at all and I lost pounds.
You will soon be in a routine that suits you. And I never lisped. And my teeth are still lovely 10 years on. Good luck.

They are made from a heat formed plastic. Heat will distort them.

Also, until you take them out and clean them your teeth are bathing in whatever you’ve drank. Not only is that pretty disgusting, it will also drain and damage your teeth.

The only thing that should ever pass your lips when wearing Invisalign is water.
