What do you think of this charity shop dress?

I just want something practical and OK looking to wear to work (fairly formal environment, all the men wear suits). It’s Sisley and feels like a really nice fabric, comfy although tailored sleeves restrict arm movements. What do you reckon?

Very smart & looks good. Will the arms rub? I've got one dress that runs my armpits don't know why just a funny cut but it gets really sore actually I think I've got rid of it for that very reason.

I really like it. I’m always on the look out for dresses in that cut because they suit my body shape, and from the photo you look similar to me. The thing with the arms could be annoying though, you could try wearing it on a weekend day to test run the comfort level first.

Excellent, glad you like it. It’s not my usual shape so I had trouble getting my head around the look and teen DD was unimpressed.

The downside is that it’s a strange fabric mix and allegedly dry clean only - I’m dithering on whether to throw caution to the wind and shove it in the washing machine on hand wash cycle. No point in getting a chazza bargain if it’s going to cost you a tenner a wear to dry clean.

Op, it’s a lovely dress but my first impression was that the arms were a bit too long and needed to be taken up a bit.

I think it’s worth buying and trying to wash in the machine. If it shrinks you’ll not be very much out of pocket.

black is good for every day wear, not just funerals. its a chic and minimal colour, that's why its popular.

i like the longer sleeves, ballerina like with the neckline.

It looks great op. I do agree with you on fussy fabrics tbough , things are often sold on ebay/in charity shops because people just don't have the time or money to deal with them.

I would see how it gets on in the washing machine too.

It looks really good. I wouldn't dry clean a work dress. If it was a charity shop bargain and there wasn't much to lose I'd take a punt on the delicate cycle in a pillow case. Che sera sera.

It's nice, ideal for work. It could take a brooch, scarf or similar just to lighten it a bit. Definitely hand wash and reshape it while damp. You might find it shrinks a bit and you have to iron it back (on the inside) to its original length.

The only thing I ever dry clean is coats.

I think it depends what it cost for me personally. It looks a bit ill fitting around the shoulders and bust and could do with the waistline sitting slightly higher too IMO.
As it's a dark plain fabric though it does give a nice enough silhouette and is a solid option to throw on once a week for the work wardrobe- if it were cheap and if it can actually be laundered.

Exterior is polyester/viscose/elastane (sounds vile, feels v. high quality, like chintz). Skirt is lined with acetate/viscose. It wasn’t super cheap, but I guess I can afford to write it off as a donation to a good cause if it doesn’t survive a delicates wash (I also got a Hobbs wool skirt there which is a rock solid bargain, so I reckon I’m ahead of the game whatever).
