Black opaque tights (40 / 60 denier) - recommendations?

Aridane · 06/02/2020 07:12

My extensive bundle of work tights after many (very many!) years are now past their best.

So should now replace.

I bought a few replacements from Tesco, M&S and Sainsbury’s - intending to see which worked best. But muddled them up and now can’t tell which are which.

Anyhow, there are some I don’t want to buy again- ie bagged around the ankles, snagged very easily or were sort of patchy in colour. A far cry from my old faithfuls of 5 years +Blush

So any recommendations for decent black opaque thoughts 40 / 60 denier?

I am a shortie (5’2”) and one sized tights - unless on the small side - tend to be too big.

Thanks!

On a friend's recommendation, a couple of years ago, I bought some Wolford Velvet opaque 66. They are VERY expensive, but 2 years on, after extensive wear, my 2 pairs still look like new. I have worn them with boots as well as shoes. My M&S tights rub at the back if I wear them with boots, but so far, the Wolfords have no runs or snags, so my 2 pairs work for both. I wash them in a bra bag in the washing machine.

They get mixed reviews on here but I like Snag. The different sizing is really good and I haven't had any problems with snags or runs.

At the other end of the spectrum, mine come from Matalan and I am very pleased with them

I've been buying from Snag for the past year or so & I love them. Great fit, good quality and good price too (and discounts for multiple pairs purchased )
I've got some of the black and navy for work and then also bought some of their red tights and green ones too and all colours seem to be same in terms of quality.

Snag tights! The only tights I will ever buy. I ordered one pair and after wearing them I got rid of two drawers full of other brands of tights and ordered snag tights in every colour plus three nude and two more black!

I only wear Wolford ones these days - they last ages and look like new. Expensive outlay, but good value for money as they last so long.

Tried falke and didn't like them as much.

Another vote for Snag.

I'm also short and have got on very well with Primark's ones. In this cold weather I can also recommend the fleece tights they do - they are super warm.

next are good but they don't last very long.
I bought some snag tights cause they are raved about, well they are the worst tights ever.
I got the 50 denier which are actually more see through than the 40 denier from next and they feel very cheap.
Looking for recommendation myself.

Another vote for Wolford tights - I love the satin opaque ones and the velvet. They last extremely well

John Lewis velvet touch, better than M&S in my experience

Snag. I like them more than Wolford.

Next ... the ones with the extra wide/deep waist band are brilliant!

I have Snag and they fit but I haven't had them long enough to tell if they wear well.
Falke last forever though and also fit well. They are also ££££ but try TK Maxx or eBay.

I tried Snag and hated them, got a refund.

I like Heist, they have a deep waist band so don't fall down, the tops don't roll down. I can't say they look like new though, they have got some ankle bobbles.

Another vote for Heist. Best I’ve had.

Autograph seam free. As the name implies, no centre seam and a “proper” cotton gusset. Hence knickers optional. With nothing underneath the top adheres to your body and stops in place. They move with you not against you.

I'm also looking for recommendations - the first set of snag tights I got were amazing but the 2nd set were not good. Same size, I haven't grown but the waistband was suddenly too tight and rolled down. Complained and they re-sent but had the same issue with the 3rd set. I've given up now.

Have previously had good ones from debenhams and m&s but none have lasted for longer than a year before they look knackered.

Maybe going spendy is the way forward.

I've always found M&S tights to be the best. I'm short, and they're the only ones that don't go wrinkly around my ankles after walking for a couple of minutes. They wash well too.
