Recommend me a foundation brush

I bought some cheap bamboo ones from amazon. The kabuki brush is short and very good for foundation.

Don't use a brush, get a Beauty Blender!

You hold them under running water, until they have doubled in size. Then you squeeze all the water out. Put little dots of foundation on your skin and then bounce on the sponge over it and buff in it. Result - a perfectly blended airbrushed but natural look.

Yes beauty blenders are great and you can get cheaper alternatives. Even real techniques do one and I’m sure that’s cheaper and they’re often on offer. I wouldn’t put it in my make up bag though but then I wouldn’t carry around a brush in my make up bag unless it was a covered one.

I find beauty blenders used damp are much better than brushes to get a perfect finish.

I like the Real Techniques Expert Face brush. I blob foundation on the back of my hand, dot it on my face, then buff it in in circular motions. (I wouldn’t carry them about though, you probably want something retractable with a lid.)

AYU buffer brush, I will never use another sort again and I've tried them all.

I use Real Techniques blending sponges, way cheaper than the Beauty Blender (I balked at paying $20) and they do a brilliant job of applying foundation, giving a really smooth and even finish. I also use the pointy end for setting concealer and finishing powders in areas likely to get cakey like round the nostrils, in fine lines, under the eyes etc. Yes they are meant to be used damp and yes you should wash them daily (I use a squirt of my face cleanser on it) and leave to air dry. They should be replaced every couple of months too. I do have a beautiful IT foundation brush but barely use it any more since discovering the blenders.

For the sponge fans out there, do you use them in a patting motion, sort of stippling? I’m all conflicted!

The reason I say it should fit in my bag is that I often put on makeup when I get to work.

I watched a Bobbi Brown video where the subject used the same brush for foundation as blusher, surely then you really do need to wash it every day?

I've got brushes and sponges - never use the brushes, they get hard if you don't wash them all the time and damp sponge gives a much more natural finish

Why do you have to replace them every couple of months? Mine are in perfect condition after a year, I’d never just chuck them!

Yes, you are patting it into the skin.
You use the sponge for concealer and powder too! Just remember to wash after very use

McBerberloop it’s recommended due to bacterial build up within the sponges that eventually no amount of cleaning can remove.

nothingwittyhere Please spare me the lectures - we’re talking about beauty industry products which are the embodiment of wasteful and environmentally unsound self-indulgence given no one actually needs any of them.
If you can prove to me that every single tool and product you use is cruelty free/ethically sourced/environmentally friendly/has a zero carbon footprint - historically as well as currently - then maybe just maybe you can snipe at me. Right now though you don’t occupy any kind of moral high ground because if you were all that much of an eco-warrior you wouldn’t be using make up at all.

@QuantumEntanglement You are right. Spongers do harbour bacteria and they need to be replaced from time to time, not just when they are falling apart.

Anyone who doesn’t want to do for environmental reasons maybe should use brushes which can be easily cleaned or even your (clean) fingers!

If you’re putting the brushes in your bag to do at work OP I recommend getting some retractable brushes or a small set of travel brushes that have their own pouch as they will pick up bacteria otherwise
