New Year, new thread!!!! Continuing the great work already started!!!

This thread is for those that LOVE beauty products... so much so they hoard them, and covet them and behold the beauty that they contain 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Nice new squeaky clean thread Ahhhhhhh Grin

Actually the hoarding because it's nice run true .
I bought some mascaras last year ( I'm sure they were recommended on MN) the Primark gold tube and the one that;s a TooFaced Dupe .

Haven't opened them yet , because I don't really wear make -up and I've done this with mascaras where I wear them a couple of times then leave them till they've past the 3 months ( when they go in the bin)

Doesn't matter if they're £3 or £23 .

So, New Year Resolution could be to actually wear some on my non-work days .

Count me in, still hoarding and buying

Oh god, I’ve started doing an ‘audit’ of all my stuff. There. Is. Loads!
Need to sort it all out, as I’ve got a wonderful lady coming tomorrow who takes clothes, skincare, cosmetics to people in need.

I’ll post pics of the stash later!

I’m back in (was on previous threads) but think I’ve got even more than ever. Lots of advent calendar products so will be able to use them quickly

Hello and a Happy New Year! 🎄🎇🥂🎁

Can I join please? I got registered on MN for this discussion alone, and here is my confession entry ticket 🎫

I was hoarding all sorts of things for 15+ years, and my hoard survived two flat moves 🏚️ 🚛 🏡 I just could not say farewell to it 🤦 I struggle to throw things away unless they are completely used up/worn out/broken beyond repair, and I used to buy/collect too much. Eventually my small flat ended up being choke-full of items including hundreds of S&B products, and it became clear – I must start a strict low-buy, and use up what I already have 🙌

In spring 2017 I catalogued my entire S&B stash, divided it by categories, and started with the oldest products from each category.

However, what looked like an exciting journey to begin with, two years down the road started to feel like a chore and a punishment 😒 I needed a continuing source of inspiration. Fortunately, in April 2019 I found the original 2015 thread (Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!), and it recharged my batteries! Thank you, @IPokeBadgers, for starting the conversation! 🙏 I read every single comment on all nine threads, and swore that if I’m not done with my stash by 2020 or by the time you reach a thread number 10 (whichever comes first), then I ought to join!

Miraculously, 2020 and the thread no. 10 happened at almost exactly the same time, so here I am 🙋‍♀‍

P. S. I’d like to thank all the participants of these nine threads for sharing their honest reviews of the products. I’ve made a long list of products based on your reviews, and I plan to try them all at some point in the future (if they are not discontinued by then, of course 🤞).

I’m also grateful for a link to the Lipstick Calculator. Yesterday I did the maths for my most problematic categories of make-up products (eyeshadows, lipsticks, primers and foundations), and the results were absolutely shocking 😱 I plan to use this calculator in the future, at the beginning of each calendar year, because it serves as a very sobering reality check. The links to Beauty & The Bullshit and EWG’s Skin Deep were of great benefit, too! 👍

And last but not least, thank you all for your amazing sense of humour! So many of your comments put a smile on my face, and make my use-up journey much more bearable ❤️

I’m joining in too, I have just decluttered my dressing table after adding new Xmas present bits and have worked out what I need to use up and not buy anymore. No more makeup, facial skincare or shower gel, but need to buy shampoo, conditioner, deodorant as they run out.

I did use up loads in 2019 but then bought some new make up and a beauty calendar

I bought hardly any new make up last year

Plus 2 new perfumes for Christmas.

Love my beauty products and make up

Empty - Clinique all about eyes eye cream. Have another one in stash. I really rate this. It’s pricey. But lasts ages.

Another bath bomb gone. Ds spotted one and wanted it in his bath. So he’s all glittery now too. He was fascinated by it though! Thought it was hilarious.

Have finally done my audit!
This is the list, NOT including a massive box of stuff I gave away today. Also not including any body stuff, shampoo, hair stuff etc:

15 Lip balms
43 lipsticks/glosses
15 lip liners
11 bronzers and highlighters
10 mascaras
Too many eye and brow pencils/pens to count
12 blushers
5 powders
7 primers
22 concealers
10 foundations
4 face masks
6 eye creams
6 serums
16 moisturisers
4 exfoliants
11 cleansers/washes
10 spot treatments
3 treatments - hylaraunic acid etc

REALLY have to try doing a ‘no spend’ year!!!! This is just stupid amounts!
Ironically, my favourite things from this lot are the cheapest: Primark lipstick at 99p and Phoera foundation at about £3!

@ememem84 I know, it’s really hit home how much I need to actually use up, and try not to buy more.
I’ve selected 2 of each kind of item to put in my makeup bag, eg one nude lipstick, one dark, one dewy foundation, one full coverage, etc, plus one of each skincare product to put in the bathroom.
My strategy is to use only products from this selection until they’re gone.
Everything else has been stashed in the wardrobe or under the bed for now.

That’s like me. I have things I need to use up. So am just working my way through. At one point I had 17 moisturisers (body ones). I do use them so it’s not as dramatic as hoarding. But still. 17....!

My aim is to stick to the ones I know work for me (so I really rate palmers cocoa butter one so will buy that in future) but first use up everything I already have.

I switch between Clinique and clarins for my face.

I have far too many eyeshadow pallets. And about 11 mascaras. But again - will use these.

Foundation is a tough one. I have two liquid ones. But rarely wear them favouring a powder one instead. But I want to use up.

@ememem84 which powder foundation do you use? I used to use Bare Minerals, but think it’s too dry for me now.

I'll join, I didn't think I was a hoarder until I too did an audit of my stuff. I have three pots of Elemis cleansing balm in reserve, four opened day moisturisers from budget to high end, 4 mascaras, three bottles of foundation, four primers, two spare bottles of Alpha-H vitamin A stuff Blush

There's probably more but I'm not allowed to spend a penny until I've used everything up I am of course lying

Thank you for the welcome, @Experiment627! 🤗 You’ve been doing a fantastic job keeping this conversation going for so long! 👍

Thank you @tigerbear and @DoloresTheDonkey for sharing your audit results! You’ve inspired me to share mine! 🙂 I have spent the last three years meticulously grinding through my stash, but as of today I still own 235 full-size products, 39 deluxe samples and 69 foil sachets. I paid too much £3,059.05 in total for these 343 products.

My fragrance stash is another beast and is not included in the statistics above. But to give you an idea, I haven’t bought any perfume since August 2014, and I still have 3 full-size perfume bottles and 31 samples to plough through 🆘

My primary goal for this year is ‘20+20 in 2020’, which means I will try and use up 20 skincare and 20 makeup products. Any sizes will do – even if I finish only deluxe samples and foil sachets, it would still help 👌

My ultimate goal is to have only 2 full-size products in each S&B and personal hygiene category at any given time, and I would prefer my products to be not expired 🤢, not tested on animals 🐇, and with as little harmful ingredients as possible ☣️ I hope to find HGs, and I hope they will never get discontinued 🙏 I would also like to permanently reduce the total number of product categories I own, ideally to 55 (started with 72 categories in 2017, and currently at 70).

DoloresTheDonkey · 05/01/2020 18:06

Oh god Margo should I have added samples in?

I'll go off to check my stash, it's quite extensive.

@CherryMargo, oh i also have alot of fragrances, its one im very proud of and i dont want to part with any, so id rather not destash any👀

More things gone though!

Cherry bakewell shower cream. Im a sucker for these scented shower gels🙈

Elemis pro collagen rose facial oil. A comfortable oil on the fave, didnt feel heavy, greasy or horrible like some. Id be interested in trying the other oil. This was a tiny 5ml bottle, lasted ages though.

Lacura pink clay cleanser, cheap and cheerful. Bored of cream cleansers for my first cleanse, do moving on to balms for a while to find a fave!

BodyShop aloe sheetmask. I liked this, but apart from the advent calender i dont really buy much from BS, would probably pick similar up from somewhere else.

Girlzonly dry shampoo. This is Tescos own (i think) picked it up for 25p thinking it would be crap. Its okay, makes my head itch a little after applying.

I really wanted to get through January without buying a beauty product, but as im adding retinol into my skincare SPF is a must! So im going to buy the CoverFx spf drops on payday, ive never really used an SPF daily, but it is an essential i need to get used too.. Also making a wishlist on Cult beauty for when i "run out" Argh, feel like im addicted to shopping🤦🏼‍♀️🛍🛍

@Caggie09 last year I discovered that 3 of my perfume samples (5 ml plastic bottles) evaporated completely whilst waiting for their turn to be used 😞 I must try and use them all up before they go empty on their own!

@DoloresTheDonkey some samples took me such a long time to finish that I decided to include them into my inventory database. It is surprising how many uses I can get from a 2 ml eye cream sachet! 😅

Just finished a Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm.

Will definitely buy this again, but have some other cleansers/makeup removers to use first (or at least try - if they break me out, I am not going to bother with them).

I really want the Hourglass ghost palette, but I really shouldn’t - I have so much makeup already. I have the volume 3 version and I love it, and I think the ghost version looks even better. Even my DH is telling me to get it.
