Whatever happened to Mrs Gloss?

I used to love the Gloss FB site. However I’ve noticed in the last 18months + it has just become an affiliate site, much like the Instahuns. Any negative feedback regarding companies is very quickly shut down (particularly if it is regarding one of said affiliate links). I used to really enjoy it for its unbiased and informative advice. Now it’s advertisements and trout pouts. That said can anyone recommend another FB group like the Gloss of old before it sold out?

I used to love it! Left the group about a year ago for exactly the reasons you mention.

I left about a year ago, but hadn't really posted for a couple of years before that, it had become too big and impersonal. I really liked it when I first joined though.

Such a shame as there’s some good posts/advice still in there but I cannot cope with the adverts and lack of transparency.

Ahh this used to be such a good group with Nikki and all that lot doing their tutorials

Yes I miss the days of the Sunday Supplements and easy to follow tutorials that didn’t require trowels. I like the ethos of “kindness”
In Gloss, however that seems sometimes at the cost of blatant lying to people, which is contradictory to being kind.

Is this the Mrs Gloss and and the Goss Facebook site? I left it a few months ago but went to find it again recently and it had gone.

That’s the one @citygirl1961 it’s still there for me (well I have left today!)

Gloss&TheGoss makes my teeth itch. The entire thing is just so bloody fake. Someone's makeup/outfit looks absolutely bloody awful, yet there will be 2948 comments saying 'U look great hun! xx'

... and the poor woman will go out looking like she'd dressed/put her makeup on in the dark.

I honestly can't stand the fake saccharine culture of that group.

Yes, I liked the fact that it was kind but at the same time it made hard to give constructive criticism.

the Netmums of beauty, I'd say.

I suppose you’re right. It was obviously true on a lot of the posts because some were amazing at make up but other times it was clearly just done to be nice even though the poor person looked awful. They were always the ones with the most comments as well.

SamanthaBrique · 02/12/2019 21:37

@burnagirl 100% that. Plus whenever men posted it was always "gawjuss hun, better legs than me" even if they looked like a hod carrier in a miniskirt.

I still can't find it, only the Gloss and Goss one but not the one I was in before which was Mrs Gloss and the Goss and was very busy with loads of posts. I left because when I posted something they started just issuing a standard reply.

I used to love the live tutorials! I don't really look at it much anymore though because of all the reasons mentioned above. Posts are either attention seeking trout pouts (eg 'not sure about this outfit for date' when the poster is done up to the nines and obviously looks amazing), or else the poster looks terrible/is wearing something completely unsuitable for them yet gets 500 likes and fawning comments Hmm

Oh and don't even get me started on the photos of £££s worth of high end makeup with the comment 'look at what my man just bought me' 🙄

Oh I’ve just been on and someone’s written Mataland instead of Matalan. My OH says that and it makes me cringe.

Meh, I'm partial to a good trout pout and got enough filler in my lips to make a good life boat, but I cannot stand the contrived love-ins. And oh yes, ALLL THE GLOSSERS lining up to lick the odd guy's arse. Please. I wonder where this comes from. I mean, don't get me wrong - I encourage gender non-conformity, but for the sake of all that's green and holy, WHY THE FAKE APPLAUSE?!

A while ago a guy joined and kept posting selfies in makeup. Cue the usual fawning. One or two posters queried why a man would join and were quickly shouted down. Next thing we knew, the admin posted to say said guy had been removed from the group as he'd been messaging underage posters. Yes because none of us saw that coming...Hmm
