Breast implants

Hi, I’m looking into having breast implants and would like to hear from other Mums who have taken the plunge. I have two children one 10yrs and the other 20yrs so no worries about picking them up any more. I’m also 50 yrs old but without sounding big headed I look more like 35 to 40. I have lost all volume and to put it mildly, they look empty and a bit saggy. I believe my bra size is around 32B, I’ve tried to pad out bras with chicken fillets but that just looks terrible plus I have the added bonus of one is now bigger than the other. I am thinking I would need a lift and implants, if I’m going to have it done I may as well go a little bigger than I was. I’m hoping to be a 32D, not massive or high profile, just nice and natural looking. Am thinking if I do want the high profile look I can wear a push up bra. Anyway, I would like to hear from other mums who have been in a similar situation and their experiences. I would also like to know how long it was before they stopped hurting, what was the pain like after the op on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 is the highest pain), how long until they looked normal and soft, did you lose nipple sensation, how long before you can wear fake tan, any complications, any regrets etc. All stories are welcome x

I chose not to have implants. I am younger than you, but felt they would actually age me, if that makes sense. Too, i was worried about skin elasticity. When you are more mature, your skin stretches out easily and implants can be too heavy and start to droop & be painful. So risk of complications is higher.

I had lost some volume too with breastfeeding, but by doing upper body strength training of the pectoral muscles, I was able to reverse a lot of that.

Have you heard about all the issues with implants? There were the ones that leaked and now some implants have been linked with a risk with a certain kind of cancer (in news very recently). Honestly I wouldn’t risk it!

Tomatoes have been linked with cancer along with just about everything else. Being fat, smoking, drinking and exposure to toxic fumes causes cancer so we’re all doomed. Might as well have nice tits

Had my first implants 18 years ago and for last 5 years or so I was very unhappy with them, age, (I’m 55), gravity etc had made me look “matronly”. I was limited with what I could wear as I felt so self
Conscious. One was definitely smaller than the other and had dropped further down. Even my lovely DH agreed with me and he is never critical of my appearance.

I had definitely had them in too long but life, finances etc just got in the way and I continued trying not to think about it, avoided looking at them in the mirror and covering up.

At the end of last year I resolved to do something about it as I realised no point waiting any longer and being unhappy.

I had the implants taken out, replaced with slightly smaller ones and an uplift. Incidentally I also had tummy tuck - the full Mommy Makeover.

I couldn’t be happier with the results. It has taken years off of me. I have worn sleeveless tops, round/scoop/turtle/roll necks, fitted things etc etc that I didn’t feel able to wear for far too long.

If you want it done go for it sooner rather than later. I wish I hadn’t procrastinated for so long.

No loss of nipple sensation, healed well.

I don’t really wear fake tan so can’t comment on that.

Depends on your pain threshold but it wasn’t that painful for more than a few days and even then definitely bearable.

Book yourself in for some consultations and take it from there.

If you go ahead I really hope you will be as pleased you did as I am.

Following as I would like to know about this too lol

Loving the sound of a mummy makeover.

Those of you who has had your surgeries; did you have it done in the UK ? Or abroad ?

I had mine uplifted & implants after two children. Mine were saggy 32B before, and one bigger than the other. I let the surgeon decide on the size having shown him a lot of photos of what I liked. I got 32E and am sooo happy with them! Best money I have ever spent. It took me a good 3 weeks to be able to go out & about and not feel poorly and tired afterwards. I did lose some nipple sensation but still have enough to get by!
I went to Dr Plovier in Brussels here:
www.beclinic.com/en/
It was a lot cheaper than the UK and he is a super reputable surgeon. The cost included hotel & transfers but not Eurostar. The consultations are in Harley St in London.
I did not feel any pain as they give you 2 weeks worth of painkillers and other drugs to help you to sleep (as you have to sleep sitting up for 2 weeks). So zero pain. I had healed well in a month and was in a bikini on a beach 3 months later.

My kids are 5 and 3. I am now 41 and had mine done early last year. I am a size 8, always been a perky 32B. But after a total of 3 years breastfeeding, like you, I just had saggy skin and no type of bra fitted properly.

I went up to a 32D. I didn't want the 'under the chin' look, most especially due to my age and I dress quite classically. I had teardrop shaped implants, and they are inserted underneath the muscle, so both those things achieve a more natural look. My implants are guaranteed for life and were done by a very reputable surgeon in the UK, the cost was £5200.

I was in hospital for one night. From friends experiences, I was expecting a few days discomfort. But honestly I was in a lot of pain for about 3 weeks. I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks, and I found swimming and stretching very uncomfortable for months. I wasn't allowed to exercise for 6 weeks. The pain was due to them being put under the muscle I believe. I am over the moon with the results, the scars are not noticeable at all, and nobody that I know even noticed. My clothes look so much better and my boobs look in proportion to my hips and bum.

So I would say go for it if you want, but just make sure you do your research.

My surgeon was Mr Lam at the Thornbury in Sheffield. He put me at ease straight away and he is a first class surgeon.

I had implants 7 years ago when I was 27 due to fact I lost quite a bit of weight quickly. They lost all the volume on the top half and went south. I was always a C cup prior to loosing weight but when I saw the surgeon he said I was a empty B. I went for 500cc saline implants over the muscle and that got me upto a F cup. I was predicted about a D. I went for the normal dome shape implants although the do a more natural teardrop shape now.

I didn’t need a uplift. The implants have done a amazing job full volume on top. I wouldn’t of said at the time they looked fake just full. But since having them I have lost another 2.5 stone and they do look a tad fake without a bra on. But not in bras / tops. I just look like I have generous boobs.

After surgery I stayed in overnight, actually that night wasn’t too bad as the hospital bed is upright so I got a really good sleep. Next day the pain really wasn’t too bad, I didn’t sleep well tho as I am a front sleeper. But I was in quite bad pain on day 3, I remember being stiff all around my shoulders and ended sleeping in the reclining sofa for about a week.

We had a wedding evening reception on day 4 but I wasn’t upto going, I think I lounged around for about 5 days. The tramadol helped.

Re the sensation, 1 is very sensitive now the other has lost quite a bit of sensitivity.

Honestly I have no regrets, yes it hurt for 5-7 days but it was totally worth it.

No complications no issues at all.

If you get it done my tip would be definitely get a v shaped pillow. Also take a pillow with you to use inbetween yourself and the seatbelt for on the way home. I actually did that for about a month when being driven.

If you drive there was a period you weren’t allowed to drive for but I think I didn’t for about a month until I was fully better in myself and actually getting a decent nights sleep as I just can’t sleep on my back / propped up in bed.

Had mine at 24 before kids. Stopped hurting and was mostly back to normal after 2 weeks. Back to exercising after 6. Definitely totally normal after 3.

I found the recovery etc really easy. Though I was obviously younger. I’m going to get mine redone for aesthetic reasons once I’ve finished having babies and breastfeeding.

Hiya

I am looking to have breast implants. I am 49 and have always been unhappy with my small size. I have 2 kids aged 18 and 13. Has anyone got any recommendations, especially abroad? I have been looking and its so much cheaper than the UK but I am tempted for financial reasons

@Lisaj1970, this is the OP's thread.

There have been a few recommendations of surgeons upthread e.g. one in Belgium.

I have had mine in for 14 years this November, my advice is don't go to big, being a little older I think it doesn't look so natural, as most over 50s wouldn't have large firm breasts, I had 360cc which took me from a A cup to a D or DD depending on brand, good luck.

Ment to add for me pain was 9 out of ten, I had under muscle it's more painful but more natural.

If I had the money and my children were old enough to look after themselves, I would definitely have the full works / mommy makeover!

As long as your 10yo is a reasonably mature 10yo and you have support at home, then why not?

There are risks with all surgeries though. My dsis is a doctor and pretty blase about surgery. She says she would opt for a c section if she had children etc, but even she did baulk at some breast and abdominal surgery when I mentioned me wanting it. Her reaction did put me off, as my dcs are still very young . It is something to think about and discuss with your doctor. The thing that put me off most was explaining to dcs why I needed to recover (vanity in my case Halloween Grin) and what example that would set them. Also, the horror stories of people dying during routine cosmetic ops. My mum died under GA, so I'm wary. She was in her fifties at the time. But, I think complications must be more common the older you get? So if you leave it any longer...

Oh yes, my dsis also had a (doctor) friend who had quite serious complications after a boob op in her thirties, which also freaked me out a bit.

So, I can see both sides! Not very helpful, sorry!

Jesus I thought twice about drinking the water in Thailand nevermind surgery. I think somewhere in Europe might be a good compromise. Just in case

I got mine at 18 because I had a breast deformity. I developed capsular contracture within 2 months and never had the money to replace them. Fast forward 11 years I still have rock hard painful boobs.

They tell you they are safe, nothing will go wrong, and they are guaranteed for life. This isn’t true, they are linked to a rare form of cancer, breast implant illness, capsular contracture, rippling and rupture.

You will need the replaced every 10 years as your breast will sag and hang of the implant. A surgeon told my sister every woman with implant will have silicon in there lymph nodes.
