What will you wear this autumn and winter? My birthday is coming up I've asked for money to get a good coat. I'm looking for something versatile, warm and will keep me somewhat dry as I'm in Scotland

Practical coat? Im up north too, dont drive, so need something trusty!
Mine is a didricksons stormcoat. Protection-wise, everything else ive ever had pales in comparison. Wind-roof, waterproof, etc.

Leather biker for nowish when it's a little chilly but sometimes the sun comes out.
Red Duffle coat for when it starts to get to the really pretty part of autumn then I'll switch to a navy parka when it starts getting dark rainy and really cold.

I'm looking for something a bit smarter I have a padded bomber and a leather jacket. Something that I can wear to work out for lunch ect but won't look like a tit turning up on the school run.

Ah, me too. I need a new wool coat. Im dreading the search. I always overthink it and go a bit insane 😁

And they never have my preferred colour when i do find ‘the one’.

I have just got this wool coat from Boden and am really pleased with it. The fit is lovely and it feels lovely and warm. I used a 20% discount code. https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/hengrave-coat-baltic/sty-t0198-tur

I would love a new coat but I shouldn't. I have two faux fur coats, a faux fur lined biker, a camel wool long coat, an oversized check wool coat, a sea salt coat for dog walking and a tfl parka.

I love this. I got it in dark grey last year and it’s amazingly cosy. It looks good day to day and also out.

Coats are my favourites! I have a few I swap around, but through autumn/winter I will be wearing:

Leather biker - Whistles
Smart wool coat - Topshop
Faux furs, various colours and styles - Topshop, Zara, ASOS, Whistles
Parka - Whistles
Pea-coat - M&S

I wear the parka in poor weather, the faux furs probably the most, and the smart wool coat infrequently, but it’s a useful thing to have. I tend to buy coats I know I will wear for years, some of these are really ancient, but the parka was last year’s.

@Ellapaella - I like that Boden coat. But I already have the same jeans, top and boots as you so I better not buy it 😂

Lovely coat Ellapaella
I have far too many coats and jackets - various parkas, leathers, a velvet jacket, wool coat in blues, black, grey, khaki, navy and periwinkle.

Boden are good for wool coats, although I have a 10 year old one in a similar style to Ellapaella's that is 100% boiled wool and I've never had a warmer coat so I'd recommend looking for boiled wool. Or the Uniqlo ULD coats and jackets make a good warm thin layer below a not so cozy smart coat.

I want a Mistral coat with the funky odd button arrangement and something in tailored wool...maybe in cream, pale blue or pink for when I need to be smart yet feminine. Oh, and something high tech to keep the elements out when the transport and power systems all grind to a halt in the harsh post-Brexit apocalypse that's approaching.

My budget says last year's Uniqlo duvet coat that makes me look like the Michelin man will suffice.
