Hand cream that actually works to fix very dry skin.

I used to get an Avon (Australia & NZ) hand cream from my Mum but Avon no longer operates in NZ and they don't make the same one here. Since I ran out of that marvellous cream (Moisture Therapy, it was called) my hands have been very dry. I must have tried 10 different creams and none of them work.

I've tried:

  • Neal's Yard Honey/Bee something or other, and the delicious Geranium one.
  • Aveeno Daily Moisture, and Intensive Relief
  • Sainsbury's pink hand cream (shea butter, maybe)
  • Norwegian formula
  • Garnier Intensive Restoring, and 7 Days
  • Atrixo Intensive (this came closest but still not good enough)
  • Palmer's Cocoa Butter
  • Burt's Bees Shea Butter

and probably some more.

Help! What else should I try?

O'Keeffe's Working Hands is good.

My dad has been in search of a good hand cream for years since his favourite was discontinued, and this gets a grudging nod of approval, which is praise indeed!

Liz Earle Hand Repair. I’ve tried dozens including pricey brands and this is the best for me

Thank you.

Will start with the first two: one for daytime, one for night, and see how I get on.

Mavala is nice and not greasy at all. I have really, really dry hands and tried loads and have just repurchased this one as I like it so much.

I have terrible cracked and bleeding hands every year in autumn/winter. For as far back as when I was at University in 97!

Last year I bought these 2 from The Range. £1 each. I was AMAZED. I almost went the whole time with no cracking or bleeding....just the last week or so of winter. Totally unprecedented.

I use an american one called dr sheffield's psoriasis cream. Its $1 in USA so I stock up when i go, otherwise its £10 on Ebay!

I recommend melaleuca renew lotion, but thats a bit more pricey per ML and can only find it on ebay in the UK.

I also use castor oil with hemp cream from body shop when i run out of the above.

After years of searching, I can declare the best hand cream in the universe to be L'occitane very dry skin shea butter. (the one with 25% shea butter). Nothing else is comparable (and I’ve tried everything).

I've not felt the need for handcream since I started using flexitol (or similar) on my feet at night.Grin

Thirded for Body Shop Hemp. They also do a oil for really dry spots. Love the stuff.

Okeefes is amazing

I was a nurse and years of washing meant that my skin would regularly split and bleed
It was painful and ugly

However I've been using this for a year and have not had one breakout, lovely soft hands

Ps I tried everything

Loccitane, I like the cherry blossom one and Clarins. I hate the feeling of greasey handcream and these literally save my paws. I too wash my hands up to 50 times a day and these are my lifesavers

I switched from using regular soap to dr bronners baby soap that i buy by the litre and dilute 1:5.
Since i stopped using regular soap at home, my hands do not get nearly as dry and rough as before. I notice if I've been out using normal soap my hands feel drier.

The Body Shop Hemp one is good but it smells so bad I have to wash it off which sorts of defeats the purpose Grin

Another for body shop hemp. It's amazing. I like the smell 🤷🏽‍♀️

O keefe is the green one right? I tried it and it left my hands a state, like when you've put your hands in water for too long and they go all prune like!

The hemp does have an acquired scent but i put it on at night with castor oil and wrap with an overnight glove. Works wonders!

Body shop hemp, especially if you also have eczema or similar. I like the fragrance free vaseline Advanced Repair one too, for the times when you need something but also need to actually use your hands afterwards Grin
