Signature scent

So I have vowed to find a signature scent before I hit 50.

I bought Paul Smith Rose and it's nice but has no staying power.

I usually wear the Clarins red one (winter) or Estee Lauder Green Tea (summer) but again, neither of them last very well. Or Paul Smith men's striped bottle.

My favourite scent of all time is Tom Ford Tuscan Leather but I can't afford it, and it's too heavy for daytime even if I could.

I want it to be something that people can notice, without being offputtingly strong. I hate Angel and anything too sweet.
Oh and if it can be found in John Lewis, Boots or Selfridges even better. And ideally less than £60 for a bottle that will last me a fair few months!

Any ideas, please, oh wise ones?

My signature scent is Roma Uomo by Laura Biagiotti. I love Tom Ford Tuscan Leather but also out of my price range. Roma is unlike anything I’ve smelled before. I never get tired of it. It’s warm, sweet, woody, unusual and addictive imo. I’ve worn it for over 30 years after falling in love with it. It’s truly unisex imo . And only about £32 a bottle.

Thank you. Is it available in bog-standard shops?

Try the tuscan leather dupe from perfume parlour!
£5 for 13ml spray

I think I'd just feel a bit 'wrong' with a dupe. Would rather find something lovely and 'real', if that makes sense! I also don't want something that heavy for everyday.

Remus no it’s not sadly. I get it when I visit family in Germany but it’s available on Beauty Bay but obviously you can’t test it easily. Are you going on holiday this summer as often duty free have it

I could spray a bit into a bottle for you to try and post it though I guess.

Thank you, Cambalon. As it happens, I'm going to Germany!

I’ve dried lots of dupes of all sorts of favourite perfumes from Perfume Parlour and haven’t liked any so far,

That's really kind of you. I'll try to track it down over the summer and let you know if I fail!

Oh what a coincidence. If you are anywhere near a branch of Douglas they stock it. And they always have it at airport. It’s this one.

Yes let me know if you can’t find it and I can send a bit. I think it’s unlike anything I’ve smelled before.

Are you sure they don;t last or is it just you stopping smelling them? There was a woman wearing Clarins red two days in a row at the gym last week and it smelled so good I had to go out and buy some. I hadn;t smelled it in years.

Have you tried the other Clarins scents? They are also gorgeous. Blue is fantastic for summer - really fresh, and the yellow one is warm and summery too without being sweet.

Thanks again, Cymbalon.

Thanks, Growling. I haven't tried the other Clarins ones, so will definitely go and sniff them!

How is a signature scent different from perfume? Confused

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/07/2019 19:20

PD - I mean one scent that is recognisably 'me'.

Most of the Chanel and Dior perfumes have a very long staying power.

Or YSL Cinema or JPG Classique.

Purple A signature scent is one which you wear exclusively all the time (or virtually exclusively) so that when people smell it, it always reminds them of you. I always thought it would be nice for my DCs to have a signature scent to remind them of me. In fact they have about 40 which would remind them of me Grin

The scents I like best make my children say 'yuck, I hate your perfume Mum'. That's the very classy chypre 'Dryad' by Papillon and the admittedly eccentric 'Nuit de Bakelite' by Naomi Goodsir. One of their favourites is the cheap and cheerful 'April Violets' by Yardley. I don't know why I bother!

Is the Tom Ford one you like a bit 'masculine'? If so try Liz Earle no15, that's got staying power and is heavy/deep without being too much so.

Thanks, all. I'm writing all of these in my phone ready for a sniffing session. The Tom Ford is very masculine indeed - it smells like old men in an old book shop!

You'll need to choose one of the long standing classics if you want to be sure to have it forever. I've used a channel one for 27 years. Three times I tried something else, always went back to my signature one.

My signature scent is Chanel No 5 for daytime and Chanel Coco for night. Have worn them for 40 years .

Dior dune. Smells amazing. Lasts a long long long time, as does Dior Addict (but Addict is sweet imo so it may not be for you)
I also love Lancome Miracle which lingers and has great staying power.
