QueenOfTheAndals Wed 19-Jun-19 11:46:36

Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

youngestisapsycho Wed 19-Jun-19 11:47:24

Are they all there again today?

pinkladyapples Wed 19-Jun-19 11:47:57

Thanks Queen!

AudacityOfHope Wed 19-Jun-19 11:48:55

Here we go again! Thanks Queen

BigGreenOlives Wed 19-Jun-19 11:56:19

Thank you @QueenOfTheAndals for the new thread.

IHeartArya Wed 19-Jun-19 11:57:52

Thanks Queen

iknowimcoming Wed 19-Jun-19 12:05:59

Thanks for new thread - it would be lovely if Zara and Eug were preggers at the same time wouldn't it? A nice big bunch of royal children at similar ages would be a very positive thing going forward I think - mind I like big families!

SunshineCake Wed 19-Jun-19 12:12:01

I haven't quite finished reading the last thread but I wanted to say with W & C being as they are over the elderly lady's wellbeing I wonder if the woman from the crash with the Duke of Edinburgh will come out and moan how she never got a visit. She's been quiet since charged with motoring offences herself.

CurlyWurlyTwirly Wed 19-Jun-19 12:14:59

Gosh all those threads! Thanks @QueenOfTheAndals

Wonder if Meghan will make an appearance. Ascot seems to be a real family catch up.
I wonder if some of the «lesser» royals like Lady Sarah Chatto will ever make an appearance <hopeful >

Daisypie Wed 19-Jun-19 12:20:13

Thanks Queen. They do all look very happy and relaxed together, don't they? I agree with a PP saying it might be less relaxed if Meghan and Harry were there.

FATEdestiny Wed 19-Jun-19 12:24:33

Checking in

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-19 12:26:55

Thanks for the new thread Queen.

I think if Meghan is going to attend one day out of the week it will be Ladies Day on Thursday, but I don't think she will.

CurlyWurlyTwirly Wed 19-Jun-19 12:31:00

Sophie and Edward; 20 years today. Definitely the longest marriage of their generation

BigGreenOlives Wed 19-Jun-19 12:33:21

Sophie hasn’t changed very much has she, lovely smile then and now.

Laiste Wed 19-Jun-19 12:34:45

I don' think she will either. It's a famous, highly scrutinised outdoors event with a lot of hanging about in full view of photographers while socialising informally. About as bad as it gets for a first engagement as a very new mum and a reasonably new member of the family after a long while out of the spot light.

Or maybe she'll be there with bells on and i'm just projecting?! grin

Laiste Wed 19-Jun-19 12:38:16

I just think at this event there's soooo much scope for oooh look how she twitched slightly when Harry did x, or oooh look how Kate turned her head 2 degrees left when Meghan was on her right, that if i was MM i'd avoid this one this year.

(don't get me wrong though; speaking for myself - i hope she goes! I love all gossip wink)

ChardonnaysPrettySister Wed 19-Jun-19 12:39:35

Sophie’s outfit would have been much better without the matching hat.

Didn’t like Kate’s hat as well.

frugalkitty Wed 19-Jun-19 12:49:04

Checking in, thanks Queen

StCharlotte Wed 19-Jun-19 12:50:01

Thanks for the new thread *Queen - great title.

Pretty sure I've been on all of them. Might check out the early ones to see what we were saying back then!

The last few seem to have speeded up somewhat, or is that just me?

Horsemad Wed 19-Jun-19 13:05:41

Thanks for the new thread.

Anyone else having a guess at HM's colour scheme today??

pinkladyapples Wed 19-Jun-19 13:09:39

Tatler has a good look back at some of Kate's hats and headbands. I think I love her maple leaf one the most grin

QueenOfTheAndals Wed 19-Jun-19 13:14:04

Sophie looks better now than she did when she married Edward. The fashions of the late 90s/early noughties were not kind to anyone.

QueenOfTheAndals Wed 19-Jun-19 13:14:25

@Horsemad Perhaps yellow for HM today?

pinkladyapples Wed 19-Jun-19 13:16:47

@Horsemad I am saying pink.

Horsemad Wed 19-Jun-19 13:20:39

Oh those hats 😍 I love them!

Stravapalava Wed 19-Jun-19 13:22:16

I hope they are all out again today. There definitely seemed to be an air of celebration / happiness yesterday.

Horsemad Wed 19-Jun-19 13:23:41

@QueenOfTheAndals - yes, I think yellow too! ☀️

CadburysTastesVileNow Wed 19-Jun-19 13:33:18

youngestisapsycho Wed 19-Jun-19 13:40:56

Found this online

beanaseireann Wed 19-Jun-19 13:54:05

Anyone else notice Amanda Wakeley wearing agigantic oversized Anne Boleyn headband, photographed yesterday at Ascot ?

queenofarles Wed 19-Jun-19 13:56:06

Regarding today’s Ascot.
Not very exciting!

Is the countess of Mountbatten none other than Penelope Knatbull?

AppleKatie Wed 19-Jun-19 14:00:37

Thanks for new thread <checking in for pics>

alldressedupinblue Wed 19-Jun-19 14:04:03

The Duke of Edinburgh's friend, Penelope Mountbatten, is in this pic:

pinkladyapples Wed 19-Jun-19 14:12:16

Looks like HMQ is in blue again on some photos I have seen on Twitter.

Horsemad Wed 19-Jun-19 14:12:24

Hmmm, maybe yellow tomorrow - it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow! 😉

Are the junior Royals absent today?

I have a friend of the family attending in the Royal Enclosure on Friday!! Not sure how reliable he'll be for info, he's only 20 and I can't imagine he'll be that bothered about the fashion/goss! 😆

SunshineCake Wed 19-Jun-19 14:39:24

this is nice.

SunshineCake Wed 19-Jun-19 14:44:08

Carriage ride.

FATEdestiny Wed 19-Jun-19 14:45:02

I have always thought (my mum.always told me) that had a should always be worn over the forehead, much further forward than you might expect.

Clearly wearing hats forward is a 'thing, because everyone does it and have done for years. But look back at that (and other) pictures of HM and PM as young adults, and no hats are worn rediculouly far forward on the head.

Why / when the change?

FATEdestiny Wed 19-Jun-19 14:45:59

"...that hats should always be worn over the forehead..."

youngestisapsycho Wed 19-Jun-19 14:53:42

Laiste Wed 19-Jun-19 14:56:03

@FATEdestiny same here.

Maybe they didn't want to cover their faces too much so they could be seen by the people. Less media opportunities for the average person to get a glimps of HM.

Another thing my mother drilled into me (along with the low hat) is that if you carry a bunch of flowers (bride/bridesmaid) you hold them low, just beneath the navel. Looks much nicer than clutched right up in the air by your boobs. I think nerves causes people to do the later though.

Nogravyforyou Wed 19-Jun-19 15:00:58

The Queens hat is beautiful

Horsemad Wed 19-Jun-19 15:02:54

Oh yes @Laiste, I totally agree re bouquets! Remember somebody who was watching me go in telling me to hold mine slightly lower when I arrived at church!

beanaseireann Wed 19-Jun-19 15:09:16

The dressmaker who made my wedding dress told me to hold my bouquet down in front of my f*nny. grin
Of course I forgot.

TracyBeakerSoYeah Wed 19-Jun-19 15:13:36

Thanks Queen

And Bean grin

QueenOfTheAndals Wed 19-Jun-19 15:28:18

@Laiste I was a bridesmaid when I was about 7 or 8 and insisted on holding my bouquet in front of my face. It was a fairly large bridal party and in the photos all the other bridesmaids are holding their bouquets where they should be, and there I am with flowers grasped firmly in front of face!

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-19 15:30:22

At a US wedding the florist told all us bridesmaids that the "flowers grow on the bush". We were shocked but we all remembered!

frugalkitty Wed 19-Jun-19 15:41:39

The thing about totals wearing hats is that they need to avoid hiding their faces because then they don't photograph well. Grace Kelly wore a huge hat when she sailed into Monaco to be married and there was a lot of complaining by the press and people who'd turned out to watch because they couldn't see her face.

QueenOfTheAndals Wed 19-Jun-19 16:01:52

Speaking of Grace, I found an old Pathe reel of her wedding. She looks as miserable as Charlene did but perhaps she was just a bit overwhelmed by the occasion.

SeaRabbit Wed 19-Jun-19 16:18:12

I think the Queen's hat today is hideous - the flowers look like something from Accessorise.

Wetdogloveshubert Wed 19-Jun-19 16:19:00

Max is out at home, and looking gorgeous of course!

Horsemad Wed 19-Jun-19 16:21:49

Max looks fabulous, I love that outfit.

IHeartArya Wed 19-Jun-19 16:22:36

What a fabulous outfit Max is wearing!

TipseyTorvey Wed 19-Jun-19 16:23:59

Shamelessly placemarking. Missed a week of the thread from starting a new job and just caught up, thank you for the new thread queen!

UrsulaPandress Wed 19-Jun-19 16:27:12

Signing in.

Max fabulous as per.

GlamGiraffe Wed 19-Jun-19 16:36:45

Gosh love these threads. All the frock ogling! Thanks Queen!!
I also thought His hat was bizarre when I saw it with the flowers stuck all over it
Does she have lots of plain ones and randomly stick faux flowers ( on in this case very fake ones) on them to distinguish them?
I have to admit i did feel rather sorry for them having to just sit there in van open carriage with puddles forming around their feet. Its the kind of thing I just opt not to go to if the weather's bad I'd rather sactifice it than suffer a wet cold day.

Mrsmadevans Wed 19-Jun-19 16:45:15

Thank you for the brand spanking new thread QueenOfTheAndals smile
Max looks amazing, even with her hair down and not styled , 'she pays to dress' as my Mum would say smile. Well done on finding the carriage procession list Youngest , that was brilliant of you scurries off to see if there is one for tomorrow and ladies day
Not so fond of the Queens coat today but love her hat, Camillla always sticks to what suits her and doesn't put a foot wrong usually.

latedecember1963 Wed 19-Jun-19 16:55:04

Thank you for the new thread, Queenofthe Andals. 👸🤴

GlamGiraffe Wed 19-Jun-19 16:57:51

Princess Anne looks much better than usual. I was most pleasantly surprised. Her outfit looks a bit more up to date and composed. Anyone know when that one made its previous appearance ?

frugalkitty Wed 19-Jun-19 17:00:08

Thanks for that footage Queen it's so nice to watch, even in black and white.

Paradyning Wed 19-Jun-19 17:04:51

Funny you should say that Glamgiraffe. I said in the previous thread I thought it looked very very vintage

Paradyning Wed 19-Jun-19 17:08:14

Oh hang on! Sorry. I was talking about yesterday's outfit!

itswinetime Wed 19-Jun-19 17:11:16

When is lady's day this year? Hopefully we will see some more royals out for that. I think it's only the queen that goes every day though?

Alwayscheerful Wed 19-Jun-19 17:28:21

Checking in.

Gooseysgirl Wed 19-Jun-19 17:33:07

HM's hat looks like one of those dodgy 1980s plastic funeral wreaths

TyraAllen Wed 19-Jun-19 17:34:27

Ladies' Day is tomorrow.

managedmis Wed 19-Jun-19 17:40:22

Why did Sophie never end up as popular as Diana in the celebrity stakes? She's as beautiful, high profile, etc. I guess because she wasn't married to Charlie?

Disfordarkchocolate Wed 19-Jun-19 17:50:44

The Queen's hat matches her dress but the flowers look like they came from Poundland. I like Sophie's hat today so much more than yesterday.

TyraAllen Wed 19-Jun-19 17:55:20

I think probably because she married Edward managedmis and the press has always regarded him as a bit pointless, so unless he does something really shocking, he doesn't get a lot of notice. I also reckon (but have no evidence for this!) that neither of them play the game of tipping off the photographers, or leaking stories.

TyraAllen Wed 19-Jun-19 17:58:36

Sophie's hat is much better today. I like Camilla's too. Can't beat a massive, impractical hat as far as I'm concerned!

Laiste Wed 19-Jun-19 18:01:09

managedmis I think Diana's story is about as tabloid tempting as it can get!

Beautiful but shy aristocratic teenager from broken home marries eligible bachelor heir to the British throne after whirlwind engagement. Big age gap. Produces 2 sons. She transforms into a stunning woman and is arguably the most photographed celeb of the era. Marriage breaks down. Messy affairs with gory details. Divorce. He gets with his mistress. She gets more and more photogenic, joins the jet set, hits her peak and then dies in her 30s in a terrible accident that may or may not have been caused by the very press who courted her since she was 19. Rumors still swirl around her decades on and her children are now marrying and having babies. One of which may (or may not) be the future monarch.

Sofie - reasonably attractive, got married to Prince Edward in her 30s and is still married to him. Has 2 children.

No contest really grin

IHeartArya Wed 19-Jun-19 18:07:56

You couldn’t really make it up Laiste

peridito Wed 19-Jun-19 18:10:24

Where are you all seeing pics of everyone today ? I can't find any sad

Found this ,which I don't understand .I'll leave it here for my betters .

managedmis Wed 19-Jun-19 18:24:41

Liste, fair point grin

StCharlotte Wed 19-Jun-19 18:58:19

Anyone else notice Amanda Wakeley wearing a gigantic oversized Anne Boleyn headband, photographed yesterday at Ascot ?

Yes and it looked bloody awful - this from someone who adores a headband.

Myimaginarycathasfleas Wed 19-Jun-19 19:02:35

* Why did Sophie never end up as popular as Diana in the celebrity stakes? She's as beautiful, high profile, etc.*

There was a huge amount of interest in who Charles married. But also Diana did have star quality. Sophie, with the best will in the world, didn't.

She looked a lot like Diana but in a diluted way. She didn't have Diana's way with the media. We thought (mistakenly) that Diana was shy, but in fact she was artfully coy. She had a twinkle in her eye that was very winning.

Sophie has turned out to be a rock solid royal, but she didn't have the same appeal as Diana. And probably no bad thing.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 19-Jun-19 19:09:46

Agree with @Myimaginarycathasfleas but also by the time Sophie married Edward we'd already seen three of the Queen's children marry and divorce so there just wasn't much public interest.

DobbyTheHouseElk Wed 19-Jun-19 19:21:56

Caught up again, lost track of the last thread.

I liked Catherine’s blue dress. The skirt was very princessey. Love it.

QueenOfTheAndals Wed 19-Jun-19 19:23:49

I think Edward's always been seen as the least of HM's children. He wasn't the first to get married like Anne, he wasn't the future king like Charles and he wasn't a dashing naval hero like Andrew. He has the air of a suburban bank manager or middle class vicar. But he puts in the hours these days and gets very little publicity - if you look at the court circular he's got engagements almost every day!

DobbyTheHouseElk Wed 19-Jun-19 19:41:08

I think
Edward and Sophie are very hard working and being a bit dull they get left alone, thus perpetuating the “dull” tag. I think they are very clever. They get to have a private life.

TyraAllen Wed 19-Jun-19 19:45:23

Yes, Edward does loads, maybe he needs to do more joint engagements with Sophie so he gets a bit more notice?

Myimaginarycathasfleas Wed 19-Jun-19 19:48:19

Without meaning to be unkind, Edward has always seemed like the embodiment of middle class, middle England, middle age. They have turned out to be a very safe pair of hands and I think the Queen recognises and appreciates this.

Myimaginarycathasfleas Wed 19-Jun-19 19:49:51

And thank you Queen for the new thread. Pardon my manners!

Notmyrealname855 Wed 19-Jun-19 20:23:12

Placemarking! grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly Wed 19-Jun-19 20:25:27

Ascot was a bit uninspiring today.
Check out Anne’s sensible coat; and who she’s with.
Camilla has an impressive collection of chokers

DobbyTheHouseElk Wed 19-Jun-19 20:31:03

That’s a very practical coat.

beanaseireann Wed 19-Jun-19 20:34:22

Well he is a widower now isn't he ?

shedid Wed 19-Jun-19 20:47:29

Who is he?

CadburysTastesVileNow Wed 19-Jun-19 20:48:41

ooh - grace had to wait at the altar while Rainier walked down the aisle. Is that protocol? I'll have to check out Albert's wedding to see

CadburysTastesVileNow Wed 19-Jun-19 20:52:09

Nope. Hell of a long walk for Charlene in tall heels though.

CurlyWurlyTwirly Wed 19-Jun-19 21:04:06

Well he is a widower now isn't he ?

Yes but Anne is still married

( it’s Andrew Parker Bowles; Camilla’s first husband)

UrsulaPandress Wed 19-Jun-19 21:06:15

Oh bless Ann. She’s grabbed something from the coat hooks by the back door. I have similar

PinkSun9 Wed 19-Jun-19 21:06:49

@ Shedid

He is Camilla's ex husband Andrew, who at one point had an affair with Princess Anne. Rumours have it that Commander Tim and PA are living a separate life and Andrew Parker Boyles are back together.

PinkSun9 Wed 19-Jun-19 21:09:26

ETA, ..... that supposedly Andrew and Anne are together again.

RomaineCalm Wed 19-Jun-19 21:09:47

That coat worn over an Ascot 'frock' is exactly why I love PA.

MummyToEthan Wed 19-Jun-19 21:17:44

Thanks Queen winebrewgincake

GlamGiraffe Wed 19-Jun-19 21:21:24

@Gooseysgirl @Disfordarkchocolate Ypure both so right about the hat. I hasn't even thought if Poundland. I was thinking something far more upmarket. Perhaps Claire's accessories?
It's a bit like a child's Easter bonnet project on further reflection.

Considering the current climatic situation I am wondering if I should be purchasing a practical PA coat. She may be on to a good thing.😉😂

AdaColeman Wed 19-Jun-19 21:26:59

I love the Pathe film of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainer, thanks for posting that Queen!
I've got two of the wine glasses used at their wedding banquet, a little bit of history! wine wine

AdaColeman Wed 19-Jun-19 21:30:41

Her Maj looks as though she grabbed her hat off a passing Morris Man dancer! grin

Spudlet Wed 19-Jun-19 21:40:19

Anne: 'Pretty dress, or warm, dry and comfortable? No contest!'

Go Anne grin
