Has anyone been left with scarring after plasma pen/fibroblast?

I had this done last week and some of the scabs have fallen off, only to my horror that instead of smooth fresh skin, there are indentations where the plasma pen were placed!! I'm so worried as I feel like I can't go back to work any time soon looking like this. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, did you manage to reduce the scarring? Makeup makes it even more obvious so I'm at a loss, feeling distressed, help! I'm regretting this so much.

I’ve had the treatment 8 weeks ago and I still have the indents 😭 seen the lady that did it today and she said just leave it till 12 weeks and see . Didn’t sound very convincing tho 🙈 hoping it will heal . Yours is very early tho I wouldn’t worry at this point x

I wanted to reply as I haven’t seen many ‘plasma pen gone wrong’ stories and I wanted to share my experience.
I had plasma pen treatment 2 weeks ago for acne scarring/crepe skin on my chin and on my neck to tighten a prematurely aging ‘turkey neck’. The lady I used was recommended by a couple of people who had seen her for plasma pen and were really happy with the results, and she also has very good credentials. She (and everyone else) told me it would be painful and she said the neck would be least painful so started with that but honestly, it was like someone was searing my skin! So painful I almost passed out and was crying on the couch! I let her do my chin afterwards, which by comparison was no where near as painful. I was booked in to have my undereye done as well but opted out at this point. Immediately afterwards it felt like my whole face and neck were on fire but I was advised not to cool it down so I lived with it. This eased after the first night and was more bearable after 24 hours. The first week was quite uncomfortable but more because of how it looked than how it felt. It was tight as the scabs had sort of joined together, but it wasn’t too sore. A few of the scabs started falling off around day 5 and 6 with most coming off day 8. After the scabs were gone I was left with bright pink dots in their place. Over the next few days the pink dots started to look less angry and the skin on my chin definitely looks smoother and is healing nicely. The skin on my neck however is looking dubious. At the bottom of my neck above my collarbone I have what looks like tiny white scars. They look tight and shiny. I keep getting told this is normal at two weeks but I am so worried that it’s permanently changed my skin. When the light shines on my skin you can tell it’s a completely different texture. I have been using bio oil, as it is supposed to be good at healing new scars so I’m hoping they won’t be too obvious once they’ve healed. I am feeling so full of regret for ever thinking about doing this. If anyone was to ask me I’d say unless the problem you have really bothers you and isn’t a normal part of the aging process then just leave it alone. I’m so fearful that I’ve ruined my neck and it’s going to look worse and more noticeable than it did before. It’s also extremely itchy right now too which is making me very aware of it all the time.
With regards to the indentations/pitting you experienced (now that this thread is 4 months old) how well did you heal and are you happy with the results? Would you recommend the treatment to others? X

Also worth a mention in case anyone else is looking for information or advice... my friend had her eyelids and crows feet done and experienced the same pitting that you’ve said you had. She was a little worried but hers did heal after around 4-6 weeks and she’s now very happy with the results. X

There's not much out there about plasma pen treatments, so I searched on Mumsnet. Yours is the only thread I can see.

I had this treatment at the beginning of April to a crease mark between my eyebrows. I still have the scars/pitting from where the pen was used. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Hi ladies, well I had the plasma pen for my crows feet, all the way done my cheeks to my mouth both sides, and then all around my lips for an apparent lip pop.
Did everything I was advised too do in taking care of the scabs ECT.
10 months on I have holes/ piting for every dot she did with the pen probably over thousand off them scattered all over my face.
Due to the scarring around my eyes I have htperpigmentation on the scarring so now I look like I have black eyes.
I have tried chemical peels which has cost me 300 quid jus to reduce the pigmentation too no avail.
The scarring around my eyes is so noticeable it has knocked my confidence by miles.
This pen needs banning. My face was better before I had it done I'm so angry and frustrated.
If anyone knows of any treatments to reduce scarring please let me know I beg.
I so want to sue the woman as I'm now scarred for life.

I am on day 6 after getting plasma done on my upper eye lids, they also did a large triangle shape above both my brows to help lift the eyelids. I did have swelling the first couple of days but that is mostly gone now and I felt that it was healing well. The majority of the scabs have come off, I don’t seem to have much redness but I have the slight indents where all the dots were, looks like a golf ball. I know it’s early and maybe this is normal but they never mentioned this would happen. I’m so worried this is permanent. As far as noticing any difference in my hooded eyelids, they are maybe slightly better but no significant difference yet.

Hi i had fibroblast 18 months ago have been left with scars like lines around my eyes you can see the indents when the pen went in. I will be left with these for the rest of my life. In the process of getting my money back and getting legal advice.

I asked for the woman's insurance details and she blocked without a reply so now I'm left wondering how to go around this.
I too have lines around my eyes where the pen had burnt holes in my skin I'm stuck for life anybody have any advice please

I looked into this about 18 months ago but the reviews looked awful, then a friend from uni did a course ( couple of days) and he now offers this treatment ... he is not medically trained or a beauty therapist!

I am a doctor and carry out this treatment myself. When plasma pen treatment first came out it was promoted to make the 'holes' fairly deep and aggressive to achieve maximum tightening. This protocol has now changed to a much more gentle approach. It is important to check who carries out this treatment - no medic stay away.
In terms of scars once they occur it is very important to use factor 50 sunscreen every day for at least 3 months post procedure. By then the dots should start to fade. Even though it might sound odd to some people I would suggest a second treatment carried out on a very light setting. This will help with disguising the scars.

I had this treatment done 6 days ago and am horrified at what I'm seeing as there are dots/indentations at every point the plasma pen was used. The doctor who performed the procedure says "give it time, the redness will fade" but seems to be specifically not addressing the indentations in my skin. Has anyone had any luck with a treatment to eliminate these indentations left behind? I am just beside myself and fear I've ruined my skin. I would never ever recommend this treatment.

@beaut23 Please tell me your indentations are gone. I had my the procedure done for the bags under my eyes...today is day 6 and im terrified that im stuck with golf ball texture bags under my eyes

I too posted on day 6 and was horrified at the indentations that were left. I had my upper eyelids done and they also did triangles above my brows.

I'm now around 11 and a half weeks post procedure and although I will say it has improved, there are still indents and the skin has an uneven crepey texture, especially the eyelids. One side was alway worse than the other so I'm hoping it is just taking longer to heal, I'm not convinced it will ever fully smooth out again though. I did speak to the salon around day 6 and then had a check up at week 6, was assured that it was "normal" although everyone heals differently. I was never warned before that there would be indents though, I was expecting just to have red new skin until it healed. I have another check up in a couple of weeks so will see what the salon says.

As far as results, there is a very slight improvement in my hooded eyelids but to be honest I don't even care or notice as I'm always just checking and hoping that the texture and indents are improving.

I find it hard to believe that this is the normal outcome for this treatment and if it is then what is the point, it's swapping one issues for another and the healing time is long. There is definitely not enough information out there about it, looking back now any before and after photos I've seen are usually straight after the treatment so you don't get to see how it heals post treatment.

Hopefully someone who's further along the journey post treatment may have more of a positive update on the healing process.

I was also not informed about the indentations and my procedure was done by a qualified GP who did the procedure herself...

@Monique21864 I know how you feel, I was exactly the same. Try not to worry too much, I have seen an improvement compared to what it was initially but it's taken time unfortunately. I'm hoping it continues to improve.

Hopefully your GP will be able to offer useful advice at your follow up and address your concerns.

I will see what the salon says in a couple of weeks when I have my 12ish week follow up.

@glloydsandiego sorry you are in the same boat too, I was told initially to just continue with spf 50 as the skin is new and so delicate. I will be asking at my 12 week follow up if there's anything else I can try now though

Thought I would give an update...its almost a month after I had the procedure done...and the indentations are still there. Trying to cover it up with concealer and foundation makes it even worse....I hate myself for getting this done.

You poor thing, be patient and I’m sure it will get better. You still have another eight weeks of healing to go until you are at the three month mark 💐

After that, if you still have the indents, I would go to a private dermatologist - there will be options to make it better - may not be cheap, but there will certainly be things you can do to help this.

I had a follow up last week at 13 weeks post treatment. The indents have improved since I saw them at 6 weeks so they didn't have much to say apart from give it more time and maybe try massaging a facial oil to the patches above my eyes. They said not to get anything harsh done like chemical peels, light therapy etc for another 3 months. I think I will try a consultation at a dermatologist or somewhere more qualified in non invasive procedures to see what they might suggest.
