Black dress for wedding guest

I've got a wedding early March and have a gorgeous black dress I'd like to wear but not sure if it's acceptable or how to accessorise without buying new shoes, bag & accessories! It's very plain fitted (think classic lbd below the knee) . Would leopard print heels and red bag/funky necklace be really dated? Any other suggestions?

If it's a more traditional wedding then no to black. If it's registry and pub on the cheap type thing then I'm sure you will be fine in black.

No black to a wedding! You'll jinx it!

Oh bugger really?! Slopes off to contemplate lack of funds and outfit confused

We’ve been to quite a number of weddings in the last couple of years and plenty of women wear black dresses and add colourful accessories.
Men wear dark suits so why should we be restricted by the colours we wear.

Honestly?

Wear it.

No one cares as long as you aren’t wearing a black veil with it.

Funk it up with your heels and bright jewellery and makeup.

Don't be daft! Everyone knows it's pearls that jinx a wedding wink

Wear it OP. With some colourful accessories it will be fine.

I wore a black jumpsuit to a wedding last year

Don't see the big deal

I think black is fine, but go with bright accessories to avoid looking either funerial or as though you've just stopped by on your way home from the office.

Black is fine if you dress it up with coloured accessories.

Black is grand.
I wore black as mother of the groom tho I did funk it up with colour. Looked great.

Spam88 Thu 24-Jan-19 10:52:04

I don't think black or animal print are wedding appropriate 😬

NottonightJosepheen Thu 24-Jan-19 10:54:48

Never heard of the taboo for wearing black at a wedding.

The dress sounds lovely. Ditto the shoes.

Plenty of men wear black suits, don't they?

WitchDancer Thu 24-Jan-19 10:58:32

I always thought it was wearing green at a wedding that was unlucky. I think the days of particular colours are over - black is fine as long as you funk it up

SleepingStandingUp Thu 24-Jan-19 11:00:16

Yeah OP wear green instead!!

Seriously though, what kind of wedding and how do you know the couple?

BuffaloCauliflower Thu 24-Jan-19 11:03:39

Black at a wedding means you disapprove of the marriage.

cathyandclare Thu 24-Jan-19 11:07:47

I think black's fine if brightened up with a colour. On mumsnet I've read:

No green-unlucky
No black- unlucky/rude
No navy- too close to black
No cream/white/beige/nude- too bridal
No pale pink/pastels- too bridesmaidy
No red- too attention seeking
No animal prints- inappropriate

Please add any if I've missed a fashion clanger. It's madness!

SleepingStandingUp Thu 24-Jan-19 11:08:01

Or that you really like black dresses

beachyhead Thu 24-Jan-19 11:10:49

Have you got a pale coat or jacket you could wear, particularly in the church?

letsdolunch321 Thu 24-Jan-19 11:12:43

You like the dress, it makes you feel good ..... WEAR IT.

Add colourful accessories and have a great time 😁

Loyaultemelie Thu 24-Jan-19 12:22:10

My dm wore a black dress with a red wrap and shoes to my (winter) wedding and looked fab!

OnlyTheDepthVaries Thu 24-Jan-19 12:26:06

I wore a posh black suit to a wedding 22 years ago and I was the bride! Still married and happy!
Do it - I love black!

Elledorado Thu 24-Jan-19 12:48:37

How ridiculous to all of the above. It's 2019?! The only thing you cant wear to a wedding is a bridal gown unless you're the bride.

Racecardriver Thu 24-Jan-19 12:50:11

Never ever wear leopard print with read. Leopard print is only back in an ironic way like boot cut jeans.
