Morning all! Come and join the gorgeously-scented chat!

Today I smell of lavender, woodsmoke and cinnamon biscuits, in Another Kiss By The Fireside.

I cannot believe we're on thread 18, btw. Where are Sock and Blue? I've not seen them for ages.

Thanks for the thread fennel

Anyone interested in the new beauty pie perfumes? I decided, in a moment of clarity and restraint, I couldn't justify the subscription to try some smells I might not like.

Hi! Thanks for the new thread. I am in MMM Fireplace, with a stinking cold. BLEURGH.

Thank you Fennel. SotD is Ginsberg is God. Smells of old paper, smoke and church - burning hymn books?

Pure Distance White is my perfume today. I get spicy oranges with cinnamon in this. None of which is listed. But it’s warming and uplifting on another damn murky day with low light - so depressing.
Going back to your question from yesterday I would pick Clinique for Calyx ( summer ) and Wrappings ( winter).Or alternatively Annick Goutal for so many stunning perfumes. Mfk was a brief but fleeting passion.

Running in to placemark.

Am in Samsara PP as usual at the moment Grin

Interesting discussion at the end of the last thread- I am like MrsR8 and am probably far too limited in my "likes". I have, on last count, about 150 UNTRIED samples. I order them, and then think "what if I try this today and it's a really shit day- the perfume will be ruined forever!!!"

I am also, as many of you know (or have guessed) a bit meh about most niche. It may be akin to blasphemy but very very few IMO rate the ££££s or the hype (TF looking atcha with your generic neroli squirts) I'm going to say something now which will probably blacklist me forever from you, but I find 4160s smell too homemade by and large. To me, they just smell like somebody tipped a load of ingredients -probably 5 too many, in a pot and hoped for the best. I get the brand, I get the ethos, I get the lovely people, I get that you all love them, but I don't get the actual SMELL of them! Grin

But if I had to choose one house, then based on my Dioressence, Diorella, MIss Dior, Diorama bladebla collection, I'd say Dior. OLD Dior clearly! I probably couldn't really pick a house, I'd have to pick a period. Or a type. Anything that says: galbanum, green, chypre, aldehydes has me blind ordering. Anything with even a hint of oud (or increasingly peach) has me heaving.

I'll get my coat shall I? Grin

Another thread! Yay! (its 3 on yet another name change, btw).

I'm in Burberry Woman (the original one) today. Comforting woods, peach & vanilla.

I'm a complete perfume-whore, tbh, Sud. I tend towards blousy florals, fruity chypres and sweet, creamy gourmands (possibly even the occasional Pink Minger Grin). Hate to say it , but my tastes lean very 'girly', which sets me apart from most serious perfumistas, I think. BUT I am up for trying most things and often surprise myself with the things I sniff and end up loving. I'll try pretty much anything, really. I just love perfume!

I know what you mean about 4160T, btw Grin, although I do rate them. I tend to wear them mostly at home for that reason. They're quite 'cosy', homely fragrances to me. I'm often to be found spritzing on a bit of Tarts Knicker Drawer or Sexiest Scent after a shower in the evening, but rarely to work or out in the evening.

D'you know what, I was thinking exactly the same about 4160 today and the 'homemadeness' of them. For me, that's a positive (generally), however I have had my doubts at times around the prolificness of the brand (probably not a word) and my occasional feeling that 'everything that gets made gets sold'. As a fan, I love that there's always something new, but I do wonder whether less might be more sometimes.

God I probably sound like a smug twat and I really REALLY hope Sarah isn't reading this because those 4160s that I love, I really, really love, honest! And the ethos/philosophy of the brand makes me feel all fuzzy. But I don't think, when it comes to the crunch, I'd pick them as my 'always and forever' house. I think that would have to be Tauer, just because a solid 90% of what he produces blows my tiny mind every time I wear it. But, you know, am quite fond of SJP Lovely too Wink

I did think that a good alternative title for a new thread might be 'The heart wants what the heart wants...' which I hope would cover all the Bad Things we do and all of our idiosyncratic, personal tastes. No one ever has to get their coat, imo!

Hello! I used to post on perfume threads about, oh, a million years ago. I gave up wearing perfume for ages (DH hates it ) but recently started wearing my samples again when he's out. Today it's Knize Ten, a scent I love so much. Makes me feel like Lauren Bacall. I'm down to my last few drops and contemplating buying more. Has anybody bought from Scent Samples? Are they kosher?

I thought I was the only person who didn't rate 2160Tuesdays. My sister bought me a gift box of samples a couple of years ago and they're all a bit, yeah, right, whatever. So samey and so many ingredients they don't smell of anything in particular. I liked Sunshine and Pancakes - a nice Saturday morning scent. But that's pretty much the only one.

If all my scents were washed away by a freak wave on a desert island the one I'd try to save would be Chamade by Guerlain.

Ha, mrsr, I adore Dark Heart and think it's a very clever bit of perfumery.

On the other hand, I find the popularity of Sunshine and Pancakes and Sexiest Scent totally baffling, they're just so... nothingy.

'orses fer courses, innit? Grin

I can't do a single house . If I had to, and if I could have masculines and feminines, it would be Guerlain.

I love 4160Ts for lots of reasons including their business ethics and their great role as educators. Getting to try lots of stuff in affordable quantities has really helped me learn.

Not sure there are that many utter masterpieces out there?

MrsLucas · 08/11/2018 18:43

Correction - there may be loads. I have not found that many out and out completely besotted loves (yet).

SheHasNotions · 08/11/2018 18:49

Couldn’t choose a single house, although Dior, YSL and Guerlain all have various perfumes I’d be very sad without. Oh, and Givenchy. See...can’t choose one!

I do tend to like everything Sophia Grojsman ever turned her hand to.

Haven’t seriously delved into niche perfumery yet, but I no doubt will along my perfume journey of Doing Bad Things Grin.

No SOTE yet, but I’m leaning towards Samsara after a bath.
