Pixie cut yes or not?

I have been wanting to have it cut for ages but too scared to try it.
I'm mid 20s, oval/longish face shape, and what I think is a big nose.

Should I go for it?

Did this last year for the first time..

Pros - it's fun, takes less time to dry, less products and if you don't like it it will grow..

Cons - depending on your hair it may need more regular cuts which can be pain.. I went from trims whenever.. every few months or so to needing a trim every 4-6 weeks - that said I went to a barbers which was excellent and cheap!

I have a long face and long nose.... and the MOST annoying hair if I try to grow it. I've spent the last year growing out a pixie (just because I was bored of it), and I'm just off to the hairdresser now to get it cut off!

It's SO much easier to look after (for me - even when my hair is long I still have to wash and dry every day). BUT - if you're used to doing lots of things with your hair, it can get a bit samey - you can do a bit with it, but not much.

Hair grows though - unless you're very attached to your long hair, I'd go for it. I fully admit I am very biased towards short hair though!

I had an asymmetrical pixie nearly 2 years ago.

Pros- quick to wash and style
Cons - had to style it. Couldn't just leave it natural. Needed product every day.
Hated not being able to the it back.
Growing out. I lasted 6 months. Fancied something different. 18 months and not eventoiching my shoulders. Lucky, got past the dodgy mullet looking stage pretty quick. But it was not a great look for the 2 months while it lasted.

I'm growing mine out and it's a pain.
It's ok in that you don't need to style it as much as Say mid-length hair but I couldn't was and go as my hair has a lot of curl in it. I also got fed of the 6 weekly trips to the hairdresser. Now I'm just letting it grow and I've had a couple of fringe trims in the 6 months or so since I've been growing it

Thanks, I usually keep my hair braided as my 1 y old loves pulling them, so haven't done mucb with it for ages.

I might start with a short bob and then see hownit goes, but the temptation to go really short is too strong.

Another reason I wanted to have a pixie is that my hair is soo thin on the top of my head

The only downside IMO is you do have to wash and style it every day. No just getting up and leaving the house if you want it to look good.

And you need a good hairdresser. Trim every 6 weeks.

I love having short hair. It looks so much better on me than long - I have a long face too.

You can mess about with colour too, and not worry about damage.

I love mine. Had a pixie cut for about 9 years, apart from a short spell when I started to grow it out... my ex had an affair and cited my short hair as one of the reasons . I LOVE it. No styling required. The downside is paying £20 every 5-6 weeks to have it cut.

I had a pixie cut once, it was an itch I wanted to scratch. Cons were I hated it once I'd had it done, so grew it out. Pros were my hair grows fast so it didn't take long till it was bob length.

Agree about the itch I'd like to scratch, and the hair will eventually grow again. Not sure what I'd do if it looked horrible though

My hair from wash through dry to style takes about 5 minutes

Its so easy

BUT i dont think ill ever grow it as growing it out would drive me made...so i think im stuck with it

I've grown it out a few times. You have to keep getting it cut to keep it looking ok

My last grow out was v pain free. I love my hairdresser... she's pretty amazing.

Facebook memories tells me I had mine cut into a pixie 5 years ago to the day.

I haven't looked back.

I do have a great hairdresser though, and book 6 weekly trims without fail.

I have had a long blonde pixie for about 2 years and I love it. It gets loads of really positive comments and today, even my male boss said “you’ve got really great hair” when I popped in to see him 😆

It’s easy to wash and style and looks so much healthier than longer hair.

I’ve had a pixie for most of my adult life. It defined me.

Completely loved it. Easy to maintain, but it does need a cut every 4 - 6 weeks. I always had so many compliments about my hair.

I’m now late 40’s and started to worry needing to colour it soon (I’m lucky - minimal grey), so I’ve been growing it out for the last 16 months. It’s just hit my shoulders.

Really - go for it! It’s such a liberating move. Give it another 6 months and I may be doing it again!

I’ve had a bob, then an asymmetric bob (which is still my favourite cut though my right ear used to get cold in winter!), then a crop and now it’s getting to my shoulders.

I loved having short hair but styling it needed work every day - more so than now as I can just put it up if it’s not all ready. I still had to straighten it as it would be sticking out in all directions (just my stupid hair) and it needed a lot of maintenance.

I’m growing it now as I haven’t had long hair for ages and just feel a bit severe with short hair. It does age me quite a lot I’ll be honest.

I think the problem is looking at beautiful actresses with picked and thinking that I will look as good. I might end up looking like my mom

You need the best hairdresser. I have had short hair off and on for 20+ years and most recently a year or so. Only found the right hairdresser in the last 6 months.
I love short hair. Short doesn’t have to be pixie either.

Definitely need to find a hairdresser who knows how to do short hair on women and also isn’t afraid of super short cuts - it makes all the difference. Goandplay is 100% correct.

As I got older, I found some hairdressers kept trying to give me softer cuts (I’m very tiny at just over 5ft with small features, so can take the severe look) and that just aged me.

As a mistake may take months of growth to correct, it is worth making sure that you have the right stylist.

I did this 2 years ago and frankly no-one could have talked me out of it. It was just something I had to do. I enjoyed the style for about 5/6 months then I wanted my old hair back. Fast forward to now and my hair has just touched my shoulders. It was the most agonising grow out ever. I have told my nearest and dearest to make sure to remind me of this should I ever make mention that I might go for a pixie cut again. Sure, hair grows......but in my case, just so effing slowly!

Pros: Feels really cool in the summer
Quick to wash and dry
Much easier to style
Doesn't get in the way
Easier to play around with daring hair colours
Feels really good, feels light, airy and freeing!

Cons: Takes a long time to grow out if you don't like it
Need to use products
Difficult to find a good hairdresser who is confident with short hair

Like previous posters mine was an itch I just had to scratch. Had it cut about a year ago and I love it. Short doesn't have to be a pixie, I've had short cuts I didn't like and some I love so don't rush to grow it out if you hate it, just try a different short style. At the moment mine is a messy pixie with an undercut and I absolutely love it. I also have a long face and a big nose and I think it suits me way more than my old flat long hair.

I was growing mine but I had to get my hair cut it was driving me batty .
Having it short meant I could colour (though I needed to dye it every 3 days when I used permenant dye ) and cut every 5 weeks.

Need to make more effort wearing a bit of make-up, earrings and keeping my brows strong enough ( ie pencil them in )

I use a semi-perm dye now which fades rather than a glaringly obvious root growth.

I have a oval face and high cheekbones so it did suit my face style.

It's longer layered now , so still easy enough to wash and style and I'm veering towards a red/auburn dye for autumn .

Go for it if you really want , but the "it's hair it'll grow back" is a pain in the bum to go through
