Never mind the (never ending summer) how does one look expensive in Autumn?

Followed the summer thread and really enjoyed it but now I want to get prepared for Autumn.

I love the idea of swanning about in a Burberry type mac but neither the style nor the colour suits me.

How can I look effortless throughout Autumn especially when it's days of wet weather?

I don't think I do look particularly expensive in autumn (or any other time), but if I wanted to, I think my first priority would be to get a really nice pair of chestnut brown boots. Spend a bit on those and they'll make anything else you wear with them (unless it's literally made out of shiny snaggy nylon and falling apart) look good. I think that colour would go just as well with black and blue as with brown too. I quite Burberry type trenches as well but they don't have to be long or cream. I've got a short black one and a longer sort of cinnamony coloured one, which I always feel quite smart in.

I bought a Burberry Daylesmoore trench-style wool coat last year and it changed my wardrobe! But it's a petite cut and the first I've found that suited me.

Autumn for me is all about the footwear. I wear a lot of dark wash jeans/lace up tan brogue ankle boots/thin but nice quality jumpers in block colours. Over the knee black biker boots and my AllSaints black leather Cargo and Bales jackets always come out. I mostly stick to jewel tones. I don't know if I look expensive but I look and feel more like myself than I do in my current getup of cheap patterned floaty trousers, vests and Saltwaters!

I never look expensive (far too scruffy) but Autumn is my favourite.

This year I've bought a couple of pairs of straight Levi jeans, dark blue and grey, and plan to see how I get on with them as an alternative to black skinnies (which I'm bored to tears of). Will wear them with ankle boots and a leather jacket. I'm debating splurging on an All Saints jacket, if I can find one without orangutan arms.

I need a new pair of flat knee length boots, lady year I couldn't find anything I liked. Chestnut over black?

What sort of coat do you wear and look stylish when it's constantly peeing down?

I just wear a bright yellow Joules waterproof or my Diesel parka. It is very hard to find a stylish waterproof.

I'm still on the summer thread but half an eye on Autumn. Good boots and bag/so certainly. I actually saw a really nice trench style long jacket in M&S yesterday which I'm going to take a closer look at as I was just whizzing through.

I need a mid length cloth coat this year as I only have a parka and padded jackets which while practical are not elegant.

Need good knitwear as I've just got rid of old bobbly jumpers bar a couple for slouching/doing chores.

I need some tan ankle boots preferably with a small heel. Could do with some more Uniqlo merino sweaters too.

This is lovely but will wait for a better price www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-3d-extra-fine-merino-ribbed-long-sleeve-dress-412148.html then kick myself if my size goes out of stock obviously!

Also strangely fancing some moss green pointy shoes that I’ve dreamt up inside my head lol.

On the summer thread I mentioned these Chelsea boots from clarks. Well I bought then and they're lovely. Very comfortable and pretty stylish for a practical flat boot.
www.clarks.co.uk/c/Taylor-Shine/p/26118631

There aren't many sizes left as they're last year's but they are doing practically the same boot by another name this year...
www.clarks.co.uk/c/Netley-Ella/p/26138130

They look different on the pictures but I looked at them in store today and the only difference is a slightly darker colour. More conker than tan.
I'm hoping they will be my school run go to of choice come autumn. I really want to get a decent weather proof coat this year too. Hilfiger did some gorgeous ones last year but thE one I liked was £350.

Anyone buy from woolovers? I haven't for years so not sure if the quality is still good. I used to like that they do classic styles. I guess my style is preppy too, I feel very uncomfortable about frills, add-ons, lace, dipped hems, practically any detail unless it's subtle. An interesting button is about the limit for me!

A few years ago I saw a lady wearing a pair of Church's boots. She looked lovely you could tell those boots were very well made. Some of the boots on the high street look a bit tacky these days I found it hard last year to find a decent leather pair that looked well made.

These are the church's

I really want boots this year.
I want a pair to go with floaty midi dress that suit stumpy legs with chunky calves.
Black

My Red magazine that’s just arrived seems keen on paper bag wide leg trousers and blazers. Ribbed knits and belted coats. Long printed dresses, leather midi skirts, and a luxe hoodie are also recommended. Shoes are flat, brogues, trainers or pumps. Slip on backless for evenings. Boots are whatever you fancy! Plenty to choose from that’s wearable I think.

The stiletto heel wrap courts are way better from M&S. The above recommendation is an ugly shoe.

I love the autumn and I am autumn colour spectrum too and will be following with great interest. I have lost 35lb since the start of the year and need a whole new wardrobe:)
I’m a huge fan of tan leather and love jeans and soft jumpers and cardigans . Hoping to get something cashmere if I can as a ‘ well done ‘ to myself.

Exciting times for you speckled! Well done on your weight loss I bet you can't wait to get togged up in your new Autumn wardrobe!

I am usually a skinny jeans leather boots cashmere jumper a coat and scarf person. Not sure I look very expensive though Hmm

Thank you QO I’m really looking forward to it .
Your look sounds perfect to me . I love scarves too and have far too many ! I think they really set off an outfit or lift a simple top .
Can I pick your brains on a good cashmere brand please ?

Depends where you live. If in countryside a pair of nice fairfax and favour boots. A good quality pair of dark blue (indigo) jeans, leather belt, crisp white shirt with vest or long sleeve t shirt underneath. Chunky knit cardigan coat. Although that’s no good if it rains granted

I've just bought this trench in the sale. Fantastic quality, heavy fabric and slightly darker than the pic.

Speckled I bought my cashmere from Pure Collection always in the sale and for some great bargains but their 'sale' prices don't seem to be much of a bargain anymore. I have 3 M&S cashmere jumpers and they've worn really well considering they are in constant rotation year round unless it's like the Sahara outside!

I have the oversized slouchy type, tried finding you a link but they're not on the website now. Got them again in the sale. I wash mine in the machine Confused but they have never bobbled.

Ploppy I like the fairfax boots but I couldn't get them past my calves and I have fairly slim legs!

I like that Midlife, I don't seem to suit trench coats I think it's because I was graced with large norks so I look a bit like Brenda Blethen in Vera!

Ooh nice trench Midlife!

Another one liking the Red list especially as I already have two leather/pleather midis.

@QueenOfIce 32gg here and it works for me - small waist, big bum, 12 is a good fit.
