I’m really struggling for ideas to suit my shape and style.

Ideally would like a work wardrobe, home wardrobe and holiday wardrobe!

Ooh! I will. Mine is now less capsule wardrobe and more chuffing big horse-pill wardrobe, but I still stick to the principles.

Where have you started?

I’m literally open to chucking 90% of the stuff I own out - but need to dress for my shape and that’s the bit I struggle with!

Do you know what colours suit you?
Once you do then it's easier to put together neutral staples with your best colours as accents.
Eg for me I would have a wardrobe of black/charcoal grey and then add white and then red/hot pink/turquoise items.
So black/grey skirt/trousers in the cut that suits me, with a white top and a coloured top, again making nag sure it's the top style which is the right type eg I can wear v-necks, boats, but never crews or polls.

I'd love to do this. Need to get back to pre pregnancy weight first though.

Agree with others about sticking to a colour palette. I largely wear black/navy, grey/charcoal, cream/white, olive, muted pinks and teal. The occasional bit of chartreuse.
My work wear capsule consists of cigarette pants, shirts, blouses, skinny cashmere/merino sweaters, cropped blazer, trench, brogues and block heeled court shoes.
My weekend capsule consists of skinny/girlfriend jeans, khakis, Ts, stripe tops, skinny cashmere/merino, jersey/cotton midi dresses, khaki jacket, denim jacket,
Supergas/converse, heeled ankle boots, and block heeled sandals
I don’t go out a lot so have only a small capsule which consists of a floral midi dress for weddings/anniversaries/parties, bolero cardi, skater dresses (worn with tights), cami tops (work with jeans), animal print heels and pointed flats.

I tend to stick to black, grey, navy, red and white.
On the principal that everything goes together.
I am a sucker for a dress with pockets in any print though 🤔

Me too - navy, charcoal, white, with some light blue/deep red thrown in for good measure.

Op - what are your colours/shape/preferences?

I like black/grey over navy generally. Not really a fan of bright colours like green/blues/pinks.

I generally tend to wear skinny fit jeans/trousers with ballet flats for work, uggs or converse for casual and either a tee shirt or a fitted shirt/top for work in a muted colour. Love a blazer! Also like fabrics like fake silk etc!

I love the big mid length skirts in coast for example and feel like they look good for occasions... but not sure I’d pull it off day to day.

Not really sure on colours - I’m very fair, dyed ginger hair (naturally a mid brown) with brown/hazel eyes and freckles.
Probably a bit heavier than I’d like, and maybe a slight pear shape.

Absolutely clueless as you can tell!

The capsule wardrobe a PP mentioned sounds perfect!!

Might be worth booking a personal stylist session with John Lewis as they'll suggest styles which suit your body shape. There isn't an obligation to buy but it'll give you lots of ideas on what suits your body shape.

@bobbiepin - thank you!
I’m a high street shopper - Topshop, Next, M&S, Boden, Uniqlo, Jigsaw, Whistles etc...

I tend to spend a bit more on accessories which I think can really lift a capsule wardrobe. I have a small collection of bags from APC, Longchamp, Anya Hindmarch and hill and friends. A nice Mondaine watch with a red leather strap. A couple of plain scarves and some earrings from Stella and Dot.

Interesting, I've never normally been one for accessories. I wear the same jewellery and things like watches and scarves never occur to me, and now I have a young baby it's just more to get tugged at or sicked on. I have started buying some lovely bags and investing a little more in them. Of course that's pointless now everything goes in the change bag!

I love bags, and scarves but always feel like a small child playing dress up in other accessories.

Thanks for the JL tip!
