Feel like I'm nearly done with Bum...

Anyone else follow doesmybumlook40 and feel that the last few weeks/months in particular have just descended into some sort of manic, Davina McCall circa 1998ish, QVC channel?

Avon was on the market stall today - 3 for a pound, lovely and shiny take one home for your mother love. Three for a pound.

Free lipstick with that?

Everything with her is an advert now. Barely any non-PR/sales content.

Endless hyper vocal modulation on stories, actual screeching a lot of the time - who can put up with that?

And please stop fingering your eyes - that's not going to improve your eczema.

And the psychological issue with jeans, particularly skinny jeans.

The big dresses and skirts - I know all the other insta-mental mums are plugging these endlessly too - why?

Big dresses on tiny women.

BoHo will not make you look young - although it will make you look as though you work in a charity shop and get first dibs on the donations - if that's what you want to look like.

Bum is evolving a new enhanced 'fake forgetfullness' thing on stories which enables her to fill endless seconds restarting the same sentence without ever getting to the end or actual saying anything anyway other than, where are my sunglasses and aren't other people annoying and look at my spot, or I'm not wearing makeup, look at my eczema, watch me poke around my eyes with a long nail... yeuuch!!!

I don't know whether to feel sorry for one of the richest women on instagram that it has all descended to this or disappointed in myself for continuing to watch

Mind you, it could be going car crash, and I suppose that's worth watching for - the first instagrammed breakdown... they'd probably fake one anyway just for the stats..

That's another annoying thing.. trying to get people to contact them to boost the 'follower engagement' stats...

What's your fave lippy? message me now

Do you prefer this one or that one? message me now

Like Pavlov's dogs

Can anyone remember where I left my keys - message me now

I don't watch her on Instagram, but I feel pretty much the same about the blog.

'This isn't sponsored content. I mean, they've given me a free shopping experience and a ton of free clothes, but I would have totally written this puff piece about them if they hadn't. Totally.'

Hmm Ok then.

Fururistic, everything you have written is really quite mean, however, I agree with you 100%. Cannot tolerate her stories.

I know it's mean. I've followed her for years too. She's just been getting more and more mental lately. I keep hoping she'll revert to the reasonably classically styled 'ordinary'ish, very rich, person she used to be...

But I think I'll be waiting in vain, which like Bob Marley, I don't want to do.

I sit there watching the stories and I think, I would be fecking mental if you did this in the house with me...

I've never seen anyone with an attention disorder on speed but in my imagination, that's what it would be like... imagine being in the car with her or going round the supermarket.

The speed at which she must select random items from the shelves, flinging them in the trolly and whirling down to the checkout with a voluminous skirt dragging a chocolate egg display, and a tinned petfood pyramid behind her.

Still, at least it saves on sweeping the floors.

But nobody's forcing you to read it? I occasionally read Garance Dore that's about it. It's a business all she cares about is the number of followers growing so she gets her freebies.

It is the Davina school of presenting I think, but even Davina doesn't do that stuff anymore.
It's just not age appropriate.
It's like watching desperation, or perhaps it's some kind of double-bluff and being the antithesis of 'cool', being like a granny trying to be hip, is somehow 'cool'. I don't know - it all comes across a bit like dad-dancing - it's all just wrong. Have the dignity of your age.

I watch Chloe too and she can be a bit up and down but overall I prefer her. She has a consistent style: jeans and blazers and shirts/bretons which comes through even though she often plugs big dresses. But yeah, it's all very expensive but she's better for practical ideas with jeans that a normal person could find more cheaply and wear in real life.

She has a nice vocal tone which although it's sometimes too quiet, is never, ever painful.

I've had to jump and turn the volume off on Bum a number of times because of the shrieks. I mean I'm not 10 so don't squawk at me like that!

LibertyLondonGirl has a gorgeous voice. Very soothing. She's always showing gifts and selling but it's very direct and up-front and the dogs are nice.

Haha, Op if you wrote a blog I'd read it.

She lost all credibility with me the day the paid partnership with the Daily Mail appeared.

Oh god I can’t stand her now, haven’t for along time. However I LOVE Erica Davies

I think it’s really unfair to bring DMBL40’s financial circumstances (or anyone else’s for that matter).

However, I do agree that Kat’s appeal is falling. Too many promotions, too many long sleeve, billowing maxi dresses. Recently she promoted some skin care brand and another skin care brand a few days later. No credibility. Bring back the days when she researched a certain item for weeks and shopped the high street. Though we’ll done to her for clearly listing what she’s gifted.

Chloelovestoshop is quite false imo - she’s gifted so much and is so set on not being transparent about it. She sneaks in the odd #gift but mostly just a thanks to xx for sending. Funny, I thought she had flawless skin but I think she mostly uses filters and her skin is not so perfect. Why bother?

The Fashion Bug Blog seems lovely, very aspirational though!

She needs to stop talking about her children on insta.

And honestly she is making £££ from it but the last time I mentioned that on here she got pretty upset.

I’ve ‘known’ Kat online for years and years, we used to get on very well and I liked both her writing style and sense of style. I have no issue with her having a wealthy husband and I’m pleased she’s found a career that works around her kids given the long hours he works.

All that said, I stopped reading her blog a long time ago. She’s become a caricature of herself and it’s a shame, there’s no authenticity there any more.

I've long stopped following any bloggers or people with fake lives pitching freebies at us. What's the point? The only one I've stayed with is Jessica Stein aka tuula vintage as she never really did that and now is a fulltime mum to a baby she isn't exploiting.

I don't know anything about the young vloggers and influencers with millions of followers but I feel the whole middle class/middle aged influencer/instagram 'business' is going to implode very, very soon.

It's fairly incestuous with the same swathes of followers following the same grammers.

Sooner or later the fashion/lifestyle brands will conclude that the return is falling off and giving freebies to loads of grammers is just like spreading your jam really, really thinly - when maybe a full-page advert in Metro with 10% off will hit the same market more effectively.

Cut out the middle women so to speak.

The cross-pollination of followers and boosting of each other's followings/stats is grim stuff.

Makes followers feel like lifeless crops to be harvested.

Your instagram 'feed' starts to become literally that - we're like cows trapped in the stalls, jigging up and down on shit-covered floors waiting to be milked, sucking desperately on the milk teats of 'better' lives.

Still, look on the bright side eh... ;-)

I can't really relate to Kat Farmer so unfollowed her. She talks so fast and all the mannerisms were distracting. She has a completely different figure to me so the clothes she wears wouldn't suit me. Also, she can afford to wear designer clothes so can't get any fashion tips there either. I ended up thinking how wealthy she was all the time, with all her clothes, holidays, taking kids out all the time so can't relate to the lifestyle . Does fashion blogging really pay that much or she must have a very wealthy husband!

BangingOn · 27/05/2018 08:55

I think she does well from the Blogging but her husband is a very high earner.

Op you say you think the whole thing will implode very soon but dmbl40 has 84,000 followers, which is about 10,000 more than when the bloggers and brands thread on here recently talked about her. It seems that these bloggers are gaining followers very quickly rather than losing them

I don't give anyone who is signed to Gleam. Futures the time of day. And it's a long list of bloggers and vloggers. This is their MO - #ad #ad #ad, ghostwrite a book, appear in the Mail, job done.

I think she just needs to tone it back a bit - she’s channelling an extreme Trinny Woodall on Insta stories and it’s starting to come across as a bit put on.
