And it’s fine! Shock

I wouldn’t believe me either if I saw this post 6 months ago. And no I’m not selling anything either. Grin

All my life I’ve had to wash my hair daily. It was greasy by the end of every day and my scalp would drive me insane with itchiness. Around 4ish months ago I noticed it wasn’t as greasy every day and I started leaving it an extra day and then an extra day until I was managing a week without washing and no itchiness. None at all. I last washed it on the 12th of May and today it started feeling greasy the way it used to on day two when I was washing daily. I am in shock. I never ever thought I could get a fortnight out of my hair. I used to think my aunt was lying when she said she only washed hers once a week. The only change I can think of causing it is achange of shampoo. I now use Cien tea tree shampoo from Lidl. It’s very cheap and now a bottle is lasting forever Grin however I can’t remember when I started using it and if it coincides with new hair behaviour. I’m 31. Could this be an age/hormonal thing? My diet hasn’t changed.

I've always wanted to try this. May I ask what your hair is like - length, texture, volume, colour? Trying to work out whether it would be worth trying it myself or doomed to failure.

... also, if not a strange question, are you washing it in hard or soft water? Mine will go longer between washes in hard water.

I've only ever washed my hair once a week. However it is thick and quite dry. I only wash it to get it under control again (it gets a bit wiry and frizzy).

I haven't washed mine for 10 days because I've been ill and it's been disgusting for days. I'd love for it to last longer

Yes to the hard water thing! I miss living up north, my hair is so shit now.

I think my water is soft water. I don’t get limescale in my toilet or round the taps.

My hair is long, brown, highlighted (although hasn’t been done in 9 months.) it’s quite wavy and fluffy if left to dry naturally. I have lots of hair but it’s not massively thick so I can manage it okay.

Thanks red. When I had PND I would go for several days without washing. Maybe 4/5 days and my hair was like an like slick. It wasn’t pleasant.

Did I get the hard/soft thing the wrong way round? I think I did. In that case, my hair is better in soft water. Sorry!

Oh maybe I’ve got the water type wrong! How could I check my water type?

Can you post a picture of the top of your head please @ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo? I'm intrigued. And does it smell? If I've gone without washing hair for more than 3 days I notice a smell if I smell my hands after touching my scalp.

I only wash my hair once a week. But then I have long thick hair. It takes a while to wash it so I really wouldn't to wash it more often.

hopefully that photo is visible.

I can smell a very slight smell of greasy hair when I rub my scalp. Not as much as it used to smell when I went a couple of days without washing it.

Hard water = limescale
Soft water = no limescale

If your kettle has a white-coated element, you live in a hard water area Grin.

I have lived in both, and prefer soft water in every way - except for washing my hair.

OP, your hair looks quite thick in that photo.

You know it probably is thick, I’m always thinking my hair isn’t that thick because my sisters is very thick and so she was always lamenting how lucky I was not to have her thick hair.

Yes, I think mine is too fine to go more than 2 days, 3 days at an absolute stretch (or in hard water) without a wash.

I wash my hair every 5-7 days, it is starting to get greasy then.
My mum went to one of those Irish boarding schools in the 50s, run by nuns, and they were allowed a bath and to wash their hair once a term!
She said they always had such lovely glossy hair.
(I’ll take her word for it, boak Grin)

When my friend hit menopause she said her hair started going frizzy. When she stopped washing it so often she said it got better. I think she washes it about once a week.

My usually greasy-after-one-day hair stopped being greasy when I was pregnant. Any chance you could be and that's maybe playing a part?

The Cien tee tree shampoo is fab stuff isn’t it! I’ve recently discovered Lush solid shampoo and using that has meant my hair stays in reasonable condition for much longer than it used to. I still
wash it every other day though otherwise I find it smells unclean, even though it doesn’t look it 😬

Thanks barbara I might give that a go. I’m cautious of switching shampoos again in case I mess up whatever is happening right now.

I washed my hair the day before I went in for surgery last week. I've not been able to wash it yet and it feels horrible.
I usually wash it twice a week once after swimming and once after going In the steam room after the gym.
