Are maxi skirts dead?

Because I really want one this year! I always struggle with what to wear in summer (carrying a bit too much weight and don't like sleeveless) and I am very sure that this is exactly what I should be wearing this year. I have seen lots of people around looking lovely in jersey maxi skirts with t-shirts, nice and casual but not scruffy. But I can't find any in the shops!

So, are they done, and if not, has anyone seen a nice (not too expensive, preferably available in petite) one?

I actually bought a lovely one off eBay last year, will see if I can find it

Ollivander84 · 23/04/2018 14:30

They do it in black and a few other colours

Are maxi skirts dead?
Sunshineworshipper · 23/04/2018 15:40

No definitely not. I just bought a maxi dress . H&m etc still selling maxi skirts etc. They are a staple for me in summer as I'm not confident about my ghost legs

itallhappensforareason · 23/04/2018 15:43

ASOS is probably worth a look? I personally love maxi skirts/dresses.

mummabubs · 23/04/2018 15:59

I've been trying to find them too with limited luck! Not too keen on the Asos offerings so far and can't see many others. I'm always wary of buying clothes on eBay these days after a few bad experiences!

Imfinehowareyou · 23/04/2018 16:01

I saw some in monsoon today.

lemonsunshinecake · 23/04/2018 16:21

I love those eBay ones!

TheSecretMole · 23/04/2018 16:30

I’ve also seen some patterned ones in Monsoon a few days ago

BornInALighthouse · 23/04/2018 16:34

I saw a couple in Asda last week. Didn't look very closely but they seemed less floaty more tubular , though i could be wrong.

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 23/04/2018 16:37

loads of midi ones about. they look a bit more on point (should you care) and I think are more flattering tbh
depending on how tall you are they might be quite maxi....

Swearwolf · 23/04/2018 16:47

I'm not very tall, only 5'2", and trying to slim from a post-baby 12 to my usual 10. Saw a nice petite one on asos but it was sold out in both sizes.

What do people think of the boden Jersey ones? I've never bought from there before, but they do petite and the 25% off makes it just about affordable. But again, they're just plain black, I kind of had a stripey one in mind.

God, I hope not, I've just bought two!

Swearwolf · 23/04/2018 17:30

What did you buy trixie?

Swearwolf · 23/04/2018 17:32

That ebay one is lovely Olli, what is the quality like?

OP posts:
Swearwolf · 23/04/2018 17:33

I love the midi look Wind but it's definitely not for me, if I get one the right length I look really stumpy, if I get one that's too long it's still not long enough to look maxi length.

Look
Up Does My Bum look 40 on instagram- she’s always in a maxi skirt!!

For fellow shortarses I find searching for MIDI skirts online results in a nicely maxi length item

Ollivander84 · 23/04/2018 18:04

Decent, hangs nicely and not see through! I'm 5ft 10 and got extra tall which was perfect and true to size as well

Luckingfovely · 23/04/2018 18:26

Yes Mrs I was just coming on to say that most of the Inst bloggers live in maxi skirts!

Having said that - in my honest opinion - at 5.2 its extremely difficult to pull off a maxi skirt. Have you tried knee-length and a bit floaty, with a nice tshirt - not too exposing but at least you'll look like you have legs?

LemonysSnicket · 23/04/2018 18:40

They’re everywhere ... topshop, ASOS, primark .... I just bought one yesterday.

Midi skirts on the other hand...

PerfectlyPosed · 23/04/2018 18:52

I do hope not. I'm pregnant and plan to live in mine through the summer!

Diamonddealeroncemore · 23/04/2018 20:15

A bit expensive but Poetry have a lovely looking one in heavy jersey fabric, kind of fishtail shape. I really want one but I’m holding off till the sales because I’m a skinflint...

MrPotatosGirlfriend · 23/04/2018 20:33

I brought a maxi from Boden last year and was really pleased with it, washes well and is easy to throw on with a nice white tee and tan sandals

Swearwolf, I bought them from The Hunger Site - they have a lot of the flowy semi-hippy stuff I like. I bought two of these in 'Butterflies' and 'Earth & Sky' and then three of these in Ocean, Ruby, and Grape.

minipie · 23/04/2018 20:47

I've got a navy jersey Boden maxi and have lived in it the past week. They are perfect for when it's warm but you don't want to show your legs. Also I'm 5'3 and I think it makes me look taller. I can't remember if I have the petite size or regular... I also got a floaty viscose one from Phase 8 which I love but it's a bit dressier.

schnubbins · 24/04/2018 06:47

I got a lovely one at H and M at the weekend.I am 5ft 10 and look so much better in long skirts than short skirts .also because of my dodgy ankle.I have some that i have been wearing for years.
