Do you have white gold or platinum wedding rings and do you regret it?

I had yellow gold back when everyone had yellow gold, but really regret it now as everything else I wear is silver-coloured Confused.

I would like to replace them and ‘upgrade’ to platinum rings, but for the same size diamond as I’ve currently got-I think we’re looking at many many thousands!?

Does anyone have white gold jewellery and is happy with it? Or do you regret it as you have to get it rhodium plated?

I love yellow gold and actuallyvhad more trouble finding yellow wedding jewellery than white!

Could you reset the stones? A small independent maker jeweller could probably do this much cheaper than. Using new hardware

I didn’t know about the plating and was given a beautiful white gold band with diamonds. I thought I’d buggered it up when it started to go a weird colour - and was a bit annoyed that his meant I’d have to have it replated every so and often. I had been wearing it daily but don’t now.

Mine is platinum and I love it, but it's only 18mo ago.

Mine is white gold and I regret not shelling out for a more expensive metal as they desperately need replating due to discolouration but at the moment that's an expense I just can't justify.

I have a platinum engagement ring and a white gold wedding ring. I know people say that's a terrible combination and one will massively outlast the other etc.

I've been married 8 years so far and I'm one of those people who just leave my rings on and don't really take much care of them, they're both in great condition, one looks no better than the other and look like they've hit many more years in them yet!

I have platinum engagement and wedding rings, I've never regretted it.

If I were you, I too would find a jeweller to reset the stones in a new band - either white gold or platinum depending on your budget.

I have a platinum engagement ring and will also have a platinum wedding rings. I actually don’t find it a problem because to me silver/white gold/platinum is a ‘neutral’ and I’m happy to mix it with yellow gold and rose gold.

I went for platinum because I love its colour and because I didn’t want to bother with replating, and also because it’s a much harder material so it doesn’t tend to lose stones very often (or so I understand it - something about the molecular structure being much tighter or something, can’t remember what the jeweller actually said).

Mine's white gold and hasn't left my finger for 13 years. I don't give it a second thought tbh.

My engagement, wedding and eternity rings are all platinum. I don't wear gold jewellery only silver. Platinum is lovely.

Both my platinum engagement ring (9 years old) and wedding band (7 years old) have aged very well.

Highly recommend a trip to the jewellery quarter in Birmingham or Hatton Garden in London depending where you are from, for great prices.

You can get yellow gold rings rhodium plated, or palladium plated which apparently lasts longer. I've just done this and it looks great. I'm not sure how long it will last before I have to get them re-done. This could be a cheaper alternative than replacing or having your stones reset?

Thank you so much for the replies-I wonder how much getting my current one reset would cost?!

Those of you with white gold rings-how do you find they look if they haven’t been re-plated recently? Do they look particularly dull?

Any photos would be fab!!

Why don't you look at having your existing stones reset in platinum? Yo could either keep it the same design or have something different.

I have yellow gold too and often wish they were white gold or platinum. I just think it suits my skin tone better. I keep waiting for it to fall back out of fashion but it's not happening!

I have a white gold ring for my right hand and constantly having to have it re-plated every few years is a right pain. It never seems to last very long. On that basis I would definitely go with platinum over white gold.

I have white gold rings (plus eternity). I’ve had them replated a few times, but generally try and ignore the yellowing!
They’re 14 years old this year.
However, I did swap my wedding band (which had diamonds set in squares across 75% of the band) with a plain platinum band as I kept losing the original diamonds.
Love my platinum - it’s very simple and has aged really well.

My rings are both white gold as yellow gold jewellry doesn't seem to suit my very pale colouring, however I love yellow gold on the lucky people with a warmer complexion than mine. They are both just as beautiful. However now I'm in love with rose gold! Thinking of a vow renewal... hehe... 😉x

I have platinum matching engagement ring, wedding ring and eternity ring.
They bring me great pleasure, I still like them, after nearly 20 years.
No regrets. At all. Zero.

Ooh-that’s very interesting! How much did that cost and would you share a photo!?

Mine are white gold and I don't have them rhodium plated - if your jeweller is selective enough they should be able to find a shade that doesn't look yellow/ brassy. This is mine held up next to the (thinner) band of a silver ring

I have a white gold wedding ring and looks exactly like it was on my wedding day 20 years ago.
Nothing‘s worn off, the engraved pattern hasn‘t lost any definition.
I wear it constantly, it’s only taken off for operations.

I've got white gold for both wedding and engagement rings. I've often wondered if I could get them plated in platinum instead of rhodium? Has anyone had this done?
