I am 47 and things are changing 😬

I have pale skin and dark hair - moustache never been a problem before but I now have a few thicker, darker hairs appearing. I've resisted the temptation to pluck in case of stubble but wondering what other options there are, that don't involve yanking the things out. Lightening? I've seen Jolene mentioned before - can I use this on my face?

You can get a hair removal cream thing for the face. It stings a bit and you need a lot of moisturiser afterwards but it works.

Boots hair lightening cream is less harsh than Jolene which always stings.

I had mine threaded in Superdrug. It made me a bit pimply for a few days but it worked and regrowth isn't noticeable.

If you are pale skinned and dark haired you are the perfect candidate for buying a Philips Lumea. They really are the dog's bolleaux.

Honestly? Thread/wax it but don't bleach it. It just makes it look more noticeable. My SIL bleaches hers. She still has a tache, it's just that now she has a yellow/orange fuzzy tache. It looks terrible.
I get mine waxed. It's done in seconds. You might experience some redness afterwards but that goes shortly afterwards.

Yes I agree. Bleaching makes it more noticeable, because the bleached hairs tend to catch the sun really well and it just looks wrong and odd.

I use boots hair removal cream, and I pluck the odd really dark hair that starts to grow between treatments.

waxing is good, and lasts longer without regrowth than hair removal does. But I’ve heard that it’s not the best for the long term condition of the skin on the top lip so I gave it up some years ago.

I really need to know more about these dog's bolleaux astrid What do you do about the regrowth between sessions - do you just have to live with it?

I get mine threaded at Superdrug too - it's really cheap and lasts for ages and the hair is much thinner now as I've been doing this for a few years. It's quite uncomfortable but well worth it!

As PP said, don't bleach it. You would be a good candidate for laser hair removal.

I shave my tache and peach fuzz on my face. It's a myth that it grows back thicker and quicker. Your hormone levels and genetics dictate how thick your hair grows and how fast. Takes me 30 secs once a week. Job done.

I use Boots facial hair removing cream. Really easy just put on your face, leave for 5 minutes and wash off. I do this every 2 weeks. It works really well and is very cheap.

Thank you everybody. A few different options to look into. I've seen people having bits of their face threaded and it looked like torture maybe I just need to grow some bolleaux of my own.

I have mine threaded, it's really not so bad. The results are great, it only takes a few minutes and lasts for 3-4 weeks.

Yes egg I just turn up at my local Superdrug, no appointment required.

The problem with lightening facial hair is that you can still see the hair. I have a friend with dark hair and a blonde moustache. When she looks in her mirror she probably can’t see it because of the light but in natural light it really shows. Can you wax?

I wouldn’t use Jolene as you end up with a yellow orange thick moustache. I also wouldn’t risk threading in Superdrug. I am not a wuss (had two babies without any pain relief) but that threading brought tears to my eyes the pain was too much for me.
I opted for waxing which is painful but quicker and less painful than threading. But when you hit 50 odd hairs have become darker and more wirey and some weird ones have started sprouting out on my chin as well. So it’s a question of maintenance for ever more.
If I were you I might try the hair removal cream first. I haven’t tried this but you can do this at home yourself quickly and easily without going to a salon getting an appointment etc.

Another vote for the lumea . Really does work. I used to get mine waxed . Don’t bleach !!!

How does the Lumea compare in terms of pain with waxing and threading?

Threading does indeed make your eyes water for a minute. But I really wouldn't compare it remotely with the pain of childbirth.
