I was told this top was "ageing", is it true?

I was shopping with my friend today and was having a look at the new stuff in Joules, as they ususally do lovely patterns.
I saw this top and immediately loved it (what a gorgeous and delicate pattern!). I said this to my friend...and she immediately said how ageing it would be. Here's the link to the top, in the cream botanicals print www.joules.com/Women/Tops/Harbour-Print/Jersey-Top/Cream-Botanicals?id=Y_HARBOURPRINT%7CCREMBOT

Is my friend right? I'm not ususally affected by stuff like this and wear what I want, but a man recently said I looked much older than I was and now I'm overthinking things. For the record, I'm 20 years old.

Any advice much appreciated 😊

It is a bit frumpy, I'm afraid.

If you like it, buy it!

Personally I'm not keen. I'm 40 and it reminds me of clothes of much older ladies.

Im forty and think I'm too young for it, sorry Blush

It's a pretty top, but if I saw it in a shop I'd think it was far too old for me. I'm 34.

I love it and would wear it - I’m 31

That would look nice on my MIL, but she is 70.

I'd wear it to work. But I'm old enough to be your grandmother. But if you like it buy it, sod everyone else. It is pretty.

it's a nice top, but it's something my mum would like. She's over 60.

I really think it depends on how you wear it, your colouring and shape. I think I would look frumpy in it though.

I find Joules too old, and am 35 and probably look every day of it Their stuff just seems very 'blah' to me.

For me, a top needs to have some 'edge' if flowery (cut/neckline/print) to offset the frilly aspect of it.

Or offset it with a leather skirt or something

It’s a pretty top and worn with super skinny dark jeans and some cute ballet pumps could be a fab outfit. Buy it but be careful what you wear with!

Age 20? You should be wearing boob tubes love!!
Seriously though it's a pretty top but I'm 37 and I find a lot of joules stuff boring, it's a bit middle class middle aged mum isn't it.

However, you should buy whatever clothes you like and feel comfortable in - not what others think you should be wearing at age 20. I wore mainly miniskirts and tight tops age 20 but then I look back at pictures and think I looked like a bit of a slapper!

I'm 49 and would expect someone in their seventies to wear it. It's at best as mumsy as it gets.

I've a 20 year old daughter.and without asking her I know there is no way she'd wear that out in public.

If I did buy it....what COULD I wear it with, to make it look less old, frumpy etc etc ?

Depends how you wear it.
It’s cute.

Yes sorry, I'm 47 and I think the pattern looks a bit 'old lady'. I appreciate the irony btw 😄

Oh dear, when's she said it would be ageing, I thought she only meant 40ish (not that I think that's old, but it's older in the context of my age)...not 70s 😂I really do need a style re think and change my hair etc

I would team it up with a great fitting pair of jeans and blazer type jacket on top and heels (If you wear heels ).

I think all of Joules is a bit frumpy to be honest. I’m 38 and I wouldn’t set foot in there. Blush

At 20 - or any age looking to be fashionable!- I would try ASOS, New look, h and m, topshop, River Island, even cheaper brands like Boohoo, pretty little thing etc. I would go online and have a look at their “new in” sections and see what’s about, then mix and match different things to suit you.

Why are you shopping at Joules if you're 20? I know it's a sweeping generalisation but it's one of the brands I lump together - Joules / Boden / Fat Face / White Stuff that are firmly in the "middle aged mumsy" bracket to be avoided if there's any prospect of looking young(er).

I'm 45!

I gasped when I opened that link. I'm a few decades off wearing anything like that and I'm 41.

I can see that it is a beautiful print though.

At 20 you'll probably get away with it but I'm pushing 50 and wouldn't touch it because it looks like the wearer has given up on fashion (don't like saying too old because e.g. Vivienne Westwood still could wear anything).
