Ugg alternatives

DollyPartonsBeard · 08/12/2017 19:59

I've decided I want some sheepskin boots for Christmas, basic ugg style with proper soles as we have cold hard floors.

Am I right in thinking with Uggs you're paying for the name and cheaper alternatives exist? Would love your suggestions (and also any sizing tips - I'm a standard UK8 but will be buying online)

You have started the exact same thread I was thinking of starting earlier this week, even down to shoe size. I will be watching replies as well!

gold sheepskin from TKMaxx or Fitflops outrageously expensive but better than Uggs.

I had a pair of Emus they lasted for years with heavy wear they have some agt a good price on amazon

If they are only for indoor use, then I find primark copies are fine. Had mine for 4 years now and they still look like new. They cost 6 quid.

DD got some Bear Paw from TKMaxx, they are supersoft inside and have lasted just as well as Uggs. Think Amazon sell them too.

mrspestilence I do like those gold ones very much - do you know what the sizing is like for that brand?

goose I will check out the Emus, thanks - I never thought to look on Amazon.

thenightsky I have a pair of (gold and sequinned!) Primark ones as I write, but fancy some real sheepskin ones as a treat. I wear them from October to April so can justify them as posh slippers (and trips to put the bins out)

I bought Primark boots and some proper sheepskin liners from Celtic Sheepskin!

For me UGGs are worth their money all day long. I’ve just ordered a new pair but the pair I have currently were bought in 2010; they stand the test of time and a comfier boot I could not find. I’m not keen on the standard sole versions though, tend to buy ones with a thicker proper outdoors sole.

Dolly have just tried on DD's pair. Marked as us 9, eu 41, uk 7 They seem quite true to size, a wee bit snug but sheepskin always stretches a bit. They have really durable feeling soles and are a good cut around the heel unlike uggs They have sheepskin on the insoles Smile Don't be tempted by the pink it will look awful as it ages. They also had silver in store. Tempted to get some for MiL (size 9)

Also Emus are good DS had some, he now has some celtic ones. Can you tell we have stone floors Grin

I use them as slippers, so indoor only, I’ve had BearPaw and Lamo, both from TK Maxx about £35 per pair and I managed to get some Costco ‘Kirkland’ (own brand) ones this year, but they’re still in the box waiting until my current ones start falling apart.

Dolly, you need boots from Celtic and Co. I have the fake TKMaxx ones (which I now never wear) and an old pair of Emus that I now use as slippers, but the Celtic ones are so much better. Real sheepskin, very well made, and a huge range of colours and sizes (I'm not a rep, honest!) I got a pair three years ago and I really recommend them. They are tight to begin with but loosen off quite quickly.

Fogot to add the crucial bit that they are only a bit cheaper than Uggs Blush

Just hopping on to say Celtic & Co, all the way. Used to buy UGGs but nowadays I think the quality of C&C is better AND they are made in the UK. Their boots can also be washed in the machine using their special detergent. Also recommend their sheepskin insoles to instantly make any boots toasty warm. And no, I don't work for them either!

Emus. I've just bought my 2nd pair as my 1st pair (10 years old, lots of use) are finally getting tired.

I ordered some from Celtic & Co which arrived this week but I've sent them back as they didn't feel as good quality as the Emus and my heels were lifting up away from the sole of the boots when I tried walking in them

On a related note; those who have Celtic and Co boots have you washed them using the wool wash? Is there any reason Uggs couldn't be washed using it do you think?

I love Celtic and Co but pricewise they are similar. I really rate the slippers I just got from here:

sheepskin.co.uk/shop/boots

They have a seconds page which are cheaper.

I've washed suede uggs. It was fine. I did it after reading back threads on here.

Yes, I've washed my C&C boots and they were fine. On the strength of that, I also washed my Emus and they were also fine. I used C&C's own detergent both times.

I've got the Costco ones, they are in their fourth winter now. I've never worn them outside though, they are my slippers. They look as good as new.

I got the Costco ones and find them warm and comfy.. Though after stepping in a huge puddle in the snow today thinking it was a drain they may not be quite the same..

I’ve just invested in some emu boots after several winters wanting sheepskin boots. Best thing I’ve ever brought, so warm and comfySmile The main reason I got emu over ugg was I found emu made waterproof ones! I got them from QVC as they had a brilliant offer on, hope you find some warm boots!

I have the Costco ones after asking on here - I wear them as slippers but they are fine for going out in the garden, out with the bins etc. They are really comfy and cosy.
