i just bought a few which are quite nice and quite expensive but i still feel like i'm at the hairdressers or just got out of the bath when i wear them. are they naff or nice?

TrollTheRespawnJeremy Wed 29-Nov-17 20:48:25

Very dated.

LostInShoebiz Wed 29-Nov-17 20:59:47

What's a hair claw?

WindyWednesday Wed 29-Nov-17 21:00:21

Really? I wear them all the time.

RunRabbitRunRabbit Wed 29-Nov-17 21:02:41

What's it like and what is your hair like?

babymouse Wed 29-Nov-17 21:02:42

They're damaging, but if you like them who cares? smile

LostInShoebiz Wed 29-Nov-17 21:05:53

If they're plastic combs connected by a spring then I wouldn't be surprised if they were back with a vengeance soon. ASOS was full of scrunchies this summer.

If you like it and it works then go bananas.

YouWereRight Wed 29-Nov-17 21:07:04

They were everywhere when I was around 12ish. And those tiny twisty gems, butterfly clips and chop sticks.

Almahart Wed 29-Nov-17 21:15:08

How else do you put your hair up?

WindyWednesday Thu 30-Nov-17 12:29:38

I still wear scrunchies so I might not be the best guide.

Maudlinmaud Thu 30-Nov-17 12:33:24

I didn't know they ever went out. I just thought they where a handy hair clip. Loving the return of the scrunch

AdalindSchade Thu 30-Nov-17 12:36:17

Do you mean like a double sided clip with a spring in the middle? They are handy but not very stylish. Personally I don't care but if you want to look smart and done they probably aren't the right accessory

BillyDaveysDaughter Thu 30-Nov-17 12:39:22

After seeing a whole wall display of them at M&S one day (about 10 years ago), it struck me that the little grips either side of the spring look like spread labia.

Put me off wearing one on my head forever.

What else can you use to put your hair up then? (For Office wear)

rachelracket Thu 30-Nov-17 14:32:15

so handy. couldn't give af whether they are considered passé or not. although i do just use those basic hairdressers ones that come in packs of 10 so i'm not really trying. my baby thinks they are really fascinating!

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn Thu 30-Nov-17 15:53:39

The 90’s look is back so it doesn’t surprise me that these are a thing again. I don’t think I’ve worn one since the early 2000’s.

Freshprincess Thu 30-Nov-17 16:02:42

I like them for work, but I can't seem to own them for longer than 2 weeks without breaking them.

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv Thu 30-Nov-17 16:05:57

I use them for work as they are easy to put your hair up quickly. They aren’t chic though.

WomblingThree Thu 30-Nov-17 16:34:38

So what do stylish people put their hair up with then?

cleanandtidy Thu 30-Nov-17 16:41:21

They are extremely 80’s.
I think they’re great!
There were so many to choose from in ‘87! grin

CatherineMaitland Thu 30-Nov-17 16:42:48

Yes, how do the fashionable people put their hair up? I would like to know too!

I didn't know scrunchies had gone out of fashion. Oops.

cleanandtidy Thu 30-Nov-17 16:44:11

So what do stylish people put their hair up with then

PNGirl Thu 30-Nov-17 16:45:05

I use a hair bobble/elastic. Pull hair into a ponytail, wrap round itself, secure with hair bobble, pull tendrils out. It looks like this:

Redcrayons Thu 30-Nov-17 21:32:48

I'd be too scared I'd stab myself in the head with the pencil if I tried that.

ohanabanana Thu 30-Nov-17 22:32:57

Does anyone remember a really long double comb type hair clip from 80s? Banana clip perhaps? They’re due a comeback I’m sure
