Are GHDs really worth the extra money??

Dd has very long thick wavy hair that she straightens every morning. Currently has some treseme straighteners. Was wondering about GHDs for Christmas as a couple of friends have said how fabulous they are.

The ones I've seen on Amazon specifically for thick hair are £100 and I'm just wondering if they really are worth the extra money? Are they quicker? Straighter? Please enlighten me!!

No! I got a cheap £20 set when GHDs gave up ghost. Result's the same!

I find they get my hair straighter than cheaper straighteners I've tried. Also mine have lasted over ten years (though had to change the fuse in the plug once) and are still going strong.

Yes! I’ve tried others and they’ve really damaged my hair. Honestly, if you have thick hair there is nothing better.

My hairs quite thick and ghds are the only straighteners i can use.

I've had mine about 4 years but just be careful on Amazon there was a few that were fake. Got mine from the ghd website for same price as Amazon too.

I find Cloud 9's so much better than GHDs. Similar price but more kinder to hair.

I really don't think they are worth it. I have thick frizzy/curly hair and replaced my knackered Remingtons with ghd's. The Remingtons were much better and I hate that the ghd's don't have a temperature control

No, a complete waste of money. They used to be worth the extra but not anymore.

Get yourself/DD a pair of cheaper ones Remington/Babyliss type and spend the money saved on something else gin/wine

She straighteners are amazing. They are cheaper than ghd's and better (according to me and also friends who have used them over the years- they have been going since 2003 so that's a lot of friends ) They also make larger plate ones for thicker hair

Seems like the first wave of buyers did ok but new models are inferior. Much like Hunter wellies from what I read on here. Shame. You need a vintage pair OP.

Dd has the thickest long hair that tangles up just by looking at it. It's curly and is the bane of her life. She's 19. Thenape of her neck becomes matted overnight even with silky pillows.

Recently she spent £160 (now £140) for the steam pro hair straighteners kit from Amazon. The difference is night and day. She did have ghd's before but these are in another league. A little steam pod is filled with water and the steam pumped through the straighteners. They are a godsend and have given her the type of glossy hair on the tv ads that lasts for ages. I had heart failure at the price but a fantastic product that I admit is worth every penny! Very long cable too.

Hairdressers grown when she comes in due to the thickness of her hair, I've had one charge more than quoted saying they'd no idea it was so thick and that it would take so long. And that's after it's been layered!

I have long naturally curly hair, that goes dry and frizzy when it's washed and left to dry naturally. (I've tried every shampoo, conditioner, spray, serum and whatever else out there).
My GHD's are my right arm for hair. I would literally be lost without them. The cheaper ones just aren't as good at all.

Not worth it these days.

They used to be, but the newer ones are pretty crap.

I won't be buying a new set when these are dead. The ones I had years ago were worth every penny. The newer ones aren't worth even half of what they charge.
