Terribly sore dry skin

As the title says. My face is so sore, red. Dry and peeling. Mainly under my eyes, around my nose and to the side of my lips.

It’s really uncomfortable. Most probably related to the environment I work within- chemicals, wet and warm. Plus the added colder weather.

Any ideas how I can calm my irritated skin down?

That's ow my skin reacts if I'm allergic to something. What products are you using on your face?

It’s probably seborrheic dermatitis. See your GP who can prescribe skin washes and creams to help clear it up. Take care.

No change from normal skincare routine. Wash with mild soap and apply Nivea moisturiser.

Although I do have sensitive skin and a few allergies it’s definitely to do with my working conditions Sad

Possibly Molly, however my skin is generally ok. I knew something wasn’t quite ‘right’ at work this week. Now I know I was right!

I can get painful dry skin
At its worse the only thing I can use is hopes relief cream. It's usually found in health food shops or online
And stop using the soap. Use an aqueous cream instead

My lovely DD had 2 dry really sore patches on either side of her mouth.
If she wore make-up it looked cakey and made her self concious.
If she didn't wear make-up she was very aware how red and angry it was. We didn't know why.

Out of despiration I bought her Aveeno cream.

It worked with 24 hours, calmed the red , made it less flakey.
Her skin was bleeding before Sad now its much much better.

Another vote for Aveeno. I have dry skin but also mild to moderate acne 🙁. I am 39.

It really soothes the dry skin and doesn’t seem to block my pores or irritate my acne at all.

My suggestion would be to use a barrier cream before work - I like Dermalex.

I find (I have eczema) that in harsh weather/conditions I need to do the following.

  1. Hyaluronic Acid (the ordinary one is great) to stop dehydration
  2. Moisturiser - I’m loving the ultimate sleep cream from M &S (yes it’s a night cream but I need that for daytime also) to combat dryness
  3. Barrier cream to trap it all in - Dermalex or I’ve also found This Works, In Transit seems to do the same, not quite as effective but much better to put make up on after.

Aveeno
Diprobase or any similar emollient, esp at night when you can pile it on.
Rosehip oil - healing properties.
Marula oil (the Ordinary do both these oils at a v low price).
Scinic All in One Ampoule honey and other good things - use as a sleeping mask.
Hyaluronic Acid (already mentioned) but might sting on raw bits).

Stop washing your face with soap! That’s just going to make it worse at the moment! Get a gentle oil based cleanser. You need to repair your skin barrier.

Look for moisturisers rich in ceramides.

Are there any steps that should be taken by your employer to improve your workplace - doesn’t sound a v healthy place to work if this is happening to your skin!

Oh, I forgot Skin Salvation ointment by Pure Potions is definitely worth trying.

Thanks all, think aveeno may be worth a try. And I will stop using soap.

Unfortunately my employer will do nothing. No it’s not a healthy environment to work in but they still have a duty of care to make it as comfortable with its limitations as possible. They just brush aside things like this and think we are just moaning Hmm if it doesn’t go away or the problem is recurring and they don’t take any measures I will have to talk to the union I suppose!

Have you tried the Elizabeth Arden eight hour skin protectant? it is fantastic. It's more like a balm, quite thick in consistency and it has a rather odd smell - it is brilliant though. My dd gets eczema and a tiny bit for a few days clears it up. It is quite expensive but honestly does work. There is also an excellent lip balm in the same eight hour range. See if you can get a couple of samples.

Time to make a career move and change your job. If it's an unhealthy environment and you're already experiencing problems...

@OhPoop any improvement in your skin?

I found an old tube of hydrocortisone cream and it immediately helped, so definitely an allergic reaction to something!

I'm thinking of using Aveeno day to day as obviously can't always rely on hydrocortisone Sad
