Do you think expensive makeup is worth it?

I was looking at my makeup collection, which is a variety of expensive and drugstore and I was thinking if the expensive products were worth the price tag. I care to the conclusion that for a higher price, quite a lot of things were worth it.

Things I think are worth a higher price:

Primer
Foundation
Concealer
Setting powder
Most eyebrow products
Eyeshadow
Lipstick

I think eyeliner and mascara can be good both drugstore and higher end (remember 17 Tattoo liner?). What do you all think? Or can you find just as good products for everything for a cheaper price. When I say drugstore, I mean Superdrug or Boots (not Lancôme etc in Boots though, more like Revlon).

It's case by case, because oftentimes "better" simply comes down to someone's personal preference for the type of formula they like.

The exception would be anything involving coloured powders (like eyeshadow) as more expensive generally means more pigment.

I think expensive eyeshadow nearly always out performs cheaper alternatives. Mascara drugstore can be fab. Blusher is hit and miss. I've got a brilliant max factor one that I prefer over more expensive ones, but other cheaper ones I've tried don't last the day.

I think there’s no point spending lots on a luxury mascara when there are so many good drugstore ones for under half the price. But anything I want to last on my face ie. blusher/eyebrow/primer/concealer I think it’s worth spending a bit more.

I agree with the mascara comments hence the reason I think eyeliner and mascara can be bought for the same quality at the drugstore.

Foundation is always worth it for me.

I prefer higher end for foundation, powder, blush, eyeshadows and lip stuff (but i do love NYX for lip things too!)

I love Loreal for mascara and maybelline for concealer though. Kiko also has fab products!

My favourite brands are Charlotte Tilbury, bareMinerals, MAC, Loreal and Maybelline probably.

For what it is worth - I used to buy Mac eyeshadows and lipsticks but am happynow with cheaper ones. At the moment I am loving the M&S Autograph eye shadow palette, the Rosie lipstick (and a few others such as Rimmel). In the past I used Lancome and Dior and Chanel foundation but am now using Gosh and Rimmel, Revlon and Maybelline. I find the 'posh' ones are either too pink or far too yellow. I did try the Mac one in a pot but that was meh. I do like Bobbi Brown for her stick make up and her cream blush though. Happy with make up revolution for eye liner and Rimmel/Wilco/Maybelline for mascara.

I didn't, but then I saved up lots of boots points and got some very expensive lipsticks, and it's been a HUGE difference. They go on better, last better, the colours are all gorgeous and flattering - I'm a total convert.

Cheap BB cream / foundation (although pretty much only buy Bourjous) mascara and eyebrow products are fine. I never economise on lipsticks, liners, eyeshadows, highlighters or compact powders.

Oh yeh max factor false lash is excellent, im using loreal paradise which is brilliant! I usually stock up on loreal/maybelline/max factor mascara when boots or superdrug have 3 for 2. Mascara is my thing!!

Eyeshadows; I have a few brands but my favourite and most often used is Estee Lauder. I also use Mac 'Shroom' and that's the only thing I have of that brand.

Mascara - Maybelline is the best for me.

I don't wear lipstick but I wear a gloss - Rimmel 'Timeless Allure', which I have to buy from the US because that colour's not sold here.

Foundation - I'll use anything that doesn't sit on y skin making it look flakey. Estee Lauder (sometimes), BB cream by anybody quite often - and L'Oreal.

Blusher is an M&S one.

Facepowder - Estee Lauder or that photo-finish one, can't remember the brand. I don't use bronzer.

The only two lipsticks I have ever really liked are Estée Lauder and Mac and I replace them when they are used up. Everything else I would try any make. Tbf foundation is worth paying more for I think but I only wear it for an occasional night out.

I am happy with middle of the range. I don't get cheapy no make and rarely super expensive. I tend to stick with the likes of maybelline, L'Oréal, boujour, rimmel etc. Never had any problems 😀

I don't know that I do think high end is worth it as the price difference is just so enormous. My pot of moisturiser at about £3 against something like Clarins for £35. To be fair I haven't ever tried high end foundation but it would have to be wondrous stuff for me to pay more than the current £6 a tubish for my Max factor. I do think that good skin comes mainly from good genes, good diet, no smoking and not much sun bathing.

I bought an Elizabeth Arden blusher about 12 years ago, have worn it almost every day and it's only just run out. Conversely, my friend bought a cheap blusher (£5ish) and it only lasted six months.

I definitely prefer more expensive foundation (Clinique's expensive to me, perhaps mid range to others!) and their mascara is better than the cheaper ones I've tried.

I buy expensive make up and I admit to being seduced by brand names and nice packaging. I’m more invested in make up which is more expensive and i enjoy using it. When I’ve bought cheaper make up, I just don’t feel the same way and so it doesn’t get used.

In saying that, I’ve seen women on my train in the morning doing their make up and they use about 10 products. I probably use about 5, I guess we are probably spending the same amount of money.

I do think some of it is.

The Urban Decay Naked palettes are worth every penny.
I'm a recent convert to Mac lipsticks, which are the most expensive lipsticks I've ever bought and feel much better than the No 7 etc I've used previously.
Benefit stuff is sometimes worth it - I've got a few products I repeat buy from them and they last well and are worth the cost.
Mac Technakohl eyeliners are vastly superior to the cheaper twist up eyeliners I've used before.
Double Wear foundation is three times more expensive than the No 7 stuff I used previously, but is vastly better.
I do quite like the NYX single eyeshadow pots, which are not quite as good as Mac or Urban Decay ones but really not bad for £3.50 each.

I used to only buy the expensive ones but now I find that drugstore foundation, powder, mascara and blusher are just as good (I use bourjois). But primer, concealer, eyeshadow and lipstick I still buy high end.

I don't buy a lot of makeup as I don't use one everyday. But yes, I think -
for foundations at least.

Mascara, lipgloss, eyeliners - just go drugstore.

Probably it's as much about technique as product, but I don't wear foundation (because now I'm old, it's become ageing). Good skincare, a flick of powder and a highlighter plus mascara and lipstick is about as much as my 61 year old face can take without looking like a 1960s crone. A full face is much too much.

My illamasqua eyebrow cake I bought about 3 years ago , use daily and still good as new. It’s like getting the most beautiful pair of eyebrows everytime I use it ! Tried cheap brown pencils and ended up binning them

I always thought L’Oréal liquid liner was as good as high end ( tried Rimmel and maybelline with much good will but ended up binning them ) until I bought Cliniques liquid liner it is so much better

Foundation - I’ve had enough horror stories with drugstores ones and I suspect it is
Due to my difficult skin type - super dry and sensitive ( my sister for example looks great in L’Oréal true match ) so I use Dior

The only drugstore success story I have is with eyeshadow - the sleek palettes are wonderful !
