Can anyone help Dress a clueless Bob?

I have a 30th birthday party coming up soon. I’ll try to give as much detail as possible so as not to drip feed:

It’s my SIL’s birthday.

I’m 40, so older than her friends, my partner and his brothers.

I have lost my way with clothes- I have a casual job where I wear black t-shirt and jeans Monday to Saturday without fail and then I’m so knackered at weekends it’s some sort of leisure wear affair in the house doing chores or the ubiquitous ‘naice top’ and skinny jeans with heels if I do leave the house!

I really, really want to make an effort. For me. I used to, and I used to really love doing so. I just don’t know what ‘me’ is anymore!

If anyone can help, I would be so grateful! I am open to any and all suggestions, I have not been to an actual shop for so long that I have no set idea of what I would like to wear.

I am 5 ft 9”, Size 12 (10 if I’m lucky, but I’m usually not lucky!), I think my legs are okay. I don’t like my stomach but I can Spanx for that. I also need shoes and am shit with accessories. Definitely happy to wear heels, usually prefer silver over gold for accessories but that’s not set in stone.

Oh, and I have massive red curly hair down to my bra strap, if that makes any difference to suggestions? (I don’t know if it does- see, told you I was useless! 🤣)

You sound gorgeous!!
If you’re at home in black this could be good, wouldn’t need much in the way of accessories
This has more colour and again wouldn’t need much in the way of jewellery to go with;color:Green__70
Go for a pair of silver shoes and a plain black clutch (both go with everything). Something like...
Have fun x

Nothing original to add but I love that Whistles dress - I think it would look very chic!

There is a Christmas party dress thread in style and beauty at the moment with some fabulous ideas for dresses too.

Have a fab time!

Ooh I love the description of your massive red curly hair.... sorry that’s not very helpful on the outfit front is it.

Elledorado Sun 05-Nov-17 07:16:30

Confusing that it's described as a "midi" dress though zippy!!

zippyswife Sun 05-Nov-17 07:52:01

Yep- if that’s a midi i reckon the mini would show yer buttconfused

This is fab o but you would need to down size a good bit
There is s similar one in green which would be stunning with your red hair

Oooh thanks guys! Off to check out the links now! (I’m really not gorgeous and I can take no credit for the hair- it just does it’s own damn thing! 🤣)
