Hi,

Can anyone recommend a nail varnish brand please? I'm a complete newbie to nail varnish and would like something gorgeous that is really easy to apply, and looks great to of course.

Thanks!

Essie gel couture, my current favourite. Sporting ‘Surrounded by Studs’ at the moment!

@CountessofGrantham ooh that is a gorgeous colour! Do you use a top coat as well?

I love Barry M..I've tried many more expensive ones but haven't found any as good for colour range, application and not chipping. Their colours are amazing and only about four or five pounds.

I'm the kind of person who when it comes to clothes and cosmetics uses a mixture of high end and cheap as chips depending on things I have found to work for me - I'm devoted to Rimmel 60 second dry varnishes but finish them with a Revlon quick dry topcoat. with care I can have perfect nails for 6 days (I like a day of no varnish - just have a crazy idea nails need to rest and breathe!!) I choose a new colour every week but the quick dry formula means I'm done in 5 minutes.

Pete yes I use the gel top coat that goes with it but at the moment I’m using another Essie one, As Gold as it Gets so it’s navy with flecks of gold on. I love it!

I like Chanel for their colours, even though they often chip after a few days (with top coat, sigh). Am also a fan of Rimmel, Barry M and Hema polishes.

Essie and Rimmel for me. I don't share the Barry M love though, I think they are poorly pigmented, thin brushes, chip really easily.

I love A England. An indie brand; amazing colours and really long lasting

I use orly professionally (beauty therapist) but love rimmel 60 second for personal use. Dries so quick and lasts well.

Barry m. Used to be Chanel but will never go back to paying those prices for something that chips within days whereas cheap as chips Barry M lasts and lasts.

Barry M gel range with Seche Vite top coat (from eBay).

The Sally Hanson brush is ace.
I use Rimmel 60 second one also. So quick.
I don't bother with top coat or undercoat. I just take it off the next day.

Barry M and Avon are my favourites for colour and long lasting. Also love a glitter top coat.

The Rimmel double brushes are great for my cack-handed apppixation skills.

Otherwise, I wear Essie and Orly (whose breathable colour is the best for toes). I use a maybelline gel finish top coat.
