Mine is super early this year, I got a great one last year from this board. Personally I prefer sleeves (not a fan of my arms)
Seen anything good?

I was just about to post the same question. I've seen some gorgeous and insane shoes at Rogue Matilda so suspect I'll have to build my outfit up from the shoes. I bought a gorgeous silk kimono dress in the Jigsaw sale in the summer that I could wear but it's more nice meal out than dance the night away so I'm considering getting something new (lost weight this year so old dresses are too big).

Oh fab shoes. I love shoes- they can make a run of the mill outfit feel amazing. Can’t do mules though (even though I’m a heel addict) need a strap.
Funnily enough I saw a nice kimono on asos but because my bottom half is bigger than top, I find that they can gape.

I bought my Christmas party dress today and I am in love with it! The picture doesn’t do it justice!

It’s Monsoon which is usual for me (Coast is my usual party dress go to).

Plus got it in the Debenhams 20% off event!

I ordered a little red dress! Lost 3 stone in the last 16 months and it’s been years since I wore anything ‘little’!! Should be here Wednesday....

Yes! I have a fab little number from that friend of the over forties, Phase Eight.

It makes my figure look like her off Mad Men and I got it at the outlet!

Also my amazing Clarks platform sandals will happily do another year, every year until I die basically so that's sorted.

I always get new big pants and control tights, both already bought now and ready to go.

And I've even started wearing make-up and have my travel sized perfume in standby! Decadence by Marc Jacobs, the sexist scent ever.

Dancing queen that's stunning.

Sexiest, although no doubt it's sexist too, let's ignore any subtext.

I have my first Xmas do in years having returned to work this year and no idea what to wear. Only a meal in local hotel, so not too posh and nothing afterwards. No jeans though. Wondered about a dress as it's easier but I'm a size 14/16 with lumps and bumps. Like that monsoon dress, and definitely of the phase eight age!

@SmileAndNod I’m a 14/16, and honestly it looked amazing!

I was wearing tights when I tried it on and although I’ll probs wear mine with bear legs, it did look nice with tights too.

I love the look of this Ted Baker dress but will have to wear it to every Christmas party for the next 10 years to justify the cost. Going into town to try it on today and hoping it looks shite. I also like the look of this green one from Monsoon but suspect it won't fit well because I'm short.

Tried on my old French Connection dress but it's too sizes too big now and is hanging off me. Still love it though and it's burgundy so would have been v. fashionable for this year. Sigh. I should put it to the charity shop so someone else can appreciate it.

God - we've got an 80's night to look forward to. Would welcome ideas which don't include lycra

Probably could start a dress swap service with the dresses of Christmas and sizes Past 😊

@CountFosco have a look on eBay, I’ve seen a few current season TB dresses on there (brand new) for a lot less (not sure how).

I got this dress as it’s the first weekend in December. Going to use different accessories and use it 4 weeks later for my niece’s wedding x

I’m very much in need of a party frock - basic sparkly cocktail number. I felt a bit underdressed last year and unless I Shred and diet like a mad thing for the next month my go to Anglomania sale frock is going to be too tight Sad and I’m sick to death of my Damsel In A Dress sage silk frock.

What do you think of www.marksandspencer.com/sparkly-long-sleeve-shift-dress/p/p60119824?image=SD_01_T42_8026_CB_X_EC_90&color=COBALT&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect&mcptredirect this from M&S?

I'm going for velvet only I've not seen any I like in the shops yet, just shiny velour, so it's the back of the cupboard for me.

I may wear last year's outfit again: velvet wide leg flares from Next 20-odd years ago. They felt a bit 'out there' last year (not something I ever expected to say about Next!) but they look more mainstream now. With either a silk shirt or a sparkly knit and silver-grey brogues.

Or a very fitted, dark blue velvet blazer from a weigh n' pay with narrow leg trousers.

Or a Boden velvet burgundy pencil skirt from yesteryears which I had altered to give it a bit more badass. Not sure what I'd wear with it though as I usually dress pencil skirts down.

Loads of different looks from the 80s. Google image New Romantics or Madonna in 'Desperately Seeking Susan' or Annie Lennox in her androgynous era, or Grace Jones fabulousness, or Dynasty kitsch fabulousness, or anything Meg Ryan wore in 'When Harry Met Sally', or Robert Smith being Robert Smith. Or a Princess Diana party dress, big and pouffy that crackled when you moved.

Bugger. I like Euphemia’s purple Dorothy Perkins one. Sad

Yep. I got a lovely Navy lace dress from Dorothy Perkins in the sale.
Very pleased with it. Now I just need shoes.

I've got zero Christmas parties this year as I quit work and I'm pregnant (wont be by december though) and I've finished uni. DH's work don't have a party for their OH just them meeting up after they finish for the half day at school.
It feels weird. Can I buy an outfit anyway just because?

VoodooCat · 04/11/2017 12:57

It actually looks better in real life!
If anyone has any suggestions as to what shoes would go with it, I'd be grateful. Budget up to £50.
