Christmas Day outfits

I hope this isn't too early!

Has anyone started planning their Christmas Day outfit yet?

I'll be going to my very glamorous/trendy in laws (the whole extended family will be there and they are beautiful and always impeccably dressed!).

I'm hoping to have finally shifted my baby weight and the extra half a stone I already had. Would love to look fabulous! On a practical note, will be chasing around after my one year old, helping out in the kitchen, and MIL's house is always boiling.

Please inspire me!

Last year I bought a green Ralph Lauren dress in the house of fraser sale. I think it was about £99 so more than I would usually spend but I had two school mum night outs and xmas and boxing day.

It is similar to this but without the frill neckline.

I have to say it is the most flattering thing I have ever worn. I like dresses with ruching (is it rouching?) but it just sit across my stomach so nicely as to make it look non-existent (I am a short size 10 so while my stomach isn't massive it isn't flat either).

I am tempted to wear it again, I don't mind if people have seen me in it before, it is more flattering than anything else I have.

Or I'm tempted to look at other Ralph Lauren dresses, it's not a brand I had ever worn before. I am very much a dress person (lazy and like just putting on one thing) and so previously have worn simple dresses from Monsoon or boden or jumper dresses.

I am looking forward to seeing what other people are wearing.

Maybe it was more like this. It has a weight so that the neckline sits nicely.

I don't work for Ralph Lauren honestly!

Pyjamas for both DS and myself, except when we both (reluctantly) get dressed for the visit of ex and his (lovely) wife.

(Even though I like his wife immensely, and enjoy having her visit, the shreds of pride I have left do not allow me to entertain her in my PJs!)

My look will need to be layered as we are in and out of the house and kitchen, and up and down stairs with food etc. So Christmas jumper but not tooooo Christmas jumper. Ideally a Christmas cardigan. With some nice cut trousers. I haven't actually seen them yet, but I will know when I do.

I am having a baby on 12 December (ELCS) so I guess something very very soft with easy boob access

There's a lot to ask of a Christmas Day outfit, not least that it needs to be accommodating while eating a big dinner.

The main issue I find is it gets absolutely boiling! Fire is lit. Heat on. Cooker hob. Two ovens. I’m usually sweating like a pig!

I go for jeans and a sparkly shirt.

It's always christmas jumpers all the way for us! Plus soft stretchy jeggings or similar for the inevitable food baby Grin

Last year I got a lovely sequinned skirt for about a pound off eBay- I wore it with a plain black fine knit top and opaque black tights and simple silver jewellery. It looked great (and I NEVER think I look great!) simple but more than jeans. I plan to wear the same this year (if I can fit into it). I will wear the skirt with a black tee and blazer for a Christmas night out too.

Yes, already planned. A black sequined pencil skirt that sits just below the knee. A charcoal v-neck cashmere sweater. Black tights. Dark red, patent ankle boots with a kitten heel. And a Swarovski crystal cuff.

Skinny Jeans or leggings with a Christmas t shirt. I’ll have an oversized Christmas jumper too but it gets so hot with all the people and cooking so I can never wear it all day.
Would love some Christmas t shirt inspiration if anyone should find some

TheOtherGirl - WOW, I think your outfit sounds absolutely FAB. Can I be cheeky and ask where you got all those separate bits from? I won't steal your entire outfit (I promise!) but I'd love to have a sparkly black pencil skirt and I love wearing pencil skirts with cashmere sweaters...

Last year I wore something a little bit similar to what PPs have mentioned - a gold sequinned skirt, with a black velvet sweatshirt, and black opaque tights. My skirt was a-line, above the knee, and I wore black leather Stan Smiths, and a long faux fur coat for travelling to the in-laws. I really liked that outfit. This year maybe my black leather skirt with a sparkly jumper.

Every year I buy myself a sequin mini skirt for christmas day. I wear it with fine Uniqlo cashmere, opaques and ballet flats. MIL insisted I looked like a christmas tree in last year's one (it was emerald green). I love that sort of outfit generally though, so know it suits me.

Hush Ivy dress with black tights and an amazing necklace (which I am yet to find!). Plenty of room for the gazillions of calories I shall be consuming.

I'm wearing a sequin knot dress/jumper, over thick tights, I bought it last year in the sales especially. It's this one but in black with silver sequins, I wanted this one (below) but it had sold out!

Jessi thank you. My skirt was from Monsoon but it's a few years old. Cashmere jumper was a bargin from TK Maxx only £24.99! Boots were from Kookai I think?

My Christmas outfit is likely to be a Christmas minions t-shirt and shorts. That's only if it's not too hot though, otherwise it'll be a spaghetti strap light cotton dress.
No point in dressing up when the temp goes above 30 degrees!

It's not like I need to impress anyone anyway - it's just us and MIL. Grin

There is just the 4 of us this year, DH, me, and two adult student children. (Can't wait to see them. DD facetimes for a few minutes most days, or sends me funny gifs etc, but DS disappears into a black hole in October and re-emerges on 23 Dec). Anyway, in my alternative fancy life I will be wearing a Hush marina skirt with a sparkly top. In reality, I may change into clean PJs (I'm not a complete slob!) and wear them all day apart from a walk enforced by the dog.

I'm going to treat myself and buy something from britishretro.co.uk
All of their clothes are '50's inspired and they have some beautiful prints too.

I'm currently undecided if just the dress is enough or if I should go the whole hog and get a petticoat too
