Thought I looked good going to casual do today. Had husband take photo and 😭💩 !! I'm overweight quite noticeably, my legs belong to a diplodocus!!! This has happened before, thought I looked ok not thin but at least with a shape, then seen photos👎 does anyone else feel like this? 😖

I always picture myself slimmer than I am. I get an awful shock when my photo is taken. In my head, I'm a size 10. Actually a size 16.

Yes, I'm the same! I think it's a good thing really. It must mean we have high self esteem?

My SIL always says when she sees a picture that includes her that some fat bitch has come in and taken her place!

I like your t-shirt. I think you look fine.

OP you’re not ‘slim’ but you’re not diplodocus either. For what it’s worth, I don’t think those boots would look flattering on anyone. The problem is with the boots and you’re not exactly wearing something that will give you a wow! shape are you? Don’t be so hard on yourself.

U was expecting a picture of an enormous lady with trunks for legs! But instead I see you! Definitely not huge!
I blame the boots! Mine make my legs grow!

You look like you've got quite a slim waist - are you an hourglass/pear type shape? I think PPs might be right about the boots being the biggest problem in the pic. Flowers

I think you look fab but yes I'm sure I also have inverse body dysmorphia. I always think I look alright but pictures always always prove otherwise!

Yep, me too. I’m an ample size 16 in the mind of a size 12. It upsets me greatly when I’m faced with the reality.

This is where the likes of What Not to Wear come to the fore.

The boots might be comfy, but they do nothing to 'slim' your legs and just make them look like tree trunks.

You don't look like a Diplodocus, you're thinner than me. Envy

Ok your not tiny but your hardly massive! I’d say you look more average tbh than overweight.

No matter what size I have been in the past the tops of my legs have always been big! No amount of exercise etc changes this for me. I find heels help my legs to look smaller, I don’t think the boots you are wearing flatter anyone

I reckon if you were wearing a more fitted top, you’d have a nice waist

Thanks for your replies everyone, and for the kindness Cake. Interesting that quite a few have remarked on the boots, they were quite posh ones I got as a 40th bday present. I really like them but agree not the most flattering on me. Have to make do at the moment tho as I can't afford any other boots! But, Christmas is coming !! 🎅🎁

You look slim to me.. I'd love to have a figure like that.

But...please for the love of all that is good in this world, get rid of those boots.

That's a t shirt that I would have to avoid if I went shopping, I have to have something that pulls in at the waist and then ideally has some structure over the tummy in order to suit me. I like the design but it's hanging over your bust and cutting out your waist I think, rather than highlighting it? My top requirements means I end up wearing more "formal" tops than necessary but that's the only way I can show off my waist without also having a lumpy looking tummy.

Violletta · 29/10/2017 17:22

what you are wearing is not flattering, which is why you feel fat - your teeshirt is loose and flappy, if you had something on more structured you would look better. Those boots..... nope - not a good look unless you are going for total comfort

your stomach doesnt look huge, but your teeshirt tucked in like it is makes your thighs look big

I don't think you're massive or anything, maybe a bit chubby but the clothes are totally unflattering and I bet you could look quite slim if you changed them.

That outfit looks so comfy though, I must say!

You’re just like me. In my mind I’m still 18 and 9 stone. In fact I’m 44 and 11 stone. How much do you weigh op if you don’t mind me asking.. and how tall are you? Im 5’6 and I think we are exactly the same shape.

The boots have betrayed you

I think a lot of it is the outfit tbh. I can't think of any kind of 'do' that it would be appropriate for.

Leggings are not trousers.

Those boots need to go on the nearest bonfire.

The t-shirt is totally shapeless and the tucked in front adds to the problem.

You look around a size 16 to me so average for the UK but an outfit more suited to your body shape would probably drop that by one dress size at least.

Muddlingalongalone · 29/10/2017 17:33

Yy to this. I definitely don't feel as big as or see myself in the mirror as big as I am.
Every so often I catch a reflection of myself in reality and think I must lose weight.

littlebird7 · 29/10/2017 17:33

Change your boots to keen heels and flattering, take a photo and repost. If ever there was a way to instantly look so much slimmer that is it.
Clumpy boots are not for anyone over the age of 16

The I think your size is fine but the clothes just do not do any favours at all. I mean, I know you said a casual do but sometimes there can be "too casual".

Report
littlebird7 · 29/10/2017 17:38

Also we are conditioned to think we must look slimmer to be attractive, that being skinny is the norm.
Actually if you have had children or over 35 this is biologically impossible without starvation, over exercise or both. Most females tend to increase their weight and width as they get older, as do men. Acceptance and loving our bodies as they are is probably the way forward of only we could get there
