Now i am divorced it seems such a shame it is sitting in a drawer.

so it is tiffany solitaire - oval diamond 1.6 carrot.

I also have a pair of earrings both with round diamonds totaling about same.

thinking a eternity style? or boodles waterfall style?

would like to wear it every day as an every day ring.

BTW I bought my own engagement ring (I know the signs were all there so don't care about wearing it no emotional ties)

TIA

The tiffany solitaire is lovely as it it (I have similar but not as big)
What about adding the halo around it ) can that be done?

donners312 · 28/10/2017 22:24

whats a halo?

It is gorgeous but i always think a solitaire looks like an engagement ring and i don't like it when divorced people wear wedding/engagement rings on their right hand (not saying anything wrong with it just i don't want to)

so looking for something more everyday wear that doesn't scream "i'm divorced!!!!!"

I get you. This is the halo but maybe it is still too bridal

Boodles waterfall is gorgeous. But would it work with the large carat stone? Much less engagementy than a halo. If you google 3 stone dress rings you’ll get loads of ideas.

thank you - yes that is gorgeous!!

Could you get the stone set sort of flat on to a fairly chunky band? I've seen one which is a gold and platinum band with a diamond on it. Doesn't look engagement like but makes a statement.

Bit like this

I would put a double halo round it, with sapphire in the first halo, then diamond, it’ll look like a stunning dress ring then

I like that northern lurker and very wearable.

I do also have a gorgeous sapphire ticking the box but its emerald cut and i love it as it is. Do you mean a round sapphire and diamond together? I love saphires!!

Could you put all three stones in a line and then sandwich it with two slim diamond bands.
Will try and attach mine from Boodles, very versatile.

Trying to say a mix of stone sizes in the central band do work well but perhaps your solitaire is too big.

Or go rose gold with ruby halo....

I'd do a three stone using the three you have.

They give a good coverage of the finger, if you line the idea of an eternity.
Especially given the size of your stones, it'd be similar to that of an eternity, and a lot of buyers find them very versatile.

That way you would also only have to pay for metal and work.

I say three stone because I'm really not sure how you'd use your oval stone in an eternity.

A) Your jeweller would have to match your stone all around. Therefore they'll have to source 7 or so more (depending on the spread you'd like) 1.6ish carat, D-F colour, VS clarity oval diamonds.

That's quite a task. It would be a long process for them and costly for you.

B) Your stone is very big to be replicated around an eternity. The largest I've known so far has had each stone 0.5ct, and that sold for £20,000, to give you some perspective. An eternity with 1.6ct stones would look quite bizarre.

C) How would you lay the ovals? End to end or vertically?

You could use all three and do oval, round, oval round I suppose.
But still, I honestly think judging by the size of them, you'd only need the three of them in a ring and you've covered half your finger.

Any further than halfway / two thirds is rarely worth doing because the ring is then difficult or sometimes impossible to resize.

I'd do three stone.

Setting - whatever you wish! I'm sure your jeweller will have some stock settings, or help you decide on something bespoke. Google images are handy for that.

Enjoy!

Stay that's a gorgeous ring. But not possible to replicate with a 1.6ct stone! It certainly wouldn't look as delicate as yours!

'D' P (a jeweller/auctioneer) said don't change them, you'll devalue them Confused

Thank you so much for your help really appreciate it!!

Stay - your ring is gorgeous and I already have the band rings i could use which were wedding rings (delicate bands which i really love) so could work.

Just put -thanks for that advise wonder if i could just make rings from the earrings i need to get them out and look at the stones i think and gauge sizes.

redd- thanks for that advise as well i was wondering that'd could just keep them as is and give to my DD in a few years but i feel i should wear them now in a way??

stay - is that a one tier waterfall> plus two diamond rings?

I could differs do that and it looks lovely!!

But it wouldn't be my engagement ring but i do think it is more my style maybe that eternity style i was thinking?? MMMMMMM

It is Smile but as @JustPutSomeGlitterOnIt pointed out your stone would be far too big to work. What a lovely problem!
Have you considered asking Tiffany if they would allow you to trade in for a different piece?
DD has a white gold/diamond Tiffany T ring that she managed to rip open on a bucking bronco last week. Sigh.
Tiffany are repairing and re coating at very reasonable cost.
I would take it in to where you purchased for advice, their workshop may recommend a cost effective tweak.

I'm a jeweller too and would argue that there's no devaluing in a remodel because the stones/metal are still going to be worth the same.

I'd add another couple of diamonds to the mix- maybe a square cut and a round- or you could go with coloured stones too. Birthstones are always popular.

I'd make it into a mock stacking ring so that it doesn't have any movement but have 3 rubover set 'irregularly' spaced.

Cost would depend on the stones that you use- if I happened to have a couple of quirky stones sitting around that the customer liked then that would be cheaper than having to cut one.

But yeah- get something you like. What's the point in passing a ring to your DD when even you don't like it? That said- don't pay over the odds for the work.

I too think it would devalue it by doing anything to the Tiffany ring. This is a name jeweller and has a value because it’s Tiffany. I would leave it be and enjoy it as a classic Tiffany diamond ring. Two decent sized earrings are worth more as they are too. Adding smaller stones costs a fortune as does remodelling and you will lose money. Hand the ring to your DD if you don’t like it. Hopefully she has taste!

But does it matter if it is devalued? Second hand engagement rings depreciate the moment you buy them (yes, even from Tiffany's). Have it made into something you'll wear for decades, that's where the real value it.

Doesn't sound as if you need to sell it, but if you did, it wouldn't be worth it unless you were incredibly desperate. Might as well have something gorgeous to enjoy.

How about getting two other solitaire rings and wearing them together as a stack? You could get a round one in one colour stone, and a square cut in another? Could look really good and not at all bridal without devaluing your diamond.

JustPutSomeGlitterOnIt · 30/10/2017 11:59

Stay your daughter 😂!

Troll's mock stacking idea sounds good, and similar to the organic style you're looking at? You could use all three placed randomly on three different bands?

I agree that devaluing wouldn't really be a concern unless they were bought predominantly as an investment. More important to enjoy your jewellery I think.

Can you sell them & use the ££ to buy something totally new? Maybe from auction?
