Is my face eating my make up?

CathysGhost · 27/10/2017 20:54

Why does my make up disappear by lunchtime? I use foundation and powder and that expensive 'up all night' setting spray but it just seems to absorb straight into my skin. By the end of the working day I look like I've just woken up. Where am I going wrong?

Do you use a primer?

Game changer for me.

I sometimes use a smash box primer or a benefit one but it never seems to make a difference. I just apply a fine layer before my foundation? Am I doing this right?

Are you touching your face? It all goes on your hands.

Are you unconciously always touching your face maybe?

I don't think so. I'm a teacher. I don't think I have time to touch my face! Smile

Is your skin oily or dry? I don't wear foundation but I imagine if your skin is dry it will soak up the moisture from any makeup, and if your skin is oily it will slide off perhaps?

Mac or urban decay primers are amazing..expensive but they last as you don’t need much! I have noticed a huge difference. I also invest in Mac foundation again expensive but I use 1 and a half pumps and it lasts me ages compared to others I have got for cheaper. I have the UD spray I found it cakes so definitely prefer primer x

The only foundation that lasts the day for me is Estée Lauder double wear. It is heavy though and it took me a while to get used to it but it looks the same at 8pm as it did at 8am. Huge range of couloirs and they’ll give you a decent sized sample bottle to try.

Colours not couloirs!

How long do you leave between moisturising and applying foundation.

I was told to wait at least 10 minutes.

Have you tried a setting spray? I love the urban decay one

My friend has skin like this. We were at a spa once and we both applied a thick layer of face mask. Hers simply vanished into her skin within minutes. Turns out her skin was extremely dry and was grabbing moisture from anything. Is your skin dry?

Thanks all! I've hesrd good things about double wear so I'm going to give that a go. And a good primer. My skin isn't dry, but I am going to up my water intake. Aging is an expensive business!

What foundation are you currently using?

Depends on various factors such as your skin type, your moisturiser, what you apply it with. How exactly is it disappearing, fading in certain areas, all over, becoming patchy etc?

EL Double Wear is a great foundation & extremely popular but there are other options out there, especially as it’s matte & v full coverage and you’re using it for day to day life and not clubbing/taking photos. It also isn’t the best foundation for drier skin for those reasons as matte&full coverage can cling to dry patches unflatteringly.

My skin did this with every makeup until I discovered Mac ProLongwear. It's not as visibly heavy as EL double wear but has brilliant coverage and would stay on through the day and night no problems...and even through a spinning class!

My face has always done this.
I've tried so many different primers and foundations but my face is a sponge

I'm using NYX matt HD one mostly. I also have bourjois healthy mix serum. Although, thinking about the last one being a serum Base that's why it's sliding off.....?

The serum one slid straight off me, which was a shame as I otherwise quite liked it. I have combination skin and have found that water based foundation stays best.

I don't think NYX is a very good quality to be honest, maybe try a different brand? I've found maybelline rubbish on my skin but bourjois seems to work really well on my skin. I haven't thought NYX is very good in the past.

A good moisturiser at night and in the morning will work wonders. Was recommended to me as I has the same disappearing make up.

You need a long-wearing foundation, not just a primer. There are lots of great ones around - I quite like Diorskin Forever.

I had this problem. That or it soaked in and looked patchy round eyebrows etc.

Now I use st ives apricot scrub every night and a heavy night cream.

No7 beautifully matte foundation and it lasts all day now. No powders no obviously caked in make up look. I love it.

Tried double wear and felt like I had a mask on 😬

On a recommendation (from here in fact), I have just tried the longlasting foundation from primark of all places. It's worked really well on me and is a very cheap mistake if it doesn't work on you... It's water based and has a good range of colours and is reeaally cheap.
