Talk to me about make up.

I tend to go through stages of wearing make up and then not wearing any for ages. I’m pretty shit at it as I’m basically quite lazy, and try and do it quickly so I don’t look brilliant and that doesn’t motivate me to do it again. I also don’t really know what I’m doing...

So I’m thinking of going to a make up counter and then getting them to do my make up and tell me what to buy and then do it that way. That’s okay, right? I’m happy saying no and not getting swayed into buying the store but I do need some help!

Where should I go? I’m in Birmingham so have pretty much free range of anywhere. Any suggestions?

The counters in Selfridges are great, Mac and Bobbi Brown especially but both require you to pre-book and pay (I think they give you the money back towards their products though). Mac are great but fairly heavy-handed with the eye makeup, whereas BB tend to be incredible at lighter, daytime looks. John Lewis in Touchwood also has a few great counters, especially the Chanel, and the women there are amazing.

Most makeup counters are crowded on weekends, though, so you'll probably get more time and attention during the week.

Great, thank you. I’ve got time today so I’ll see if they’ve got any space. I think I’ll aim for BB as there is one in JL too and one is bound to have space
